  • Not a huge fan of the intake kits you can buy for the RX8, so I made one. Pretty simple setup, nothing too fancy or expensive, and utilizing the stock MAF tube from the air box. Should make for some effective air suction!

    Not sure if you're aware, the MAF screen is critical to the smooth running and idling of the rx8, it reduces turbulence over the MAF, without it your losing performance, you can get away with just one, ideally fitted in one of your silicone couplers

      I saved it, just need to figure out how to get it mounted in there. It was between the MaF and the filter in the airbox. So I need to mount it in my alum pipe somehow

      @@RADPotential on the aem intake there is an extra coupler that holds the screen(a cut in your straight section of tube and a straight silicone coupler may work if you fit the screen between the cut sections of tube, although that depends on diameters) ideally the screen needs to be close to the MAF so not sure if you can fit it to the plastic with an epoxy putty or similar

      on the Racing Beat site they reckon each MAF screen =1 Bhp, I kept one screen and the idle seems fine. I've heard other people have no issues running no screens, whilst others report poor idle and stalling....

    Love your channel. Thank you for putting a grommet on power wire. I just picked up a bad ass 04 rx8 with a greety turbo set up. 30k on car. Dude thought engine was toast. Psi was a little low but some atf bumped it up. Checked spark on it wanted to start. Fresh fuel and I had it running. I will post some videos when I get it sorted.

    Have you looked into oil cooler thermostats? They make ones that open sooner and Atkins makes one that is a plug and it's always open.I think they would do more than making some air ducks...

    Great video, did your car struggle to start since moving the battery to the trunk? I am planning on doing the battery relocation and have come across few rx8 forum's and alot of them said you need to run the positive from battery straight to starter first? Then use a block and run the altetnator, eps seperate? Then they said to run a new negative from the engine block to the chassis? Is all that really necessary.....how did your setup work for you? Thanks

    • @RADPotential
      @RADPotential  Před rokem +1

      I hooked the battery up exactly to the factory location positive terminal. And then grounded it to the strut tower in the rear. Also grounded the factory location ground wire up front. No extra wires. Works great. As long as you buy a high quality relocation kit. With big thick wire. You will be fine

    I recently installed a Mazdaspeed cold air intake I got off a junk yard rx8. It was running fine until it started to jerk during driving and ended up sounding like a chainsaw choking. My code reader says that cylinder 1 is misfiring, my air is too lean, and my MAP sensor circuit is low. I switched out my spark plugs which caused the misfiring in the first rotor but still not idling right. Also cleaned my MAF sensor and ordered a new MAP sensor.
    My question for you is what did you end up doing with your vacuum line for your intake? I'm considering in putting back my OEM intake in hopes that vacuum line fixes my issues with bad idling but I really don't want to. P.s. I don't believe I blew a seal cause I'm still having compression and the motor only has about 50,000 miles. So what did you do with your vacuum line, should I reinstall the vacuum pump for the air intake, and any other suggestions you can give me to fix this issue?

      Status update:
      New spark plugs
      New ignition coils
      New MAP and MAF sensors
      No vacuum leaks with cold air now
      Still having idling issues but I am close to fixing it! So with all the new hardware added, some forms say that the ECU has to relearn how to function. I'm doing the process of turning the car on but not start, pump the brakes 20 times, then starting it, while the car is cold. But it seems to stall out still, and when I give it gas for a quick Second it still stalls. I am confused to how to continue resetting the ECU. Do I try to hold the RPMs and bring them down to idle? How long should I hold a specific RPM? How do I get the ECU to reprogram the fuel trims while not stalling out and having to touch the gas pedal?

      @jamesowen418 Před rokem

      @@animeotherstuff1189 did you find a solution for your problem? If you removed the stock airbox, did you cap off the vacuum inlet on the throttle body? (Usually has a vacuum line going from there to the airbox & vfad solenoid system).

    • @animeotherstuff1189
      @animeotherstuff1189 Před rokem

      @james owen I figured out the issue a while ago but yes, it is now resolved! I cap off all the vacuum lines like everyone told me but what I ended finding out is that the mesh that RAD Potential mentioned to me in his comment was loosely fitted and I guess the airflow shifted it out of position. After fixing that, my car started idling correctly again 👌🏼
