In both regular Grimm and nightmare king Grimm, if you have wayward compass, you can beat them in a couple hits

Actually, the cutscene at the end of the Path of Pain shows why the Hollow Knight couldn’t seal in the Radiance for eternity. The Pale King got attached to the Hollow Knight, and the Hollow Knight got attached to the Pale King, making the younger no longer completely hollow.

I think that Grimm is a sort of Vessel for the nightmare king, but less of a prison and more of a vehicle. You fill the grimmchild with nightmare essence and it becomes a new Grimm. This is why the nightmare king resides in Grimm's dream.

I also do this. I discovered it by accident when falling way down to the bottom of the screen in the middle of an encounter in Kingdom's Edge with one of the earlier Grimmkins. Then I did it again on purpose with the Nightmares in Fungal Wastes and Ancient Basin. (By which I mean I found a better platform again, not that I fell down.)
I wish I did that for a few of mine.

Something o keep in mind, don't hit the troupe master when he bows at you, when you start the fight, that way he doesn't start with the bullet hell attack.

if you equip the correct charms and have the upgraded upwards damaging spell then you can hit him while he is bowing then stand under him and spam the spell then with 10 hits of it he will die.

A PSA. If you take the Banishment route before upgrading your fragile charms, you will LOSE the chance to do so. Divine disappears with the troupe.

There’s also a bunch of juicy lore in the Hunter’s Log. The notes for each of the Grimmkin form a poem that shed a lot of light as to what this ritual is. Also at the very bottom after beating the path of pain you get a log entry for a particular seal you can find several places in the game, namely at the start of the Path of Pain and in the secret room in the Weaver’s Den.

I *JUST* beat grimm with the weaverlings. They made it *SO* much easier to focus on dodging since they do all the damage for me.

Something interesting about the weaver song is that, when first obtained in the Weavers Den, there is a love Weaver waiting for you at the exit that immediately scurries away as soon as you can barely see it. I hope The Weavers are further explored in the last DLC.

The whole Nightmare realm concept looks interesting. We may or may not get more info on that in the next content pack. Pretty sure that the last content pack is going to be big. I'm hoping that they take their time and release it in like March 2018. Hopefully no one forgets about the game by then. lmao
I actually used a different charm set for Nightmare King Grimm. Quick Focus and Shape of Unn actually make it possible to heal during the fire pillar attack, so I used those. Sharp Shadow extends the shadow dash and lets you get a bit of extra damage in. And lastly, I used Unbreakable Heart so I could take more hits. Since I didn’t play this game until after Lifeblood, I had to bring Grimmchild with me, which uses up two slots.
Also Unn charm help with bats attack on both and on some others. Btw sharp shadow also helps.

The pale king cutscene is the moment the original hollow knight bonded with his father causing him to be an impure vessel for the infection to take over

The pufferfish attack (yes that’s its name) was never random it was always to determine his health levels
Just putting this out there, you can defeat normal grimm by hitting him with just 8 abyss shrieks. Just hit him when he bows and when he’s above you just spam it (use spell twister and shaman stone for this strategy to work, you can throw grub song in there too). The fight can last les than a minute this way

If your an idiot, like me, and you start the Grimm Troupe content directly after you get the Mantis Claw and you don't really have anything else (except the dash), the Grimmchild charm is really useful without your nail being upgraded enough to do a lot of damage. I also didn't have any nail lengthening charms at this point so the range really helped me. But I can imagine that once you get the right charms and enough charm notches, the Grimmchild may not be as useful in some situations.
finally beaten path of pain
They are gazing at White lady's garden/ white lady herself, as you can see by the pure white, leafless branches(or whatever those tentacles are). Don't know the great significance in that, but a nice tidbit, nonetheless.

I have bad news... you'll wait a *heck lot* for that "DLC"...
flukenest with shaman stone helped me a lot with the grimm master battle. that spell takes a huge chunk of health on the boss when fired at point blank range
I had this crazy but weirdly effective strategy. When the Nightmare King started to do his flame pillars, I quickly charged a Dash Slash and hit him with it, then I shadow dashed through the third flame pillar, and while the fourth one spawned at where I was, I end up directly underneath Grimm. Since I'd still land in the fire, I use Abyss Shriek, which deals max damage since Grimm does not take knockback.
allright I just did the white palace and the path of pain, first time around in steel souls... took me around 1 hour and 15 minutes, white palace was a blast I absolutely enjoyed it.... path of pain was only frustrating because there where very little checkpoints so you had to redo some stuff.
Easy way to defeat those grimm kin things with those torches:
Charge cyclone slash and wait for them to charge at you. Then immediately attack with the cyclone slash. Dont forgot to dodge those flames that they throw. Its gonna take a while, but trust me. It works.
You can make the Ancient Basin Nightmare fight 2:04 alot easier if you lure it to a long platform on the east end of the room.
Nail Arts work pretty well, charge it up and wait for Grimm's attack and use it given a chance
Who else is like "10:30; about that Pale King thing, there's lore that surrounds why the Hollow Knight might have an emotional side, which also supports your playable character being the true Hollow lad, and that PK tried to choose the true one, but either misjudged, or overexposed them to the point where they gained some sort of emotion (like Zote.) Therefore explaining how the infection broke out, and why you are the only one that can stop it." Just wondered if anyone else is asking.
I've done the path of pain, it actually is more fun than it seems
When i saw Divine for the first time and only saw her upper half i thought 'Huh,thats a pretty normal character for a travelling circus of mask wearing nightmare bugs.'
then i saw the rest of her body and immediately forgot that statement

honestly surprised dreamshield was added in the grimm troupe expansion. i'd honestly not be able to live without this charm and you're telling me this was added IN THE GRIMM TROUPE? One of the coolest expansions ever? cOOOL
With the grim kin, when platforming is annoying you can just walk to a medium to large section and stay there, it means that you can’t be as aggressive but there is no more platforming.
What i found works on the bat attack is a jump between the bats, monarch wings, and dash

i only use 4 charms or sumfin always the same :P always works on all bosses and chillmodes
quick slash - fragile strenght unbreakable - steady body - mark of pride or sometimes for fun Grubberflys elergy or sumfin :P

Dude one thing you gotta watch mossbags 2 vids about hollow knight. They really clear some things up.
Listen, deep focus is largely underrated, there are types of fights I call.. "starving fights" they are usually fast paced fights or ones that don't give a lot of soul, with deep focus, grimm gets a lot easier, this is presuming you can dodge the spike pillar attack, dodge it and instantly start to heal, worst case scenario (if you get it fast enough) you heal two hp and take one. Most of the time this will not happen.
well deep focus takes 4 charm notches, and if you want to combine it with quick focus for regular healing time its *7*
Near the end when he said go away if you haven’t beaten it I left cuz I haven’t even lighted the flame yet lol
You get unique dialog from the white lady if you talk to her wearing the defenders crest
Also nightmare King is the only other boss with a title screen boss intro (like radiance or eternal order) showing he is to be feared
You can lure the Grimmkin enemies away to any part of the room, not just where they spawn in.
When the cutscene at the end of the path of pain shows up *SPECULATION TIME*
i suggest when grimm does his attack where he goes down then dashes forwards, use dash slash to hit him on the top of his head.
Dreamshield can be helpful when your in deepnest looking for herrah

about the "spoiler" part
this was made more obvious after the godhome dlc
i think it's supposed to show 2 things
- the pale king isn't only a sissy who seals his palace away once his plan fails, but also has positive attributes
- the hollow knight wasn't hollow, which is why the radiance could take control of him. thus the existance of "pure vessel" in godhome. (probably: you after the standard ending or just a theoretical construct)
pure vessel is just the hollow knight before radiance was sealed on him
The funny thing is they the novices the Masters in the nightmares they follow you unless it's into another room

i got dreamshield before i even knew what the grimmtroupe was
I did path of pain far before getting hive blood or deep focus
and I found it 10x easier than nkg which I did after getting every charm in the game and having 107% completion
prolly cuz I played through all of celeste before getting hollow knight
and chapter 9 in celeste makes path of pain look like 1-1
since this is in the dream realm you can just use fragile strenght and it wont break
What do I do, I went to deepnest and talked to brum, then went where the ritual started but instead of hitting the thing I exited the room and now he isn't neither in deepnest nor in where the ritual starts, can I still get the charm?

You can only fight Nightmare King Grimm with the Grimmchild equipped. If you get Carefree Melody (By banishing the Grimm Troupe) they disappear and you cant fight him or upgrade your fragile charms with Divine.

I haven't beaten hollow knight so I left when three was a spoiler warning a few days later I decide I dont care and came back only to get the second one. I guess I'm good.
So i am tryinf to get all of the charms for the achievement. Am I able to start a new game and get the carefree melody one and it still count as “all of them” collected?
Actually, deep focus and shape of unn give you the ability to heal very effectively during his fire pillar attack. You just gotta keep your mana pool up so you have it ready when he gives you the window.
