We decided to perform and record Popper’s Elfentanz opus 39 (Dance of the Elves), one of the most virtuosic and exciting encore written for cello, but this time in a very personal arrangement for clarinets, glockenspiel and… TRIANGLE of course!
David Popper was a famous Bohemian cellist and prolific composer (1843-1913), he made an incredible career as a virtuoso cellist, a chamber musician (he played for Brahms himself with the Budapest quartet), a cello and composition teacher, writing all type of repertoire and notably some instructional pieces as the incredible cello studies (I may record a few in the future 😇). David Popper was one of the last great cellists who did not use an endpin. An 1880 drawing of Popper playing in a string quartet shows that although he started his cello career without using an endpin, he adopted it later in his life.
On this video, Anastasia is playing on a 1743 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. I’m playing 3 different Buffet Légende in A (Green Line, Mopani and boxwood) with Vandoren BD4 and V12 3,5 reeds, a Buffet Tosca Bass (Vandoren B40 and 3,5 traditional reeds) and a Buffet Contrabass from 1935.

Agreed, though, as a pianist myself, I have to say this accompaniment is very hard too, so it would take a really good pianist to play it. Or Maestro Baldeyrou😁
Though from the perspective of a clarinetist and cellist, I have to say many accompanists are not very enthusiastic, I agree, likely because they do it primarily for the money (I asked a few and that's what they said)

Actually, this is the best cello performance I've found on youtube. Perfect tempo (not stupidly fast), and the performance is filled with characters, dynamics, phrasing and story-telling. Great arrangement too. Bravo!

Hello again, Maestro! I just had an incredible experience I would love to share with you! Over the past few weeks, I have gotten the chance to try out the Legende A and B Flat Clarinets!I think they are spectacular! I wasn't as fond of the particular A model that I tried, but they are certainly my favorite of the newer model clarinets! I still hope that one day I will be able to try the Boxwood Clarinets in Paris and/or visit you either during or after I attend conservatory!!! That would be really fun! Once again, such a great performance and I'm looking forward to seeing you more soon!

Bonjour,
une vidéo un peu particulière pour moi dans le sens ou il y a d'un coté un instrument que je pratique depuis bientôt 30 ans: la clarinette et un autre instrument qui me met très souvent les poils au garde a vous: le violoncelle. J'ai très souvent eu, ces dernières années, l'envie de m'inscrire au cours de violoncelle au conservatoire en plus de l'écriture. j'adore le violoncelle. Je le trouve très expressif.
Vu que dans votre commentaire vous nous demandez des idées, il y a une symphonie que j'adore: la symphonie du nouveau monde. Alors la, celle la.....J'a-do-re!!!! Surtout le 2eme mouvement et le cor anglais. les parties de cor sont très belles également. Bref tout est beau dans cette symphonie. D'ailleurs après ce message, vous pourrez deviner ce que je vais écouter lol
