So I have a theory about the bat-throwing incident; I think it was a misunderstanding.
Not a huge Clemens fan so I have no dog in this fight. I just never bought it as intentional.
I think it was like this; it's the WS and Clemens is super on edge and probably super roided up. He's facing one of the best hitters in the national league and he owns him. Basically Clemens couldn't possibly be more fired up. He delivers the pitch and a light colored object flies toward him in a blur and for just a split second he thinks its the ball, long enough that his instincts kick in and he goes to field it. But when it gets to him and it's a sharp, pinwheeling bat it scares him and he gets a huge rush of adrenaline. In that moment of fear, anger that he almost got hurt and maybe a little bit of embarrassment he gets pissed off and throws the bat aside, but inadvertently did it right at Piazza who obviously got pissed. Then a combination of ego and old-school unwritten rules stuff keep him from walking over and explaining himself and apologizing. He would rather look too aggressive than be interpreted as soft or foolish.

“I thought it was the ball!” even if that was true, why did Clemens grab it and throw it at Piazza and not the first baseman? No one was buying it then and no one’s buying it now!

Clemens knew it was coming. Didn't shy off it and was ready to take it. You can see he even tips the cap to the pitcher. Although I don't agree with throwing at a guys head. Which im sure he meant to go ribs but missed his spot. Cos you know he's human and not superman. He was honest enough to know he had to wear it to make it right

Piazza was catching Clemens when they were teammates for the NL at the 2004 All Star Game. The AL started the contest confusing Clemens with their batting practice pitcher but I don't think Piazza was tipping them off about what was coming, he was too professional for that.

They both were battery mates in the All-star game in houston when Roger was with the Astros. There was an at-bat where Roger wouldn't go with the pitch that Mike Piazza wanted. It felt awkward how long that pause was. Finally Roger sends HIS pitch and it get blasted by, i forgot exactly who, but blasted over the train in left field. Idk how or why this saga started but Roger seems to always get the wrong end of the battle with Mike.

Clemens should have 100% been ejected from the game when he threw the barrel of the bat back. It was clearly intentional. Piazza completely owned Clemens his entire career. Clemens was, and will akways be a POS. He lucked out he played in the AL where pitchers wore skirts and didnt have to step in the batters box to face up to their actions. DH...worst part of baseball.
