I did the Roos test and within seconds my left hand goes numb with pins and needles feeling. I told my doctor and he dismissed it outright and said that neuro TOS is so rare its a 1 in a million chance of having that.
That's strange. Neurogenic TOS should be around 3-80 per 1000 people, a lot more than a 1 in a million chance. There's a few other tests you can try like Adsons, wrights, costoclavicular, though you'll need a hand. If it's just a positive test, but it doesn't affect you day-to-day, it might not be an issue.
@@km8088 Sleeping soundly is impossible, my left arm and hand seems to blow up with intense pressure when lying down. Trying to get a second opinion from a neurologist but its taking way too long to get one.
@@stephanM5hey man i know what you are going through. My neurologist thought i had TOS, we did numerous research and i went under 2 mri scans. However than i found out about triggerpoint therapy/dry needling. I trying that out at the moment and i have good trust in it that this finally might be a solution
Ok... Ouch. Well that answers that question. I have a 7cm thyroid nodule, scans showed it pushing my windpipe over to one side 7 months ago and now I feel it squashing something under my collarbone, pain goes through into my shoulder blade and down the outside of my arm. I'd never heard of this so thank you, probably just saved me months of doctor's appointments and scans. I'm on the waiting list for surgery but this test definitely gives me the confidence to ask when I can expect an appointment, thank you! Very helpful
I've been treating neurogenic TOS in my right side for over a year (about 4ish years of symptoms) and I just switched chiropractors (because I moved) and I had to be retested with this test. I failed hard within 45 seconds and my arm/hand didn't stop shaking for hours. Great test to prove how progressed the TOS is, but isn't the most fun when positive. I've still got a LONG road.
great demonstration. I have a question for the test. Which muscle does this test indicate? Scalene pect minor or others. I know wright test is for pect minor and we Roos is for ant med scalene. Thanks bro.
Thanks a lot, also for following! "This test is believed to stress all three intervals (scalene, costoclavicular, axillary) since this position places the arterial, venous and nervous systems in tension." - Watson et al. (2009)
my neurologist mentioned this. 6 years of brachial plexus nerve damage getting worse after work injury. I can barely lift my arm, severe rib pain, shoulder blade winging, emg confirmed brachial plexus damage, chest pain, and I tried this test and my hand started tingling as soon as I got in the position, and in less than a minute, starting with my pinky and ring finger, I couldn't move my hand at all. also have a bulging trapezius right over the brachial plexus on my injured side. 6 years of PT as well. all results from PT wiped out if I move my arm funny.
I get Most of those symptoms after about 20/30 seconds. X ray looks like i have a cervical rib. Mri showed herniation and irregular herniation (which i think is cervic rib) think this is TOS?
I have seen a physiotherapist for months as well as chiropractic wasted thousands of dollars but to no avail, I have had an mri, cat scan and multiple X-rays on my shoulder/scapula region to try diagnose the issue in my shoulder but every time we get nothing back. I have nerve pain day to day in my left arm stemming from my scapula region into my shoulder/clavicle and nerve pain from my scapula down behind my arm into my forearm and sometimes my wrist.. it has put a hault on my training and is mentally starting to ruin me.. I can’t seem to find anyone that can help me or diagnose this issue but I’m wondering if this might be it? Please if anyone reads this & you are aware who I might need to see for this please leave a comment thank you 💜
Wow.. you’ve described all of my symptoms for 3 years now and can’t get a definitive diagnosis or answer. My first mri in 2019 said normal of my cervical spine.. emg showed pinched nerves in neck.. I got a repeat mri a few days ago still waiting on results and I have a repeat emg tomorrow.. hoping for answers, the pain is too much and like you, mentally crushing me. Because it feels like no light at the end of the tunnel, like I’ll never get answers or get it fixed. Did physical therapy didn’t notice much of a difference and can’t afford $33 a visit. Been seeing the chiropractor for years, he says spinal accessory nerve all caused by tight muscles from stress.. my muscles (traps, scalenes all of that are are so tight like rock hard, all day long) so I’m sure that’s contributing and I am the walking definition of stress and anxiety. Feels hopeless
Have you tried linking your arms behind your back and REALLY trying to get a stretch? Sometimes people stop stretching because it 'hurts' but unless you're doing somethiny really really wrong you'll be fine. Especially with the shoulder impingement getting FULL bicep, tricep and pectoral stretches can be quite difficult if you have pain... soldier through you may be surprised.
Not sure in how far Graves disease could affect the result of this test. Anyways, the Roos test produces a lot of false positives (it's positive when we do it as well), so we wouldn't worry too much in your case unless it fits the whole clinical picture of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
Made in to 2 minutes and had to drop my arms. I have been diagnosed with parson Turner syndrome with a normal emg.. wonder if I really have this? Can this cause lateral scapula winging?
I told my doc about my symptoms and he made me do this test. The side I complained about resulted in a cold sensation and then left hand starting to go numb. He thinks it this syndrome causing my symptoms. I cant find any thing similar to what I describe but it happens mostly at night. I get this burning tingling pain that is very uncomfy literally right next to my left nipple towards my armpit and its so very uncomfy. It feels like its right under the surface of my skin in my rib cage. At times I will wake up and my whole arm is on fire but its always that one spot that starts first. Anyone else experience this?
The way I learned it, the test is performed with the therapist pushing the 1st rib down to stretch even more the scaleni and provocate symptoms. Would it be a variant? Or an older description ?
That's why it's important to look for the symptoms we describe e.g: ischemic pain (cramping), heaviness, tingling in the hand and fingers, and possible discoloration all indicative of vascular compromise
To add to our comment from this morning: This is also why this test has a poor specificity (30%), which means that you will have a lot of false positives, meaning for you the test scored positive, but they actually don´t have TOS.
Physiotutors how could i know as a therapist if it was false TOS ? I watched and learned many things for differentiating between cirvical radiculpathy and TOS So , if it was not TOS and NOT cirvical issues , so what is its origin ? Thank you

U can even go to a Fascial Distortion Model Therapist who can help you better
Distortion in fascia is not mentioned in MRI
It can be TOS, Triggers in scaleni muscles, problems with AC joint, impingement of the shoulder
Acupuncture can help you to manage your pain
