Great review! Thanks for the info about the step down ring.
You bet!!!
Appreciate the examples on stepping down to 82mm filters and the firmware updates. Thanks!
You bet!!! Glad you enjoyed it!
as a photographer only, its a great review, i love the con's and all of them don;t affect me. thanks for the great video!
It is worth it! I use it as my main webcam with the R5 and blew the audience away - even helped me get the new job!
That’s awesome man it’s a great lens!!!
Yes I have. wonderful lense
@@angellondian7628 not at all. Yes there are times where it will pop up, but if you know how to shoot you will be just fine. It was not a deal breaker for me and with that latest firmware it is way better! Pick this lens up, you will be glad you did!
@@JSCreative1 thank you. I will rent it first before the investment
@@angellondian7628 that’s the best thing you can do!
Cool review. I love this lens!
Me too!
Love mine! Great video
Thanks! Ya the 28-70 is amazing!
Hey Joshua, thx for great review 🦾
You bet!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
I got one for my R5 it’s amazing ♥️
It’s an incredible lens!!!
lets goo! looking at this lens or the 24-70 F2.8
It’s pretty amazing!!!
Nice video but which typewrite effect do you use in your video. I like that so much.
nice video man 🚀🚀🚀
Thank you!!
Thanks for the info. The RF 28 -70 F2 lacks stabilization. Will it work for video of indoor college volleyball game video? What if I match it with the Canon R3? Thanks!
Hey Josh, this was a great video. With the step down ring you mentioned will I be able to use my polar pro 82mm vnd with this? That’s the one I bought for my 15-35 rf.
Thank you!! Yup that’s right!! Works perfect for the 82mm 😎👍🏻
amazing review, thanks. Btw, is focus breathing in video been a problem for you?
Thank you!! Yes sometimes the focus breathing is a problem but this lens is so amazing it is work the work arounds!
I’ve been trying to find videos discussing solutions for the autofocus noise. I’d be curious your thoughts, I use a Rhode Videomic Pro+ shotgun mic and I saw a review that said any shotgun mic will still pic up the AF noise. Have you found this to be the case? I plan to shoot a lot of home video/blogging for my family.
Yes it will defiantly pick it up as long as you have it mounted on top of the camera.
Excellent review! I'm looking at this lens for my new R5C. My only concern is that the R5C doesn't have IBIS and the lack of IS on the lens worries me for handheld work. I know that cinema lenses don't have IS but I've used the 24-70 RF and the digital IS paired with the lens IS is pretty rock steady. I do have some camera shake when I've used the Canon 50 RF f/1.2 and I'm assuming the 28=70 would be about the same. Wondering your thoughts...24-70 or 28-70 for the R5C? Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!! Man I would say in your situation especially if you shoot a lot of hand held stuff I would look at the 24-70 because of the IS… the biggest advantage of the 28-70 is the F2 but I think if it was me I would go with the 24-70 due to no ibis in the R5c… How are you liking the R5c? Heard some really good things about it!
@@JSCreative1 Thanks! The 24-70 is the way I'm leaning unfortunately...and I say unfortunately because although it's a solid lens and does have IS (and will produce more stable results handheld IMO), I always feel the image from the 24-70 has zero character. It just always feels flat to me, whereas, everything I've seen from the 28-70 (photos or video) have a look that just pops. It's hard to explain but the image from the 28-70 just looks superior. I am loving the R5C! The video menu is just like using Canon's cinema cameras, having exposure tools while shooting is so great and the XF-AVC codec has been such a time-saver in post. I couldn't edit any 4k60 footage from the R5 without proxies. I have a SmallRig cage and FXLion Nano One battery so I've solved the battery issue and still have a very small setup. It's truly the best hybrid camera I've ever purchased!
@@pbfilms6356 that’s great to hear!!! Hope to get my hands on it one day! Good that you got the battery issues figured out! And you are right there is some really special about the 28-70. Really hard to put into words. It just has that extra punch!
When you put the 82 mm filter on and it shows that small but dark vignette in the corners is that at its widest 28 mm and does the vignette fade out as you zoom in to something like 35 mm? When you switch into video since the R6 does an ever so tiny crop does the vignette still show at 28 mm?
It is only at 28mm.. If you zoom in just a little then it goes away.. When you use video due to that small crop it does go away. I usually just take it off when I know I am going to take photos. 👍
What gimbal are you putting this on?
Hey! Great review! Does it breath the same for all focal length ?
Thanks!! Ya it seems to be the same all the way through.
Sorry if you touched on this but I have a toddler running around 😂 .How do you think this will hold up without lens IS but IBIS only? I’m on a Canon R6. Basically for family videos and photos, both indoor and outdoor. I’m currently using an EF 24-70 F4 version and looking to get more light. I tried the RF 2.8 version and while it was better in a lot of ways than my EF it was hard to justify the cost and hoping the 28-70 F2 would be a much bigger difference over my EF F4. I also use the 50mm F1.8 and that seems to give me enough light in darker home environments so I’m assuming the 28-70 will be drastically better than that even at F2. I don’t like having a lot of beer and like to keep things simple. It’s a very expensive lens but part of me can justify the cost because like you said in the video it will last a really long time… As long as that toddler I was speaking of earlier doesn’t get a hold of it 😬. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
It will defiantly last a long time as long as the toddler don't get their hands on it lol.. I use the R6 and it pairs nicely with the 28-70! The Ibis on the R6 is great as long as you don't go wider the 24mm so it works great with this lens! Really helps to take out all of the micro shakes. I looked at the 24-70 but chose the 28 because of the F2.... I can tell you this, it has such a unique look to it. It defiantly was worth the extra money for me. It is almost like have 3 prime lenses. As long as you look at it as a long term investment then I would say go for it! I can't put my finger on it but it just makes things pop.... That constant f2 is amazing! Just don't let the toddler play with it you should be good lol. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!
Hopping for a V2 with VCM motors...
Did you use any digital IS (in post or in camera) on the example footage?
Ibis and digital was turned on for the example footage but I did not use warp stabilizer in post.
What are your thoughts on the AF motor sounds? Is it too noisy when recording? I have their RF 35mm stm and it’s silent when adjusting. So I was wondering what you thought whenever recording someone speaking in a quiet room like you showed
It can be a little noisy… Best thing to do is set up another audio recording source. It’s there but honestly not that bad.
@@JSCreative1 most of the shooting I do is run and gun so I kinda of need a shotgun most of the time so out in day to day environments, you think it’s okay enough to just record as normal?
@@clintongoss9276 I’ve used it like that and I think it’s ok in most situations!
@@JSCreative1 okay, thank you!
@@clintongoss9276 you bet!!!
will my onboard rode mic pro plus pick up the sound from this lens? or did the latest firmware fix the noise problem?
I would say you definitely will still hear it.
Hello js 😊😊😊 thanks for this video sir . I got my r6 with 70-200 i want to get other lens confused between 28-70 and 24-70 i always shoot videos 😊😊 pls tell me which one to choose
The 28-70 just has a special look to it. I picked it over the 24-70 primarily because of the faster Fstop. Hope this helps!
Do you use gimbal for videos?
If so, which gimbal?
No I shoot handheld, I hate using gimbals. It takes too long to set up! Lol
@@JSCreative1 me too!
Ohh wow! Your videos are good! Love them! I thought you were using a gimbal, but no, I am surprised!
@@JonathanLeon15 thank you man, that means a lot!! It has taken me along time to get to this point! Really appreciate you watching!
Hi Trent, quick question I have RF 85 F1.2 and thinking of switching to 28-70. I mainly shoot portraits and weddings. I will be switching towards to hybrid to filmmaker. Do you think I should switch my 85 to 28-70? I already own the 15-35 & 70-200 F2.8. I currently have R6. Great review! Looking forward for your response
I would say since you have the 70-200 I’d definitely switch up the 85 for the 28-70! This lens will give you way more flexibility and it honestly stays on my camera most of the time!
@@JSCreative1 Thank you! will definitely find someone to switch with. Great video btw
I am using kit len 24-105 and RF 35mm and considering to buy another. What other RF lens do you have?
So I currently own the 85m F2.. Would
not recommend that one for video, the autofocus is way to slow… I have used both the 15-35 f2.8 and the 70-200 F4… Both amazing lenses. I would say either one of those depending on the kind of shooting you are doing.
@@JSCreative1 thanks
That weight though. If I'm doing something on tripod then sure. I wouldn't bother trying this on my gimbal.
Definitely not going to work on a gimbal!
horrible focus breathing, it is extremely annoying specially if you see it in a pc
useless video, almost all lens can give you best quality images, buildquality...bla bla. but what we need while making films is focusing, stabilisation discuss these points
