đ How old are you? 22
đ What are you studying? I just finished studying English Literature at the University of Exeter. But we are students for life, and I hope that I will continue learning even though I am out of structured education.
đWhat are your favourite books? âą 200 book recommendatio...
đ Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!

Loving the "more than just a productive week" closure
I know right!!
I love that spring is rainy and sunny, sun-quenched flowers are just that bit more colourful in grey than they are in blue.
This is so accurately put!
I love that you are doing so much during a day (productive or not) and dont see you much on social media. So many people spent their days with hanging on a couch and scrolling through nonsense. Its so refreshing to see someone not doing that but instead spending the time with reading, walking, baking, cleaning, visiting family etc. đ love it.
Ruby Granger - making doing things fashionable againâ€
Your positive approach to all kinds of weather is so inspirational. I struggle with the cold and wet spring this year, but watching you appreciate nature the way it presents itself has given me a much more positive outlook. Thank you for all your videos, they are so calming and inspirational at the same time.
I'm so pleased to hear this - all aspects of nature are beautiful when considered the right way x
@@RubyGranger8 how would you take a positive approach to 35 degree summer days in Australia when all the grass is dry and dead, and walking in the humidity feels like wading through water. It genuinely makes me such a sad hermit. I belong in the English countryside not here đ
@@user-lx2mv5ew1jJust stay homeđ
I literally once took a train to Tel Aviv when I lived in Israel for a year and turned around and took the train back because the weather was unbearable hot and humid. Good that they have cheap train tickets đ
Hey Ruby!
I'm a self taught polyglot currently working on my 8th and 9th languages (Icelandic and Russian respectively), so I thought I would share a few of my best language learning tips. I'm an input based learning (also known as immersion, though I'm not around people who speak my target languages sadly).
1. Focus on watching shows and reading books.
2. Avoid books you now well enough to quote more than a handful of lines. Books you know too well will lead to you using the words you know was cues for remembering the next sentence or two, which leaves you with an illusion of understanding the language.
3. Avoid subtitles in English! These might seem helpful, but they give the subconscious an easy way out instead of forcing it to untangle the language.
4. Don't translate more than a handful of words while reading/watching a show. The goal is not to process the new language through the lens of English. The new language needs to take on meaning of it's own, separate in your mind from English. This works best if you only look up a few essential words here and there, and mostly let the subconscious puzzle it out. You can actively try to understand if you want, but leaning back and passively listening or reading works wonders as well.
5. Be patient! Especially with input methods, you won't notice much progress at first, perhaps for months. The break through comes around the A2/B1 level. At this point, input based learners start to progress rapidly, while those using other methods stop seeing much improvement.
Best of luck!
Thank you so much for the advice! X
@@RubyGranger8 I'm sorry, CZcams did something strange with my reply and cut out some tips. I just edited it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
You are describing immersion learning and itâs a very important part of learning a language. Alliance Francaise teaches French entirely with immersion and recommends these methods.
@@ariahauser4224 this is even more helpful - especially this - "The goal is not to process the new language through the lens of English. The new language needs to take on meaning of it's own, separate in your mind from English". Thank you again!
Yes, great tips! I can also confirm that they are very efficient đ
You defined a foible thatâs haunted me all my life but I could never put it into words: "perfectionism leads to procrastination sometimes"-thank you, Ruby!

I find it so healing every time you upload a routine or a readathon, thank you so much for sharing!:)
Love your video! I think hearing the birds sing in the morning is always really enchanting. Hope you had a lovely weekâ€
Isn't it just! There is nothing quite like it!
Omg that quote about perfectionism and procrastination was so relatable! Iâve been struggling with a lot of procrastination lately with final projects for school and itâs reassuring to think about it in a different light, knowing that I care about it which is why I procrastinate it. The five minute rule is definitely helpful!! Doing a task just takes getting over that initial energy input to get started, but then once you have momentum going, it feels much more doable. (Also breaking it up into smaller chunks helps.) Thank you for a lovely video Ruby!! Made my day đđ·
I am in love with your Autumn vlogs, but also very fond of the vibe in your Spring vlogs đ
This is funny, back in school the very first book I tried to read in English was Harry Potter too đ I quickly gave up because it was soooo hard, now it's kind of amazing to look back 15 years and see how easy reading and writing in English is now for me!
The Enchanted April is one of my favorite books. It was the first pick that I read with my 91-year-old next door neighbor during quarantine and we loved it. Iâm so happy to see you reading it and I hope more people do!! đ„čđ·
Once again your video is helping me out of a rough mental spot. I'm eternally grateful for you content and hope you are having a great time âš
Sending lots of love Ruby!! I hope youâre ok! đ€
I'm very well and hope you are too :)x
i love sunday's. rain makes the grass grow. i hope you are having a good sunday ruby
what a lovely Sunday routine! so full of lovely energy and beauty. Thank you for sharing your Sunday with us Ruby. For us here in PEI spring is not here yet. The trees are bare and cold is in the air. I can't wait until warmer weather arrives and blooms and blossoms appear. I Love marzipan cake! i think I will have to try and make a cake this weekend. I wish you the best with your book. I will also be making your cuppa tea this weekend, I bought it from bird and blend and love it so much. Have a lovely weekend and I can't wait to see your travel vlog!
I love your morning routines, day in the life, etc. videos and your videos are so aesthetic. I also love the organisation videos as well :-) your videos are awesome!
Love your vlog! Such a treat coming home after a long day at work!
I loveee your videos, Ruby!! It always makes my day better when you post
what a lovely thing to say!
Lovely video and yes enjoy those Grandparent visits †That's wonderful that they live close. Cute cat too!đ»
Your videos both relax me and inspire me to work hard. Love them!!
I love how you were listening to the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack while reading! Iâm reading it in class and I absolutely love it, though every time there is irony or the going of back and forth between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy nobody in my class gets it.
Perfect vid to ease into the weekend! Happy Friday :)
Hi Ruby! I just finished my school year and I always struggle in the summer with feeling a bit purposeless and with no motivation to do anything that will help me feel fulfilled. Watching your vlogs is helping me, though! Iâm actually writing notes about things I can do when Iâm bored as I watch through your video. All this to say, itâs a lot harder for some people to function without the structure of school or work, and seeing what youâve been doing during your gap year is really helping me to stay motivated. Thanks!
Beautiful vlog, Ruby! Cheers!
i've been watching your videos for 2 years now and they never fail to relax me no matter what I am going through
Ah thank you so much for being here!

I'm so pleased you like the video x
Your videos makes my days sweeter! Hope you have a good one as well

Perfectionism --> Procrastination
Wow, I hadn't thought of it exactly this way. But I've often noticed this in my life. I just hadn't put exact words to it. Thank you so much!
I love your videos! I am kind of stressed these days since my midterm exams are only a few days away, but watching your videos makes me relaxed somehow.
Hi Ruby!
I am also learning Latin and I've gone through the Latin translations of the Philosopher's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets and it really helped me read much more fluently. Don't be discouraged if it takes longer at first, my speed improved significantly and since the vocabulary is similar, if you learn it as you go, you should understand most words after a few chapters. I also second the suggestion of wiktionary! All the best
I love theses videos...they always put me in a very good mood..I hope your having a lovely evening.
Thank you for taking the time to say that Thomas :)
@@RubyGranger8 Your very welcome I always do love watching your videos always do cheer me up.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate Ruby's desktop wallpaper?!
Lovely video as always. Your productivity is inspiring. I prefer tea but I'm also new to the coffee club and enjoying it very much. I prefer tea with dairy milk but coffee with oat milk. I'm intent on becoming fully plant-based so maybe drinking coffee is a better route for me to take right now!
I love that you're keeping up with Latin! I'm a classics student and I absolutely adore these day in the life video's :) Keep up
This video made me open my window, sit there for a while looking out at the people walking by and the sunset and light a cinnamon scented candle
this is just the type of slow day i simply adore
Your garden shots are so lovely. I'd never heard of Dame's Rocket before.
Hey! For translating latin, 'Wiktionary' is really good as it gives you the declension chart etc. plus it shows you its etymology which is very useful in linking new words with words you have already learnt. Another good dictionary is 'Lexidium' as it also shows you examples of where the word has been used within the Latin Corpus. Hope this helps! Google translate can sometimes be a bit loose.
I never officially learned English, I picked it up on TV and through songs. So reading English is not my strong point. I tried to read some books and I really struggled.
But then I picked up Harry Potter and it goes smooth as butter. I'm currently on Prisoner of Azkaban đ
Harry Potter is the solution for (almost) everything đ
Right, I read it in German and Spanish
wow, your garden is huge đŻ itâs so pretty
Hi Ruby! I am using the same trick for learning language - I'm from New Zealand and I'm reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Maori ("Hare Pota me te Whatu Manapou") It's actually so good if you are an intermediate level learner (and obsessed with Harry Potter)!
I was just looking to see if you've uploaded and then boom! Thank you đâ€
good timing!
omg iâve never been this early to one of your videos!! iâm at the library studying right now and this is just the thing to put me in the right mood :)

Yay for the new video đâ€
Have a great Sunday Ruby!! Love the video... â€Enjoy!! Also, I am a Potterhead too, hehe đ đ
What a lovely video! I like the editing on this :)
I'm loving the plant names, I actually have an exam about the 200 most common ones in my area in summer but am unfortuanly only experienced in birds and snails.
I believe it's so important to know more about our native flora and fauna, so much is suffering and disappering and without knowing the names one might not even realize it.
love your vids! đ€
thank you :)
also, just a tip from a fellow latin learner. logeion is great for latin translation with older texts and context-- because it gives examples from across times and uses direct quotes as evidence in how some words might be used. it also cites authors, and gives several definitions! happy translating :)
I also used to be so OCD when I was young and had no kids.
But oh my god, everything in your life is so orderly! I understand you enjoy it though.
I'm so excited for your Venice vlog!! :)
I'm so looking forward to sharing it! It will be up next Wednesday :)x
Hi ruby! I did latin at GCSE and now A level and I too still need the translator!! I find the best one is Whitaker's words. Its very reliable and gives you the type of word as well as the translation. :)
This is such a soothing video and brought me a lovely dose of calm today - thank you Ruby. I hope you're able to enjoy as much tranquility as possible before the chaos of Michaelmas term in a few months! Do you know yet which college you've been allocated?
The enchanted April is one of my favourite books ever!!!
Hi Ruby, I got some bad exam results at college today, despite studying so hard, this is just what I needed â€
I'm sorry to hear this and I hope you are doing okay? It can feel so big at the time, but everything will turn out okay. You have time - so much time xx
â€Love it†Thank you!
comfort video đ€đ€
I'm a classics student @ uni and would definitely recommend using wiktionary as well for latin vocab as it gives you the form of the word (like conjugation, declension etc.) as well as the word it's derived from, which is super helpful when you're trying to pick up the structure of the language as well !
that's such a great tip! Thank you - I will start using this :)x
Seconded! It was such a lifesaver for me.
Thank you for mentioning the Seek app. I just downloaded it and can't wait to start using it.
Iâve also read Harry Potter whilst I was learning German, it really helped me a lot. I was even able to guess what godfather is in German. Happy to see the others following the same path đ
Ruby, Enchanted April is one of my favourite films ever - I highly recommend if you haven't seen it! I've read the book as well, the film is just more vibrant âĄ
I must watch it! Thank you! x
Love this video! Can you do a video explaining how you go about doing research for 15 mins? What sites do you use? How do you not get overwhelmed with information? Do you try to summarise your learnings in a doc?
I always love seeing your content. But please remember you don't have to be productive everyday. You mention in the morning you are very tired. It is Sunday morning, you can just go back to bed. That is okay.
Hi Ruby! I love your videos.đ„°

Hey Ruby, the bank Monzo automatically organises your spending into groups and letâs you set trends and budgets based off your spending habits. It groups your spending by things like groceries, transport, eating out etc.
I just imagine you living in a huge 6 bedroomed cottage with like 5 acres of land... this is my dream house if I am picturing it well in my head. Xx

Loved this video, my alarm also didnt go off but the rest of my families did haha...im also a mix of tea and coffee ahaha
Harry Potter in Latin! OMG! I had no idea! Cool!
Latin is SO hard. I'm glad to see people are still studying it.
Hello Ruby, maybe you go more in depth about your approach to studying Lating elsewhere or I simply got it wrong from this video but the best advice I can give you when translating is always start from verbs. Once you have the one(s) of the main sentence, look for subordinates. Then search for subjects (starting again from the main sentence) and after that look for complements. It will save you time and it's the method we were taught in school, you follow the logical structure of the propositions rather than the order of the words. Good luck and thank you for the content you keep providing us, I've been following you for years :')
as someone who just took her Abitur (german equivalent to alevels) in latin, it's kind of fascinating to see somebody learn latin xD I'm so happy, I don't have to study it anymore. But latin school classes are probably different than learning it more freely đ
living for the black outfit today!!
what an interesting way of preparing coffee! never seen it....
This video is a reminder that I need to learn to live in silence, it's unbelievable how much my days pass by full of noise and that overwhelms me to the point it prevents me to focus and be productive. I'd appreciate any tips to start working on silence.
There is so much power in that quietness
I had no idea HP even existed in Latin! That is a great idea. I have thought of doing something similar with Spanish. I understand it spoken and can speak some, if forced. But I have next to zero practice in reading it. Or writing.
Whitaker's words is a great online Latin dictionary by the way, if you're interested. It tells you the meaning of the word but the case, gender, number etc as well!
That's such a great tip! Thank you! x
My mom who likes to watch you with me wishes you showed the ready cake :) Lovely video though!

hi Ruby! I donât ever really comment but I wanted to say thank you đ€ your videos have motivated me countless times and youâre such an inspiration to so many people. I always feel at home when coming to your channel x
I procrastinate because the task is daunting. eg an assignment as i don't enjoy doing those so i leave it to the last minute.
I have Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in both French and Russian for the same reason - helped a lot!
Your routine is nice but all these routines there always from single people either not much kids.i have 5 and even Sunday can be tricky ,loud and so I trink even more tea and coffee , but I prefer that. But still watching ,cause I can't have that and it's fascinating.cant wait for your book I buy that!
Hii Ruby! Just a tip for you. In your video it seems that your IMAC is on a really hight brightness and the blue light is coming through extra hard , which can be harmful for your eyes and it can disturb your sleep. Especially when you work in a dark environment (after dusk). I see that you have blue filter in your glasses, however this might not be enough. What I always do, is I turn on Night Shift (which can also be set to turn on automatically from dusk until dawn) and set the screen to a very warm tone colour. If you also turn down the brightness of your IMAC just a little, you will experience an incredible difference. Your eyes will be much more rested. I hope this will help you! đ
Whittakerâs words is good for looking up latin -> english vocab !
a helpful tip: with the google translate app on your phone, you can take a picture of the text, and it will translate the entire page for you!
Hi ruby not to sound creepy or anything. I love your videos ive been watching them for years. I have my finals in a week and i was stressing so much that i dreamt i met you at a cafe to ask for study tips. đ but the dream ended while i was asking my question. Nevertheless i love your work and you motivate me to keep going. Im applying to some unis so fingers crossed it worksđ
Hey Iâm actually early for once I always watch every single videos â€
Becky! Thank you for being so early :)
I personally prefer tea. I don't drink coffee at all. Well, you are now a whole new coffee person also! ... I should say that I did drink coffee when I was studying at the university but not anymore. lol
I study Latin at university and I would highly suggest using Logeion or wiktionary for Latin Vocab instead, as theyâre usually more accurate than google translate!
I think I noticed that you organise your morning research on notion? I'd love if you could go through how you approach that because I find (even simple) study difficult outside of the routine that uni gives me
It's a very basic system! I have a "personal encyclopaedia" page and, every day, I just add my research under a toggle for the date. Then, at the end of the month, I file it into the correct subject area (philosophy, language, science etc.) x
