Yes, absolutely, you can start it now and the pot should be in shade until you see some leaves and then you can shift to a place which gets morning sun let us say until 1 pm. Watering is critical, should water it every 3-4 days depending on the pit size and make sure you got a good drainage hole. It would be great if you add this channel to your Subscription list. Hi there. Welcome to my channel, appreciate your time here and of course the comment beats everything😀. Now about the question- you got everything in place- if you want the best result then check the weather- hot or too hot (cold- don't start a bougainvillea, simple as that, it wont work)....if it's hot then use 80%cocopeat 20%garden soil and if its hot then 50%cocopeat 30%sand 10%garden soil (coz send will help in water retention to a greater degree)......mind you, this mix is just for the starting of the cuttings in a disposable cup. When you are repotting then the soil mix changes to 50%garden soil 20% sand 30%vermicompost. Hope I answered your question. Anything else, please let me know. And yes, keep supporting. Cheers!!

boy this video is amazing I can't tell u how many times I tried to catch thees, flowers sometimes I would see them on the road I cut a piece an stick them in the soil, water them an they just dry up , gonna give this a try as soon as possible thanks very much, wish I was near by to get one of those, although I think I will do it for my self by the way I'm in Jamaica so that would be a long way off.

Sure, here is the soil mix and it's pretty simple-
⁕ 70% Normal Garden Soil + 30% Cocopeat (if the temperature is closer to 30-35 degrees Celsius)
⁕ 50% Normal Garden Soil + 50% Cocopeat (if the temperature is closer to 18-25 degrees Celsius)

Shefleras for example.
Yes, cinnamon is a proven fungicide-cum-rooting hormone and undoubtedly work on all kinds of cuttings, even Shefleras!!

Yes, absolutely, this would work with all kinds of cuttings though make sure of the right time, soil, and watering schedule and you will be fine. Just one thing, transplantation is critical so make sure the pot is good for at least 6 months for the cutting, because early transplantation kills cuttings almost 70% of the time.

Repotting
3+ months is a great time to repot. Also, please make sure you see some great visible growth on the cutting- amount of leaves or flowering, perfect and you can repot.

About your question- put them in an open area though no direct sun for a couple of months. And keep watering them every 2-3 days- it's best to start them in small styrofoam or plastic disposable cups coz then you can manage them better and results are awesome. @@shantidasari1164 Hi Ma’am, thank you for being here, welcome to my channel. Please make sure you are subscribed and keep up the support. About your questions- yes, I do make drainage holes though they are about 1 mm in diameter given its just a teacup. I am so sorry to hear that but don’t worry we will figure it out. Try it once again- get the cuttings off of a 3+ year old bougainvillea. The size should be about the size of an average palm of hand. Now remove all the leaves and thorns- and scar the bottom of the cutting well and then let them sit in cinnamon and water solutions for about 3-4 hours. Meanwhile pre-soak the pots so that the cuttings and pots (50% garden soil + 50% cocopeat) are ready at the same time. Now slide the cuttings in and water some more. Put these pots in an area where there is no direct sun and make sure you water them very second day in the evenings and soak the stems too. Now when you see the leaves (a few pairs) then bring them to an area which gets morning sun and let them grow in the cups until they flower or about three times the size of the cup. Hello Justin, how have you been? We have interacted before if I remember correctly!
That's a GREAT question, for one, you need to spend a lot of time with plants to come up with such ideas, and two, you have propagated a lot more plants from cuttings than an average plant person, so I am impressed.
Yes, it is possible, in fact, I have a video in the making where I have started LONG cuttings (not 6 feet though but almost 3 feet). Now, it would work, sure, but please note that such a big cutting would have a dead top part before it sprouts somewhere close to the base or somewhere in the middle. And the end result would be you have a new Bougainvillea plant which is 3 or 4 feet, of course, if you are lucky maybe even 5 feet but my best bet would be 3 feet. So, by all means, please go ahead, that's a perfect start for a future Bougainvillea tree.
P.S. The better process than we discussed above would be to do air layering, if you choose a branch that is 6 feet long, you will get a plant that is 6 feet long, it's hard but worth it. Here's a video I worked on some time ago-

Last month I transplanted a 8ft high 1.5 inch diameter bougainvillea. But this was with a root ball. I cut back on all the leaves except for about 10. So happy to see it sprouting new buds and tiny leaves now.

I have about 15 baby bougainvilleas that are growing great however they are not flowering it's been 2 months.
What kind of soil did you propagate these in please?

Wow, that's impressive. Congratulations!! Bougainvillea when started from cutting will flower quicker if the first 3 months of their life the temperatures decrease. Let me explain- I stay in Dubai and May, June, July are the hottest months, December, January and February are the coldest months- so if i start a cutting in August, it should flower by November or December. However if I start a cutting in February, it may not flower by June, July. I know it sounds crazy, we know that a dry period forces plants to flower, however the case with new plants started from cuttings is completely opposite. And once you analyze- when you started those cuttings of yours and when are you expecting them to flower- you would realise the reason stated above makes all the sense. And just to be clear, they would flower for sure, just that would take double the time or even more.
My soil mix while propagating Bougainvilleas is simple-
- Temp between 18-35 degrees C (50% garden soil + 50% cocopeat)
- Temp above 35 degrees C (50% garden soil + 30% sand + 20% cocopeat)
- Temp below 18 (please don't start bougainvillea cuttings)

I'm a florist and in fresh flower arrangements we use a drop of bleach to keep bacteria out of the water.
I saw someone had asked that question.. I'll do a few propagations and then do a couple with the bleach.

@@nidalmalaeb6193 No, they need to be in the shade for at least 2 months. A little bit of morning sun is fine but not too much (if it's unavoidable). The 3rd month should be partial sun and after that, you can keep them in full sun, no problem.

Hi, thank you for the awesome video. I tried propagation with a covered plastic as seen in another video but my stem is growing mold. Anything I can do to save it?
Do we need them under the shade while waiting for them to show signs of thriving?
Yes, that's right! They will be in a shaded area for 1.5 -2 months depending on as you said 'signs of thriving'. Also, first 7-10 days, make sure you keep the soil moist and don't let it go hard dry so water every 2 days. After that, you can water change the watering schedule to once in 4 days, and after 2-3 months, water once every week. Moreover, if you have paper tea cups, use them however please make sure they are kept on a higher level and in the open, so that air can dry it right after you water the cuttings otherwise it might get torn in a week.

You own that plant and you have every right to deny anyone cuttings and it would be so nice if someone just asks, you would gladly offer them some while pruning or trimming exercises.

About the question- You got to keep them in shade or morning sun (max 2 hours of sun in that particular area) though shade is better. Only when first few pairs of leaves come out, you can expose the young plant to the sun.

@@GauravChhikaraGardenDubai yes, I noticed Simba later in the video. One of mine looks exactly like him. That said, im going to try my hands on some bougainvillea cuttings this monsoon. Planted five last October by using a rooting hormone and only one was successful

Hmmmm......three cuttings out of five, successfully propagated would have been a great result. Nevertheless, I feel the lower temperature (autumn/ winter) didn't help much, you said October. Monsoon would be perfect, and try Cinnamon powder, should do the job this time around. I wish you energy and luck! Anything for me, all you have to do is comment and we will talk about it.
