As a matter of practice, I have changed my oil change procedures to now run an Oil Analysis mid-oil cycle, just to make sure the oxidation, additive package and viscosity are not showing extensive degradation, where upon I then decide how my longer I am going to run the oil, eg, about 2k miles on a 4K oil cycle.

I have a 22 Silverado 2500 LT with the 6.6 gas and use Valvoline 5W30 synthetic. It has a good additive pack and it's not too expensive. I buy the garage boxes directly from Valvoline. I use a Purolator One filter and change it every 3 months/3,000 miles. I have 24,000 miles on it. No oil consumption. I absolutely love the truck.

Blackstone is amazing. I started doing oil samples back in the late 90's with them on my vehicles. I really got into it in the early 2000's when I joined up with BITOG and started posting them on that site. I haven't sent them one in probably 15 years now but they are amazing. Great video sir and thank you for posting this!

I went with Castrol Edge. That's what I ran in my Refreshed 1500 6.2 for 20k miles. Seemed good. Did break in on the truck, and it never used any oil or had any problems. So I went with Castrol Edge on the 6.6 gas also. Like you mentioned, it's one of the few that specifically states Dexos-1 Gen3.

As long as the oil is ILSAC GF-6 and API SP , it's fine. Direct injection engines really need that SP rating. The GEN 3 is just a new spec for lower viscosity for " better fuel mileage" . Just more CAFE bs. As long as your oil is SP rated to stop low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), you are all good.

I use the same Mobil 1 truck and suv/ ac delco PF63 combo in my 24’ Silverado 2500 L8T. My reasoning for the Mobil 1 is it is easy to find, reasonably priced, meets all the specs, and is the only gas oil I could find that didn’t have a 10,000 lbs gvwr limit on their warranty. My last L8T I ran QSFS. Worked great as well. It just gets hard to find at times and limits the gvwr for their warranty. I’m confident any Dexos 1 Gen 3 would do fine.

Have a 2024 Sierra 3500HD PRO 6.6 gas, with FlexFuel option. Changed my filter at 1500, and will do the oil at 3000. Noticed some larger metal particles in the oil from the filter, along with plenty of smaller ones. Looks like the filter is doing its job. I refreshed with the Mobil1. Been using it for years. Used to use ARCO graphite, but haven't seen that in ages. Highly recommend installing an oil catch can, to keep oil vapor from coming in on the backside of the intake valves, as it's a direct injection engine. Mine has already pulled a few tablespoons of oil.

My only comment would be I used to change oem fill with Mobil 1 at 1,000 miles in my Ford 4.6L and Chevy (now 21 and 12 yrs old respectively). I now would do the first change between 500 and 750 miles, not 1,000 or 1,500 miles. Just think it best to get any start up wear particles out ASAP. Didn’t do oil analysis back then but may if I ever get a new ICE vehicle.

I don’t have that engine. I have the 2.7L eco boost twin turbo in my F-150. And Valvoline line did it good. Quiet engine. Smooth operation. Really impressed with the additive package in it for the cost. I also use Pennsoil Ultra Platinum and I think it would work as good if not better than anything on the market. It has infinium molybdenum in it (tri-nuclear). Ferrari uses it and Chrysler uses it in the Challenger 850 horsepower version of the Challenger. The mobile Truck and SUV has probably the best package out of any of the Mobile ones on the Market and the only one I would consider using.

@@billydoesfloors great question. I am not 100% sure on the answer. On their website it talks about their product exceeding the protection level for Dexos1 Gen 2 (not Gen 3) by 72%...that's a lot. But, that makes me think it's not officially Dexos1 Gen 3 certified, but perhaps their own team's testing. My understanding is Amsoil is kinda the premium of premium oils, so their protection is unquestioned essentially such that they probably don't need to be officially certified for folks to use their products, even where Dexos1 Gen 3 is required. I've heard mostly all positives with Amsoil though, but haven't used personally...? But you'll have to report back and let us know if you find out otherwise.

I’m just curious, GM provides a first full service for free on all new models. Why would you not take advantage of the service and have them go over it to look it over ?? With records from the dealer if warranty work Is needed later it’s less of a question on a repair if it’s recorded. Owner service isn’t looked at as factual service if warranty is needed on engine repair. Writing this in yourself is not believable when the argument comes up when it’s broken.

Great question! For me it's a personal preference, a matter of time and trust. Last time I took my 2019 Silverado 3500 to GM dealer to utilize free oil change it came back with oil dripping all over the frame and suspension and DEF fluid splashed in the engine compartment. Plus factor in driving to/from and waiting...over 90 minutes when I can do the same job in under 30 min and know that it was done right...again just a personal preference :)
