In coastal Mozambique we use concrete blocks and not bricks. Wondering wether rising damp wont soak up through the block too and not only through the mortar joints and plaster/render.

Natural stone like granite there is is no rising damp through the stone, in limestone there is, in concrete there is too, when even you have porous and capillary materials there can be rising damp if one side of the material is in contact with water. Theoretically they have calculated that in some specially made porcelain concrete the water could rise kilometers in capillaries before gravity became an issue. Like many have said though rising damp is rarely the issue, and fixing it with injectable shit will not fix it, many things need to be true for rising damp: your building has to have still water in direct contact with your foundation, there has to be failed or no hydro-isolation between your foundation and walls. Easiest ways to deal with rising damp is correct ground angles and water systems around your foundation and working drainage system on your roof and solid long overhangs that move the rain water further away from your walls and foundation. Also many you-tube "damp experts" use equipment meant to measure moisture in wood, those gadgets basically use electric conductivity to measure moisture content in wood, in mortar and concrete and plaster and stone there are natural salts that will make the moisture meter so damp where there is none.
