    Got one aswell. It's great for the 556 and 300AAC bit for the 30-06 I wish it had a bit more weight. That's not a very tricky thing to fix though. I just put a sandbag or what ever on it.
    Cheers from Sweden

    Great thorough review! I'm considering one for sighting in a few rifles. Does it hold standard bolt action rifles secure enough for making turret adjustments without movement for zeroing?

    • @Westernops
      @Westernops  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, it works good for standard rifles. I used it for sighting in my new TC campus and a new Remington 700. If you use westops10 to get 10% off anything at Caldwell.com

    I watched your video before I decide to buy one, thanks for the info
    I also shoot left handed , when I got my rest in the mail, I decided to see if I could change the adjuster knob to make it easier to for a left hander
    There is a roll pin that holds the gear for raising the front rest ,before putting on the frame,
    If you roll the rest all the way down
    Then roll slightly back up to get the roll pin facing up , then you can take a roll pin punch and tap the pin part way through the gear and shaft, do not push it to far down or you won’t be able to rotate it!
    Then rotate the shaft and gear so the roll pin is sticking upward , then
    You can pull it out with a pair of visegrips, then slid out the handle and put in from the other side , then put the roll pin back in, and you have the control knob on the right side which works better for lefthanders

      @@Westernops I grew up shooting right handed guns, then I used lever actions, now I have about 3 left hand bolt guns, along with some right hand bolts, lever guns also , pump shot guns, I have a left hand browning stainless stalker 7mm i have used for 30 years now my main go to gun, last one I bought is left hand 375 Ruger Hawkeye, laminated stainless ,have not had a chance to use it yet, maybe now I can get it sighted in with this new gun rest.😀

    The knob on the left side could be reversed to the right side for lefty’s like myself. Minor disassembly required, very easy. Punch and thin needle nose pliers required. Did mine before assembly

      @@Westernops just ordered one on Amazon. $70.00 right now. Would this work well enough as a cleaning stand. Thinking of buying a Tipton gun vise as well. Might kill two birds with one stone with the Stinger.

      @@jak3636 it would say it’s okay for a bolt gun. It might not be the best for an AR. I would say just make sure the butt of the gun is higher so any solvent runs out the front and not back into your action or trigger assembly.

    The set screw for locking in the front rest is in a horrible position. I bought one for my FX Impact airgun and have to slide the rest all the way back to level the barrel. Otherwise it will tip the barrel because its not the best rest for an airgun. But when I slide it back theres no way I can get to the locking screw. My only complaint.

    • @Westernops
      @Westernops  Před 3 lety +2

      I don’t use the locking screw. I have set so it won’t fall down when the rifle is on it and just leave it.

      @@Westernops Ok thanks for the info. I will just snug it up a bit then. That should work. I thought it would be good for my FX Impact airgun but it's not. The balance is off on the gun because it is a shorter barrel. Also when the gun is seated I can barely get my finger onto the trigger because the back rest is in the way. I'm sure it will work on other guns but this one it's terrible. Thanksfor the help though.

    I have the Caldwell lead sled just like the stinger it has the same feet on the legs not a very stable set up with the rubber stoppers every time you shoot it slides for precision shooting not a very good design for the money you have to pay for them they should have put spikes on them that grip the bench
