    i recently injured myself due to bad form w free weights. 5 months later i’ve been using Resistance band training and my joints and tendons have never felt better. not to mention the amount of muscle i’ve built with just tube style bands is impressive. idk why i slept on them for so long.

    You know what's crazy, I have always owned at least one tube style resistance band from like my early twenties onward. But it hasn't been until recently that I understood the power of bands. Despite watching videos from James grage in the past, my mentality regarding bands was that it was a substitute for not being able to go to a gym. However during this pandemic era, I feel like I have become much more appreciative of resistance band training. So I have now expanded my collection of resistance bands to include Loop style bands and mini loop style bands. I have also purchased additional tube style bands of higher resistance levels. Pandemic era has forced me to adjust how I work out in a positive way.I had a weighted handle jump rope and speed jump rope prior, but didn't use them very often when the gyms were open. They were often times where it was tough to find space to jump rope in the gym. So I would go the traditional cardio route. Now the jump rope has become a very fun part of my exercise experience. And now I'm having just as much fun in my own backyard as I did in the gym. Maybe even more fun because I get to be outdoors in the Sun. I'm hoping more and more people find your channel because I like your approach to Fitness. It's a perfect addition to the rotation of channels that I follow.

      Where did you purchase these tube style bands with higher resistance? I see these sets of 5 everywhere, going from 10 to 50 lbs. I got two of those sets and they are great, but when I need more resistance, I may need to attach 3 or 4 of the bands to the handles at which point it gets somewhat inconvenient and I'd like to have more resistance in a single band. I have once seen one set that had one band with 60 lbs, but the was the highest, I have seen so far (and to get even one of them, I'd have to order the whole set including all those lighter bands which I already have enough of).

    I ordered resistance bands a few months back because of the lockdowns from Covid-19 and once you figure out how to use them, that you needs to start with tension as well as balancing them out, the workout is great. One thing I did find is that they don't put as much pressure on your joints as free weights do and as someone who is 50 this is a blessing. But also, there is so much variety in the workouts you can have an endless amount of exercises for each body part. I don't want to get into an argument of free weights vs. bands, each has its place and everybody has their preferences but for me, I am enjoying the band workouts and feel I get a great workout from them.

    Thats Dave , now in my early 60’s I first bands used when I travelled worried of the high cost of gyms OS, but now use exclusively.I got totally out of the Gym habit with the covid 19 shutdown of gyms, where now I don’t get the respiratory illnesses as an added benefit.
    With bands you have a gym anywhere,you have constant resistance any you keep your ligaments toned as well. I use them while walking on my beach (I live there) , and they are a good toner for surfing when eating a nutritious diet as well. I have used small weights as well butI find with bands I can get to “burning levels” easier without exhaustion .The weights still have their place for a change or to augment my session. Keep up the good work of empowering people . Scott🇦🇺

Example, I do a racked dumbbell front squat or DB squat while having a band from shoulders/neck to toe, so this way I get an accelerated concentric resistance because of the band, but also still get the eccentric on the way down because of the dumbbells (40lbs DB's).

    On Point 100% Dave. Since C19 bought bands because of Gym's being closed, and now fully understand and appreciate the benefits of keeping resistance throughout the full range of motion with what ever strength band or exercise your doing, and performing in a slower more correct form. Appreciate your channel and educating style, as well as teaching the various movements for different body parts using bands, which in turn allows us to be creative on our own for different body parts. I also believe our core benefits as well as smaller muscle groups that support our larger muscles more from the traditional commercial gym and array of different machines. The best take away is no need to spend money on costly heavy metal and machines. Just a good bench and anchor point for your bands. My only concern is that if one of those bands snap under load , it could be a painful experience/day !!!

    @freebachelor5060 Před 3 lety +3

    I am starting to believe that resistance bands are better than free weights, but there is one thing that is wrong with what you said in your video. Between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman, Ronnie actually used LESS cable work in his training as a pro bodybuilder and was a power lifter before he was a bodybuilder (Arnold also was a power lifter). I'm not even sure that outside of standing cable curls and leg curls that Ronnie used any cable machines at all(I don't even think he did any chest fly work, lol). If he did, he didn't do them on the dvds that he made back in the 2000s. It's been a while since I watched them so maybe I'm forgetting something, but I recall at least 95% of Ronnie's workouts being about in his own words lifting heavy ass weights.
    Arnold specifically wrote in his book that machines aren't as effective as free weights. So both of those guys would be the evidence against your argument. With that being said, I have been using exclusively bands for 4 months and every day am more convinced that they offer better results than weights IF you can nail the form down. Good video overall, but you might want to check your research on the Ronnie and Arnold cable work. Arnold is likely to have used more cable work than Ronnie ever did.

    Dave, a lot of heavy lifter's get hurt or eventually get joint problems. i have a friend who is a mess from power lifting he regrets it, an he's only forty three. He now trains with resistance bands an he got a total gym which also is heavy into using cables with it an it has a weight bar with his unit. He likes a channel with a mostly ex power lifter named Skylar King, who loves the total gym an the cables that most of the exercises use, an that's his channel all about using the total gym, a lot of different way's to get after it.

    Resistance bands are much easier on the joints! I stopped doing bicep curls for over a year because I would sometimes feel discomfort in one of my elbows. It wasn't exactly painful, but I knew it would get worse if I kept doing it. I recently got resistance bands and now I can do bicep curls again, and it's much more enjoyable knowing I'm not going to tweak my elbow.

But if you do these exercises on my channel with high intensity that will increase your heart rate and develop muscle your metabolism will increase and those love handles will go away

    I did bands for 6 months 2 years ago straight and I got cutter but not much then 6 months ago I got bullworker and u got way more cut in that 2nd month then the 6 months I did with bands
    bullworker is the best for at home cutting of muscles and it burns fat better then anything at home yall should get one
    im not impressed much by nothin else really no more I got a power twister to which is a spring just like bullworker both is underground and way underrated folks should get these 2 items instead of bands or weights
    bullworker is good for old ages to which weights is not good for

    Dear Dave, do you put anything on your bands to condition them? When I bought my Bodylastics last time, all the reviewers said we should put ArmorAll on them, and didn't say anything about washing or wiping it off. I did as suggested, but now I think my bands have deteriorated at a faster rate than my older set did. I recently followed a link where Bodylastics suggested using a different product, telling us to spray it on, work it in with our fingers, and then wipe the excess off gently. They then went on to say if you leave it there, it could damage the bands! If that is the case, why put it on the bands at all? I am of a mind now, with my newest set on the way, to simply leave them alone, putting nothing on them. My old Bodylastic set lasted at least 8 years, and I only changed because I wanted the anti-snap bands. However, one of them has snapped and I have just discovered that another one probably will soon. What do you do with your bands? Thank you for any advice you can give.

    • @DisciplineDave
      @DisciplineDave  Před 3 lety +2

      Please don’t put anything on your bands the only thing that really matters is how humid your environment is. You can get a humidifier (not a dehumidifier) if you live in a dry climate area. If you don’t want to do that I would just replace my bands every year

  • @johnmar1622
    @johnmar1622 Před 2 lety +2

    Free weights is a traditional way before technology is introduced-rubber band. Gym is a good way of socialising people and changing weights. Where rubber band is cheaper but less profitable than running a gym. Training with weights plus rubber is a critical. On other hands rubber band is harder to give an exact tension(load) as compared to weights. It is going to be a big cultural change from weights to rubber. Where as weight is a solid mass as compared to rubber tension. Rubber has less tension on joints compared to weights. Rubber wins because it causes more micro fibre tear in the same exercise as to weights.

    According to Dr Andrew Huberman and Dr Andy Galpin who are researchers at Stanford University and Cal State University -Fullerton respectively, it is a common misconception that you must lift heavy to get big and that is actually incorrect. You lift heavy with fewer reps to get stronger while you lift lighter with more reps to develop muscular hypertrophy. It is the reason why body builders lift exclusively, for the most part, light with high reps to achieve that body builder look. So just a clarification so that people can know some of the info you stated is not completely correct though like with anything, the above statement also depends on other factors
