  • In this Brother Scan and Cut Tips and Tricks tutorial, you will learn how to cut stamped sentiments using your Scan and Cut SDX125. You can follow along with whichever model of ScanNCut you have. The stamp set used for this tutorial is Tag Buffet by Stampin’ Up! I shared tips and tricks on how to cut out the sentiments using Direct Cut. I stamped the Merry Christmas sentiment using Real Red ink onto Whisper White cardstock. The first approach is cutting around the outline or curves of the sentiment. I demonstrated the Pencil Trick so that the 4 parts of the sentiment would be recognized as one. I shared how to use Direct Cut to cut out the sentiments. Then, I shared how to create layers for the sentiments by increasing the outline distance. The second approach is creating rectangles around the sentiments to cut them out. I shared how to use the Painter's Tape Trick for connecting sentiments. This is a substitute for the Pencil Trick and requires much less erasing. When cutting the rectangles, it is good to include an outline distance so that the rectangle is not too close to the stamped image. The third approach involves welding shapes to create a banner. Then, using the Background Scan or Background Scanning feature, you place the welded shape over the image. You cut out a banner which fits right over the stamped image. You could cut an entire page of stamped sentiments this way. You can also save and retrieve your shapes so that you can make these faster the next time. Throughout this tutorial, I shared troubleshooting techniques and tips for getting better results. I also shared several tags, a diaper fold pouch and a card I created using the Tag Buffet stamp set, Tag Buffet Project Kit, Tis' the Season designer series paper and other coordinating Stampin' Up! products. A list of supplies is listed below.
    Settings for Cutting the Stamped Sentiment

    Rotate each 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise

    Align the center of the the shapes and weld them to create one shape.

    Hi Chef! Just found your video searching for something else and, boy, what a windfall! Love the techniques you taught in the video. SO useful. I've wanted pointy ends banners for my sentiments on my cards forever! And never wanted to be bothered trying to draw that shape with pencil and ruler. One question please....how would I cut out a page full/bunch of same stamped sentiments for assembly line card making (like Christmas cards!) Can you point me to a video? Ok, I lied.....a SECOND question...how would you cut out a shaped fold card...like a Christmas ornament with the card fold on one side and the other three cut out ? I subscribed right off the bat. THANKS for the tips

      @PaperedChef  Před 3 lety

      Oh what a fun comment LuniLadi. There are hundreds more tutorials here if you like the one you watched. If you want to duplicate items, you have to use Scan to Cut Data. I cover that a lot. Here is one of my recent tutorials on that topic. Even if you don't have this stamp set, you can apply this tutorial by using other items. czcams.com/video/ZksYXN9moMQ/video.html

      @@PaperedChef Thanks I'll look for them...but....I fall down the rabbit hole when I watch your videos!! I start off looking for "duplicate items scan to cut data" and dooooooown I go! Here's a very important question: How would I cut out a shaped folded card?? (I neeeed this for Christmas. Help!) You know, the folded card is the shape (ie Christmas ornament) itself. Have a video?? Please...I'll go STRAIGHT to it. (I instantly subscribed)

      @@LuniLadi Oh I know about rabbit holes. The concept is to get a shape, duplicate it, mirror it and then weld it. I taught these concepts in my courses but didn’t make a a shape card. I may do that with some mini tags soon but if not, that is the overall concept. I have a cool tree shape I wanted to try a tag with.

    Hi Kim, I wonder if you stamp in red ink, should we use a red pencil to do the "pencil trick"? will it work? Maybe the erasers dont do well on colored pencils? You are sooo knowledgeable! With both Scan n Cut and Stampin Up. This is terrific. thank you.

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching Cindy. I don't have a lot of success erasing colored pencils because they smear. I think that you can try to use the tape trick whenever you have larger sections to connect. That works.

    Hi Kimberley, I just now found your channel and watched this one video!!!! I have a question I hope you can answer. I really am not into card making, I am into journaling and I have ordered many digitals from Etsy sellers of thing to fussy cut out for ephemera, etc. Can you somehow use these machine like the one you are using to cut out the fussy cut items for you???? I have a very difficult time cutting because I have terrible hands due to rheumatoid arthritis and it would be such a blessing to somehow scan the items into a machine and have the machine cut them out for me. I hope I have explained my question where you know what I am asking!!!! You are amazing!!! I can tell you know this machine inside and out!!! Please answer....thanks so much in advance!!!!! Hugs and stay safe!!!

      Hi Nancy, Thanks for your comment. You can cut out SVGs for your machine by first importing them into Canvas Workspace or just by using a USB stick or thumb drive directly. In this course, I cover SVGs and I am also creating another Canvas Workspace course which delves deeper into the topic. czcams.com/video/Zfo4tbojj5o/video.html
