- Very loud! Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning reg. 13-5066 does a full afterburner takeoff from runway 24 for another round of testing during the HX Challenge. During rotation, the afterburner burned part of the runway causing a big cloud of smoke. Followed by Finnish Air Force F-18 reg. HN-410, both fighters under callsign MATRIX1.

F-35 sounds amazing!!
Hornetis 2 ja sama vinku
And it’s super loud as well
1:21 the sound omg
Hornet looks so small next to Fat Amy.
p.s. Did it boil the runway because it was pretty damn wet to be "burned", and the hornet's jetwash also kicked up water, so I doubt it was smoke.
That's a legacy Hornet, ie: a C model. The E/F Super Hornet is much larger than the F-35A. Plus, the F-35A has just as much thrust with it's one engine as the Super Bug's 2 engines and also having substantially longer range than the Super Bug - while being ~2,000 lbs lighter and having a ~15K higher ceiling. Both have excellent AoA capabilities but the F-35's is substantially greater.....
@@Ezees23 Hence my saying Hornet and not Super Hornet. But thanks
The F-35 took half the distance to get into the air, and its climb was far steeper. Good for attack.
You mean in comparison to the Hornet? The Hornet didn't use afterburner, that may be the cause of the difference.
The F35 needs 2,5km runway to takeoff safely. The hornet needed only about 700m.
@@Davoodoox1that depends on the model though
Idk why the hornet didn’t use afterburner
Great video!
Yes it was! He really cooked some water of the runway!
Hyvä video! 👍
Kiitos!
Vilken tur finnarna är van vid höga flygtidskostnader F18 ,nu får de se riktigt höga kostnader med F35 . Men det gör väl inget? Tja?

Gripen skulle ha varit ett mycket bättre val.
Hello, is the F-35 suitable for air defense in the country or is it suitable for ground attack only?
If it wasnt suitable for air defense it wouldn't be a candidate for finnish airforce. The main priority for finnish airforce is air-to-air.
I think its allready settled F-35...
F-35s enjoy an unfair tactical advantage over every other fighter currently in existence in the region in Air-to-Air, including against F-22As. They have been defeating F-22As in Large Force Exercises since 2017, and the F-22A enjoys a huge unfair advantage against everything else.
F-35s can't see each other when in VLO mode, though they have the most advanced sensor suite in the world.
They don't play by the rules that govern 4th Gen BVR metrics, and can bring any number of different tactics to the table that defeat all of the systems currently used on the very latest 4.5 Gen fighters.
He who possesses this technology in significant numbers has the ability to erase regional air forces at will, and there isn't much that can be done about it.
Neither!
@@mrgadget1485 go away troll
Lunerbug-linssit näyttäisi olevan paikallaan, joten ainakaan häiveominaisuuksia ei taidettu tällä lennolla testata.
Luneberg lenses stay in place, and are turned off in VLO mode when tactically relevant. They can also intermittently be turned on and off in conjunction with certain tactics to entrap, lure, and ambush threat air and ground assets when working together that are extremely unfair.
I was hoping for F-18 with Extra bits of Electronic Devices, as we got Hornets o.O
F/A Hornets "with extra bits" are nothing but targets waiting to be shot in a high end war.
Viggen have a real afterburner👍
Nah not even close

Most powerful jet engine in history
BRUH dude are you serious the engine is catastrophic almost +1 minute to hit 1000Km/h
@@Mr98popol uninformed
@@Mr98popol F-35A has one of the best climb and acceleration rates compared to other fighters except the Raptor, when combat-configured.
It has good transonic acceleration like a slick Block 50 F-16C, not that this matters as much as it does for large RCS fighters.
Once you combat-configure a Typhoon or Rafale for multi-mission capability, they get draggy pretty quick. In A2A-only with 1 centerline EFT and 4-6 missiles, Typhoon and Rafale are very slick, but they don't have as much radius or persistence as they do with 2-3 EFTs, and they don't have the FLIR pod.
F-35A has comparable performance to them while carrying much more fuel, 6 AAMs, FLIR built into the nose always, with a vast RF and IR sensor suite that allows it to be a spyplane as well.
In a fighter maybe...
@@fleisbester612 until the GE XA100 is ready.
But that is also for f35
that f35 is a lot louder than that f18
did you see the afterburner on in the F-18 like the F-35? - No, you didn't.
@@ottohonkala6861 So?
The Elgin AFB Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) reports the F-35 at 500 mph was 121 db, & the F-16 was 97 db (a 24 db difference).
A joint empirical test by the AF & Lockheed reported the F-35 at 121 db at 1,000 ft, and 500 mph. While the F-16 at the same speed and height, was 114 db (a 7 db difference).
The Nellis EIS, reported the F-35 at minimum (cruising) power at 1,000 feet was 103 db, and the F16 at 89 db (a 14 db difference).
The Luke Air Force Base EIS, report landing estimates for the F-35, at normal military power (full throttle without afterburner) was 79 db, compared to the 66 db of the F-16 (a 13 db difference).
The Burlington Vermont EIS, reports that the F-35 produces 115 db at ground level, on take-off, while the F-16 produces 94 db (a 21 db difference).
@@gavcom4060 I don't think F-16 and F-18 are comparable in that manner, F-18 has two engines but they're smaller than the one on the f-16. F-35 on the lther hand has an enormous engine, which puts out similar amounts of power as both of the hornets engines combined iirc, so I think they could at full burner at take-off have about the same level of noise. Not sure, just a speculation

The Yankees do loove their engines, but we are buying brains.
What a coincidence. The F-35 has more brains, one pilot can do the work of a two-pilot plane. If your armed forces has an F-35, the enemy treats you way differently and with much more respect.
? the f35 has the biggest brain of them all
Sorry. Here in Europe, mostly, Yankee is positive!
Frank, I spent a year in The States as an

But Frankly Frank: I Think Finland should
by F-35, no dought. But will the beatifull

next fall. She should have given a ride with it. Like Elisabeth Rehn was given with F-18s before we bought them.
i mean oneseater, huge amount kerosinee.
If you ever get a chance to see mass launches during Large Force Exercises, Super Hornets, Vipers, F-15Es, and Hornets all struggle to climb after take-off compared with F-35s. By the end of the runway, you'll see that F-35s have about twice the altitude and are already going faster.
Carrying most of the weapons internally while having such a high thrust engine gives them take-off performance more like a relatively-clean Typhoon or Rafale.

f35 is the worst plane i have ever seen. and it is slow and heavy. and it is only suitable for attacks. not suitable for defense. and only suitable for carrier.
"with weapons" it(F35A) is the fastest fighter in the HX competition. Way faster than the hornets being replaced. Fighter jets' speed with no weapons is not relevant unless the HX jets will be kamikazes.
