Stop Taking Suitcases As Your Small Cabin Bag

- As we’ve covered recently, the cheapest way to fly on a low cost airline is to only travel with a ‘small cabin bag’ 👜
👏 THAT 👏 IS 👏 NOT 👏A 👏 SUITCASE 👏
Okay fine, there are a couple that do fit the tiny dimensions but most do not and there’s no better way to alert airline staff that your bag is too big than to be stood in line with a suitcase 😔 which could lead to an extra fee!
That, and by using a suitcase, you’re giving away much needed space to wheels and a handle and so you’re much better using a soft, fabric bag unless you need a case for accessibility reasons 🎒
Also, if you want to risk a bag that’s slightly too big (I do this all the time!) stick to a backpack that you can wear in the queue - I’ve found that staff don’t care so much when it’s hidden away with this! 👍
If you do want to take a suitcase, it’s likely you will need to purchase a ‘large cabin bag’ to take on board with you instead - check out my previous reel about what airlines included these for free! 💰

I find it irritating that the airlines all have different size restrictions. It makes buying carry on and personal travel bags more difficult.
EXACTLY, this is so irritating!
I bought a carry on from Amazon that let's you expand it to adapt to different airlines! Was super useful when I had a Ryanair flight outbound and easyjet inbound 😅
Irritating, but if needed you should buy considering the smallest restriction so it does work with any airline 😉
Can I use a small carry on suitcase with my backpack as the personal bag?
I actually have a small wheeled suitcase that fits in the bag checker. I love when they make me show them it fits and it slides in no prob. 😂
Where did you get it?
yeah where did you get it
@jhaccfc it's just easier, save shoulder pain esp for a family. Why carry when can wheel it? I get loads of summer items in as i use suction bags. I used the aerolite easy jet bag
@jhaccfcdon't feel the need to apologize so much.
They are "easier to carry" as they are on wheels. But I don't see it as a good enough reason. They open only like a regular suitcase, which means you can't just make a small hole and take out your snacks or documents. It's impractical, but some people love it simply for the "fun" of it fitting despite the expectations of the staff
@iDontCheckNotificationsRepliesnot everyone can carry
We need laws standardizing this crap. Airlines are just making it smaller and smaller.
No one's forcing you to fly Ryanair. Feel free to pay triple with BA to bring your suitcase for "free".
@@TheLukasDirector All airlines are doing this. It is not just the discount airlines.
@@jqs17fh baggage included on BA in the price, no extra costs.
If you use the Budget airlines and expect premium, then that is on you.
The budget airlines are great if used how they were intended, a taxi service, getting from A to B, that is it.
If you want all the extra's you can often find real airline work out the same. or cheaper than the budget airlines when you have all the add ons .
I once flew on BA to Spain from Gatwick, with bags included, for 20 pound. cheapest flight i have even gotten. and yes BAGS WERE INCLUDED. i was amazed to find that deal
The small suitcases used to fit-Airlines made seats and underneath storage smaller & then changed the standard for cabin under-seat storage. All while raising prices for airline tickets & charging for any suitcases!!😮
When flying with low cost airlines, I packed everything in my IKEA blue bag
Yes!Brilliant tip! Flew on Asia air: had a backpack that was over the weight limit. They waved me on, while they stopped everyone with wheelie bags and weighed them even if the bags fit.
If you try to put the suitcase in sideways of course it is not going to fit. Cabin luggage has about 40cms width and 55cm length - to the math...!
But how can she make a video then?
If you check the actual numbers you'll see that they don't fit (40 or 45 max for the last airline, the bags are over 50 and 55 in length)
You are supposed to put them in sideways, otherwise the width is to big. Are you daft?
Thing is, those are cabin bags, its the airlines that want to conform to the standards they originally set and not move the goal posts all the time.
Been using the rucksack method for a good few years. I have the proper size 20 litre one. Can easily do 5-7 days. Wear your coat and put stuff in tbr pockets for extra storage if needed.
What’s Rushack method?
@@shirajaiexactly what she described. Use a rucksack rather than a suitcase (and put anything extra in your jacket pockets!)
@@shirajai It's backpack in German.
They go straight up, lady, not sideways, and it will fit
It depends, the EasyJet one specifically shows you have to put it in sideways as she shows in the video, pretty sure the Ryanair one does too!
Straight up will be too tall, lady 😅
ye straight up is always best 😉
They go the way that the sizer shows. It must fit fully without sticking out. Do you hear me? WITHOUT STICKING OUT AT THE TOP
The person thinking go upwards - tell me you've never flown ryanair without telling me you've never flown ryanair 😂😂
Any regular cabin bag (it's the definition of a bag for the cabin...) is fine, even with wheels. 100's of flights, never an issue. Ryanair, EasyJet, Southwest, and most major airlines. Not a single time.
This is especially true on full flights, and it happened on a flight I had with a well-known, disgraceful US airline (as in, the way they treat their passengers).. they told everyone who had a wheelie carry-on suitcase that they had to check them.. my backpack weighted around 6kgs, and they told me it was OK to bring into the plane.. so yes, I'd steer clear of these tiny wheel carry-on suitcases, especially if it contains my electronic stuff.
Some bag manufacturers make wheelie bags to the exact size dimensions of specific budget airlines like ryanair. Staff could still pinpoint the "wheelie" but if it fits perfectly in the sizer, thru have let go?
Why she tried to put the carry on as sideways rather than the usual top down.
I’ve taken a wheeled suitcase as my carry on at least two dozens times on budget airlines. Never had it measured even once.
You've gotten lucky then. Last two flights I took the staff were checking so many bags it was ridiculous
There are bags that fit and have the rollers as well ( they are accepted by those companies ) .I know because I have spinal surgery and I can not carry a backpack .It costs around 21-22 £, it has bigger capacity than a backpack and it's called mini max for anyone who would like to check it out.
It’s such a discriminatory policy. Wheelie bags are so much of a help to people who can’t carry bags easily. The crew shouldn’t, therefore, automatically deem a bag too big just because it has wheels.
Right. Especially when there's so much walking around airports just to get through - and past every shop!
I've been looking at soft bags online that have 2 removable wheels - maybe more helpful?
Okay, the wheels might get muddy, but if you kept gloves or a plastic ziplock bag with you, you could slide them onto or off the bag base without too much trouble.
😂😂
That's what special strollers are for...
It's not discriminatory. Especially when you realize that you do not have a right to whatever size bag you want. There are some suitcases that are barely bigger than a sandwich box, those will be allowed. If you insist on needing wheels on your bag, get that thing.
I don't use suitcases but yes, it discriminates against women who have have less strength to hail their stuff around. My shoulder hurts though my bag is only 5 kgand I am 97.4 lbs but fat men (" with muscles " ) who are 250 lbs the same cabin allowance ?
I actually tried to avoid getting denied by putting my carry-on upside down. Just hold the carry-on by its wheels and put it in that bin. Works well (so far)
I fly Easyjet quite often with no difficulty with the same case as her blue one. Never been challenged.
I always fly Ryanair because they are the only airline that does my route. I just check in my bag and have a small handbag with me on the flight. Reading the small print when booking saves any hassle. Never have any problems.
you are able to remove the wheels on some carry-ons. Just pull straight down and they should come off.
And then the carry-on should fit !!!
With the wheels in your coat pocket ready for reattaching at the other end.
I have no problem with bag sizes as I have not flown abroad since 2007, I hated the hassle at airports, hot weather and the abroad people secretly hate tourists, they just want your money, then goodbye !.
Gaz UK.
If not all, but most of my impressions.
Ryanair are a bunch of chances I avoid them at all cost
Ryan air fly Boing another big reason to avoid em
I got soft bag for laggage. And they charged me 50£ on Wizzair. Even when i’ve been flying with same bag few times before and they never have charged me. First time happened. They crazy
One time i was on a school ski trip and I brought a suitcase a carry on. I thought it was going to fit as I ad measured it before but when I went it did not fit (I was flying easyJet) so I ran whenever I saw a flight person and got on the plane and it fit!!
Yeah some people take oversized everything and it’s not cool when you have to support them either as the cabin crew or the driver.
Thats bcos youre a physically fit person.
An elderly or handicap person would prefer smaller wheeled bag, to carrying 10kg on your back.
Even a 5yr old hv their version of wheel luggage. Its a trade off between weight, size and convenience.
It's unlikely to be 10kg though. I have a bigger backpack (23L) for the overhead lockers and that tends to be 6lg when stuffed full
But in some airlines in other countries... They wont let you squeeze your backpack in for measurement and would say that it doesnt fit, and that it should slide in like the normal trolley bag, and then insist you pay for the luggage.
There's definitely a market for carry-on bags that have retractable wheels. Honestly, I don't know why it's not already a thing. Feels like the suitcase companies and airlines are in cahoots!
There's a brand in the US which lets you take the wheels off - genius! However a big cost to get it over here in the UK, and would only be easyJet friendly!
This is great timing. I was wondering whether to get a similar cabin case in Dealz. It was 40 x 25 x 20 and only costs €20, but I will go back and measure the whole thing including wheels first!
I take your point about a rigid suitcase. Think I'd be better off with a squashable backpack 😊
I bought the hole family the grey picture u showed. It works great. Stupid though on long hall gulf air flight, everyone had huge size of cabin bags…. On one flight they were fully booked overhead, and thankfully my whole family were able to put ours under the seat!
Never had a problem with my Eaglecreek 40l Travelbackpack ❤ Worth every euro!
I usually have a backpack for in the cabin but mum got a small case which said on the label "cabin size" but now I think some have changed the allowed size of case/bags, so now too big
Last flight I was on, lots had those small cases n they ran out of room to put them
Or, just avoid these airlines. I have absolutely no trouble with my cabin sized suitcases 🤷🏻♀️
I have an Underseat Suitcase where you can take the wheels off. Was on EasyJet a month ago, no prob.
Was it a US brand? That's the only one I've seen.
@@CheapHolidayExpert I bought it from an outlet store in Switzerland. The brand is Trolleymaxx...
I always fly with a backpack, slightly bigger than it should be and overfilled, and they never cared.
Happened to me on ryanair. They told me to go buy a bag from duty-free and put some of my stuff inside. Did that and they said I was ok now.
Thanks so much for your video..this has saved me any inconveniance...
The castor of my wheeled bag pop out fairly easily and I put them in my jacket pocket for the measuring exercise and when stowing the bag.
I’m just on holiday with Ryan air. I have a roll on bag that fits in the overhead bins. No problem at all.
Was able to get my suitcase in, no real issue. Just need to measure them in advance. The underseat allowance is quite good for EasyJet - bigger than I expected when full, but yes, a backpack is better.
I purchased a backpack that was TSA approved. Nobody said boo it had an entire pressure compartment that you can put clothing in and it was gigantic multiple Pockets the greatest thing ever
TSA approved means nowt on Europe where Ryanair, easyJet and Whizz Air operate
easyJet allows overhead cabin bags, 56x45x25
I alway use a backpack for my personal item. I shove my purse in there after check in and it’s so easy. Then my arms are free to deal with stowing my carry on.
Just avoid the micky mouse airlines. Much better idea!
I've never had an airline check the size of my carry on.
I’ve seen many times both wizzair’s and Ryanair’s staff going around before the check in, checking bags and making people pay extra for a bag that was too big. Happened multiple times, on multiple different airports
My small rolling suitcase (fits under the seat in front of me) works just fine. Crew has even told me the bag was fine, no need to check when others had to. Mine is also expandable in a pinch. And taking on and off a big backpack kills my "bad" right shoulder and eventually my back.
I much prefer taking a backpack as a carry on but on a lot of flights I have been on lately they order all backpacks under the seats even if its your only carry on. When my legs are very sore I treasure that extra bit of leg room, so considering bringing a small suitcase so I am actually allowed to put it in the overhead.
The airlines mentioned don't include a carry on with their standard ticket, only a small item of the sizes shown. So if you bought a standard ticket it has to go under your seat
lol nope I had one and it didn’t fit under the seat so I tried to check it. The stewardess said what are you doing that fits under the seat!?
Many bags are sold to fit standard IATA cabin bag size, but RyanAir allowed bags are smaller than that.
Rayanair is not an IATA airline
There are hard side bags with removable wheels which are made to fit specific low fare carriers. I have one that is for Spirit and Frontier. I love it.
It's a US product sadly! We'd have to pay extortionate shipping fees to get it over here and it's pretty pricey already / it's too big for Ryanair and Wizz Air even without the wheels 😂
I take a small rolled bag all the time and it’s fine. Did you say “ whizz” Airline? Never heard of that but the ones I fly all except small suitcase on wheels.
Large cube backpack all the way! Week long trips in Europe with three outfits are possible! £20 flights ✨
I have the one of that suitcases for the under the seat, it is actualy showen in the video - the Flight Knight. Just used it last week, no problem at all. It looks so small, smaller that most of the bagpacks, that no one will questioning is it fit or no.
Thank you 👍
As a last resort you can put some of your stuff to the duty free bag to minimize your luggage if it's not a hardshell wheelie. Duty free bag is allowed on board free of charge at least at the Ryanair.
Or your pockets
The editing on this is *chef's kiss* 😄 the ending... 😌
Ditto train passengers. One man with three LARGE suitcases yesterday trying to brick me in where the cycle spaces are and having a go at me with my folded Brompton which is the size of one medium suitcase. Officious little git.
I agree, my rucsac bent and squeezed ok!
I just won’t fly on those airlines
Unfortunately us plebes have no choice cause we're broke
Try to fit it vertically next time. I have cabin bags, and that's not how I measured them 😊
I've been many many times on WizzAir with a Lamonza suitcase which basically looks identical to the blue one. Not even once have I been challenged.
I like the loop you put in the video 😊
THANKS!
Okay this is slightly misleading so those airlines just won’t allow “cabin bags” (for free) only “bags for under the seats”
Fits when you don’t act like a moron and gently rest it horizontally …
My last flight i had to pay extra to check my small bag then watched people bring full normal suitcases and stuff them into the overhead bin. I'm still annoyed 3 years later.
In Australia they go by weight which i think is better
It's been a while since I last traveled by plane, I used to bring a trolley prettu much like those and it used to fit. Did they reduce the size or something? Yet another reason to avoid traveling by plane.
Suitcases are fine, but check that the wheels are included in the measurements.
I highly disagree. As a frequent flyer from Transatlantic to East Asia. Wheels on any bags you have is a GOD Send. Moving to and fro terminals in airport with a backpack is going to kill your back in a long haul. Do yourself a favour and buy a luggage with wheels or a backpack that has a wheel on it.
Never been asked to check my carry ons on any of those 3 airlines
I don't understand when people carry this tiny suitcase instead of just taking a comfortable backpack
Because some people aren't physically fit enough to carry the backpack on their shoulders.
@@phamnguyenductin but they are fit to drag a under size wheel back which is too short for children to wheel without crouching, let alone adults ?
Ok but where’s your blazer from?
your placing in the wrong side🙄
But wait… the small suitcase goes in the bigger section … the one you were trying to put the bag in is for smaller items.
The standard tickets for easyJet and Ryanair only include one small item. If you want to bring a carryon that goes in the overhead lockers you need to pay extra before you board. So she was doing it correctly
@@kimbrolyyyeah I know that. I’m just wondering who actually tries it with a suitcase as their personal item 😂.
The question is, is there insufficient space in the lockers for the bags or is the airline taking the piss?
Turn the bag around! 😅
Then it will be too tall and still unacceptable.
also backpacks are thinner and you don’t need that much protection anyway
Finally someone talking sense into people. One of the most effective ways to spot tourists vs travelers. Travels go with backpacks tourists with suitcases
I put 4 of these bag at the airport because Ryanair wanted extra money, put my stuff in plastic bag and went home
Just put it in the bigger compartment where it belongs?? Wheely bags qre for the paid 10kg carry on, not for free personal item
Just take a backpack. Even if it's slightly larger than the measurements, when they see it on your back they won't question you. With a trolley they will always ask to measure it and you are screwed if it does not fit.
Hi, is there any wiggle room on the 20 cm depth for the cabin bag on ryanair?Mines just over...Ta
Flew with Ryanair million times to several different destination and nobody ever cared about my suitcase.
Your experience is different from others. Last two flights I was on the staff were checking so many bags
Much better to stop flying on these airlines
Why, they are affordable.
@@Answersonapostcard not if you don't get there!
I use them all the time. They work.@@charlesdehavilland2437
@@charlesdehavilland2437 I’ve never not
@@Answersonapostcard That was before DEI - anyways, good luck flying with your diverse and inclusive pilots in the future 🤣🤣🤣
Put me off flying, space it out, saved money, fly less
Flip the bag
Then it will be too tall. It won't fit either way and be airline accepted.
I will avoid these kind of airlines @ all costs
I promise you i wont fly these airlines.
Suitcases(schoolbag) for kids fit perhaps?
Theres the cabin bag, and then the underseat bag. You've got them confused.
Need to have retractable wheels. That's a couple inches right there
Are there some new rules? Cause I’ve been flying few times with RyanAir in 2019 with normal carry on 40*30*55 with no issues
I have a hard suitcase that fits all of these. Let me tell you how to get one: take a measuring tape with you when you are buying. Simple right?
It p**ses me off when I see people on airlines with HUGE carry on....esp in the US. I conform and have bags for each airlines requirements....they dont vary that much. Then I see some **** getting away with a massive rucksack and it just annoys me
She put her bag in sideways and she's talking nonsense.
Ryanair free bag has to fit under the seat in front of you, if you’re just carrying clothes, bit of make up, maybe a pair of shoes - this shouldn’t be a problem, in winter it’s easy also - wear your bulky footwear and clothes travelling.
Why are you putting them in sideways? That would fit straight up
You can way over the measurements with a backpack. I've never been stopped on a Ryanair flight with a backpack and every one has been way oversized. Walk with confidence!!!
Nicely looped, but those airlines are best avoided completely
Those measurement checkers are complete BULLSHIT. If I had to fit my bag 99% of the times it wouldn't fit, but it perfectly fits under the seat
Don't have any problem with AF on every flight
