I love how everyone went on a gaslighting campaign to retroactively convince the internet Gwimbly's a real platformer mascot, with this episode being an epic crossover.

3:51 guess you didn't played much ps1 back in the days ? Gwimbly was iconic, it's really cool to see that they got the right of that character, no wonder they made this the first episode, they wanted to start strong
He might have been a Nintendo kid growing up. Unfortunately, due to rights issues, Gwimbly didn't make it to the Nintendo 64 and only had one spinoff on the Gameboy.
Funny you mention they’re gamers. Zach Hadel, one of the creators of Smiling Friends, is part of a gaming channel called “OneyPlays”.
A few of the voice actors are also part of this channel.

I wish they would remake Gwimbly, such an iconic critter from my childhood.
Gwimbly's Revenge was probably the best one. That one submarine level was bullshit though, almost quit the game because of it.

This is one of the biggest complaints from people who love games, that companies are hoarding IPs like dragons with gold and are refusing to do anything with the IP or sell it to someone who is interested in using it, it's infuriating and a big reason why some people are hoping that big publishers collapse, because it would then release these IPs (possibly in the same way that THQ sold each IP independently to bidders, rather than just getting eaten up by another bigger company like Activision/Blizzard with Microsoft)
