I initially clicked on this to see where the catch can is installed, so 👍on that. I change my oil on all my rigs, dealerships don't touch my vehicles. BUT, the comment below got me to keep watching and, omg....! Lol, the oil filter trick blew my mind too! Never in my 45 yrs have I seen or had someone show that. Good job and thanks for the vid.

Thanks for the video I just ordered a 24 GMC 2500 HD 6.6L gas and can’t find many videos on maintenance so I appreciate it.

Thanks for the video. Just a couple of tips. If you turn the jug of oil so the front or back of the jug is facing up when you pour it then it won't gurgle and you don't have to puncture a hole in it.
Also, might as well fill the new oil filter with new oil and rub some new oil on that gasket while you are at it.

informative video for sure. I dig the oil filter trick but one thing I don’t agree with is lubricating the filter gasket with the old oil. Theres far too much of a chance of debris. I open the new oil and pour a splash in cap and use that to lube the new filter gasket.

This is quite possibly the most comprehensive oil change tutorial I have ever seen. Awesome trick with the oil filter drain…..why I never thought of that blows my mind.
What are your thoughts on a catch can for this 6.6. I’m hearing it’s not a bad idea being it’s direct injection. Let me know how you feel about it! Thx.

After seeing how much oil my catch can “catches”, I would definitely recommend one.
I’ll do another video showing how many ounces it catches between oil changes.

Oh yes, catch can on all DI engines if you can. That oil passes buy the intake valves and eventually carbon builds up on them (look up videos on that). I have a '17 High Country 6.2 and a '21 Camaro ss and I put catch cans on both.

Im really looking at buying an L*T, Im sick of the expense and the maintenance of the duramax. What do you get for gas mileage with your truck?

13-14 around town. 15-18 on long hwy drives. I lost about 0.5 mpg when going to 37” tires.

Everything is mirror image. Interesting. Righty-tighty is all reversed... but the ball cap was the giveaway.

Have you experienced excessive oil consumption with that engine, I was looking at buying a gm 2500 truck with the 6.6l gas engine and have been reading about it consuming excessive oil up to the rate of 1 qt/1000 miles which concerns me a bit, gm even issued a service bulletin about it.

I haven't noticed anything excessive. My catch can will catch around 4-6 oz in 7,000ish miles. Other than that, I'm not seeing any consumption. Defiantly not at the rate you mentioned above. I know the 1/2 tons are having issues but I think its related to the fuel management system shutting off the cylinders. Thankfully, the L8T doesn't have that feature.
I use Amsoil synthetic oil. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Do you trust those ramps with a big heavy truck like that? I was thinking about getting some for more clearance.

I think they’re rated for 12,000 lbs and they haven’t failed me yet! I trust them. Just make sure your tires are centered on them.
