In this episode I learn to solve the Pyraminx. A pyramid shaped version of the Rubik's cube. I try to do so entirely intuitively; that is no algorithms or guides. How long will it take me to learn?

Intuitively solving a twisty puzzle is an amazing feeling. Even just watching someone else do it is nice. I recently solved the clover cube plus intuitively and I can safely say that those were some of the most fun hours of my life. Every time I solve it I'm reminded of how great it was the first time. I recommend solving something intuitively to any cuber looking for a reason to smile.
I've learned the 2x2 and 3x3. I'm working on the 4x4 (using the ideas in Mike's "How to Learn" Skillshare class), but I love the Pyraminx. It's so fun to play with. I almost figured it out on my own, looked up one thing then worked out how to solve it all. Not sure I'm "solving it as one" but I am solving it.
âIt needs to be solved...as oneâ I love the dramaticness

i personally think the pyraminx is the easiest "cube" ever. i learned it in the first hour without any tutorials or anything/anyone helping me :). my pb is also 32 seconds. but good job Mike, never fail to amaze
If you put in the time to learn 5 algorithms for last layer, you can get sub 20 if you try, good luck!
Have you ever tried the 1x3x3?
3x3x1 is easier
I love the pyraminx. It's the first puzzle I solved without an algorithm. Only took 15 minutes! I moved things around and found a way to solve it that works every time. It's a really interesting puzzle
Mike youâre actually a legend. Donât think people understand the commitment and patience it takes to learn something new - props to you đđœđđœâ€ïžâ€ïž

The pyraminx will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I was about 12 I was fascinated by solving this and I didnât really know the internet properly. I spent about 10 hours in total probably as a 12 year old learning to solve and creating my own method all by myself and have always been proud of my self to this day
The great part about cubes is that one you learn the 3x3, it is significantly east to recognize the same pattern for solving (middle, edges, corners)
When i was at school. I learnt to solve the corners first after getting one side complete, then 2 algorithms to move the edges around. Sadly i only remember one of those now so it takes much longer. I have someone's 5x5 to solve now, so i have to learn a different , more stsndard, way to solve that cos my methods won't work. Ho hum.
That laughter after he finally solved it was pure happiness
"U r a genius if u solve anything with intuition" we cubers know this but to the rest of the world " u r a genius if u can just solve any puzzle no matter with algs".
Btw 40 mins that's dope man !!!!!!
Its so easy it takes like 10 mind to learn
When my friend showed me his Pyramix, I decided to have a crack at it tutorial-less. And within a couple minutes I had solved it! I then got one from him for my birthday, and without tutorials I figured out a working algorithm that's solved it flawlessly every time!
I got jitters when I saw that huge box in the beginning haha. That would have made any average cuber's dream đđ
The Cubes shown at the start of the video are epic!

3:35 The funny thing is, you can actually INTUITIVELY invent algorithms. If you repeat certain movements, for example, (R L' R L') (R' L R' L), randomly reversing them, inverting them, ect, you can eventually get to a point where you may start to understand what you might have to do.
It's mainly guesswork really, but it does rely on intuition. And it is super satisfying once you do figure out an algorithm!
edit: and that's not all. But my comment would be lengthy otherwise. You can reply with other "DIY algorithm tips" though if this gets any attention.
You know, Mike just popped in my recommendations one day, and Iâve never regretted subbing. This guy... just what a fucking legend đ

The Ivy cube, 0:26, is one of the easiest twisty puzzles to solve in my opinion, I learned it after the Pyraminx without a tutorial. I'm no amazing cuber, but I think it's a great way to get started.
The pyraminx is probably my favorite twisty puzzle out of the ones I own. It's just really fun to solve, nice and easy to learn if you're starting and just really fun overall.
Same. I spent hours teaching myself show to solve itâs so satisfying
Next video: i will try to solve a rubik's cube one handed
Yeah that 2 piece twist tortured me too when I learnt the pyraminx without a tutorial
Nice! The pyraminx was the first puzzle I ever solved without looking up how, its very satisfying how much easier it is to solve intuitively vs a regular rubiks cube.
0:03 Every cuber's dream
I liked it more when he used to prove that he actually learned it and didn't just stop the timer when he first solves it (cause that can be partly or fully luck). I'm not saying that he didn't actually learn how to solve them, I just feel like having that confirmation and then explaining how it works adds a much more satisfying end to the video.
The fact that i got a pyramix for christmas 3 years ago and didnt solve it but you solved one in 43 minutes lowers my self confidence
For my birthday, my best friend got me a Pyraminx. I had no clues on how to solve it and while he was playing games I was busy twisting it on the couch trying to figure out how it turned. I spent some time trying to create my own algorithms from scratch. After over 1/2 an hour I had created my own algorithms and I learnt how to solve it intuitively. The only reason I didn't look online, was because I didn't bring my laptop to my friends house, so I really didn't have an option.

Your content is so cool! You are living my dream, I love learning new skills, and it's inspiring to see you accomplish so much!
I learned to solve one of these while bored on deployment. Took me about the same amount of time. Right at the end there I could see you'd got it, you just hadn't realized it yet. I love that moment from the outside looking in. Must feel great.
Hey, I am one of the best pyraminx solvers in the world and I would like to tell you that we solve the pyraminx intuitively by 1 looking (memorising the whole puzzle at once and solving without thinking twice) and because of the way we apply our intuition we avoid the 2 flip (when 2 pices are flipped) like in your case. For most of what you got it will be easier to use a tutorial so you can at least solve the thing.
Sincerely, Aayush:)

Being a cuber, I am genuinely proud of you that you have spelled the spelling of the pyraminx correct!
Being a pyramid, I genuinely don't see how you could misspell 'pyraminx'.
Intuition was the same way I solved when I first got mine it was so satisfying. Awesome job Mike. Keep it up.
Wow Mike! When I learned how to solve the 3x3, a month later I moved onto the pyraminx. I had thought that it wouldn't be too hard as I have heard from a lot of the internet that it would be easy. I tried to learn the pyraminx layer by layer intuitively, but I eventually gave up as you explained it was really strange to me. That day, I figured out how it worked via tutorial, beginner method (solve sides until you get lucky). I eventually learned some pyraminx algorithms and by now, I am pretty confident with this WCA event. As a 3x3 main event solver, I love the pyraminx and I love that you were able to figure this out.
This is like the easiest âcubeâ to solve by just figuring it out
