- Dog bites can happen for a lot of reasons, from a puppy in the teething stage nipping you to an attack by a strange dog on the street. A lot of times dogs can even bite those that are closest to you creating a disconnect in your relationship. In this limited series, Cesar Millan helps health & fitness instructor Rrayyme and her boyfriend Nathan with a common issue pet parents have regarding dog aggression and dog's biting.
Ara is a rescue who has been attacking her owner’s boyfriend. She is a perfect dog when her owner, Rrayyme, is around, but when Nathan, her boyfriend, enters the equation it’s a whole different story. Ara shows aggressive and over protective behaviors. Nathan hasn’t touched Ara in 5 months. Rrayyme and Nathan are at an impasse and don’t know what to do. Let’s see if Cesar Can Solve the Case.

Ok, I take it back about Caesar’s graciousness only being this for the dogs sake. Cesar is so intelligent and so intuitive and caring that he knows if this guy can pick up any of the wisdom he’s trying to teach him… It will help the guys life all around. I apologize for lacking so much, Grace, but I’ve had this type of alpha male in my life and watched him destroy so many relationships with people and pets because it was always about him and what made him happy and what made him angry. To this day, his almost grown children are still afraid of him.

I honestly feel like he was fed up with working with the dog for so long the best way he knew how and not getting any results. It's gotta hurt when all you wanna do is help and love a dog and the dog isn't responding, or because what you're doing isn't good enough for that particular dog. I think the boyfriend might've just been exhausted with the entire situation and didn't know what else he could do. If I had a rescue dog and I was trying to get them to a place where they felt comfortable around me and in their home with me, and it wasn't working no matter what method I tried, I'm sure I would feel awful like I failed the dog.

I would definitely not go out with someone like that, but I celebrate their improvement! I hope he stays calm and patient and loving towards the dog. He did a good job at the end, being there and following instructions shows already shows willingness, the dog noticed and accepted him.
I feel like he does want to learn, but he was disappointed he couldn't make progress with her on his own. It looked to me like he felt neglected by her and needed to get over that. Good of him for taking on the challenge! She's not neglecting him, just the energy he was sending wasn't right for her.

I used to watch Cesar on The Dog Whisperer, it seemed to me that most of the time, it was the "owners" that needed the correcting, not the dogs.

Not really. He said he works with mostly shelter dogs/abused dogs and men are usually the ones who abuse dogs the most so a scared dog will bite. I've been bitten plenty of times myself.

@@Mellowcatden it's so weird to see people act like all dogs can change and then when a human does something wrong they're like oh he is never going to change. humans are pack animals just like dogs and we experience trauma, nervousness and anxiety just like dogs. He is obviously using the phone to hide his nervousness. the guy has been bit over and over and it's obviously tense around the dog. Little by little they need to trust eachother. him being the smartest one needs to be the one guiding the dog.

I made the mistake of hiring a control freak trainer for my dog. He was a "used" dog when he came to me. He was big and I paid a groomer to do his giant nails and he was fine until a groomer hurt him. I had always done my dog's nails without problems. Ilt got to the point the vet had to put him completely under to cut nails. A bit expensive. It took me awhile to even get him to let me hold his feet. I hired a trainer to help. After several visits at the house, we met at the vet with, I thought, the idea to get him ok with the vet tech and clippers. Trainer insisted he cut the nails. Long and short the dog became agitated and snapped. I suggested we either quit or muzzle. Trainer said no. I was distracting him with food. He snapped at the trainer again. This was a dog who was Never people aggressive. Trainer was po'd the dog snapped. He jumped up and picked the 115 on dog up. (This dog could not be picked up, likely due to poor socializing as a pup) Dog was terrified and screaming. Then he snapped at the trainer and bit him. Darn near took his finger off. The guy needed surgery. I felt awful. After he left to get help, I talked to the vet and the vet tech as I almost had the dog out down then and there. Both emphatically felt it was the trainer's fault for his aggressive reaction to the snapping. The did have to report the dog for the bite. In our county, you get one free bite. Poor pup never got over it no matter how patient I was, I could occasionally nip a nail.

The bf and the dog are the same: both tense and aggressive due to fear. There is no way to watch his interaction with Lorenzo without seeing his fear and his overwhelming drive toward self-protection. We all get like this when we have been hurt in the past. Or “spit in the face.” His exterior isn’t “tough” it’s hard. And hard things are often really fragile. I feel for the guy. And understand him. The most important thing Cesar did was provide a model to show there’s a different way of being strong. There’s a way to be calm that isn’t passive or weak. This was a hard episode to watch but ultimately incredibly instructive and moving. Thank you, Cesar.
I hope this guy took Cesar’s great advice. We all need work, help, encouragement.
I hope he looks back and references the words of this lifetime opportunity. What a gift he was given. I hope he lives up to the potential he can reach.

Chill out lmao. Of course there was something wrong with the dog, it needed to be trained properly by an experienced trainer. The dog is not innately flawed, it probably had a horrible experience with men and doesn't trust them. Yeah, the guy is a tool, but your comment is pretty stupid insinuating that the dog has some sort of special powers to read the guys true human nature, or whatever.
Sometimes people are naturally sensitive, sometimes people can be naturally tough. Lessons like these help to remind me, you can show a soft side, and showing that softer side doesn't mean you're weak. In fact it is the opposite. Sometimes when life is tough on you and that 'worked' for u, you think the same thing applied to others will work out well too. But sometimes tough love isn't always the key, and hopefully he learned how to be more soft and sensitive. I have a feeling, even though he was acting macho and wearing sunglasses, towards the end he was feeling emotional about the progress, but hiding it. I wish them well on their journey.

I love how you were teaching the husband to be more relaxed.
He seemed jealous and bitter that the dog bonded with her and that his previous experiences weren't helping him. People view all aggression as the same, but when the core emotions aren't identified you don't know the right techniques. He may have been used to aggressive bully dogs who need to be put into their place and learn to calm down. Their dog was afraid of him, and he probably used the same techniques and made her go from afraid to terrified thus defending herself and running from him. It's hard sometimes to bond when we dont feel loved by pets, but we have to be the ones to stay calm and work through our emotions before they can learn to work through theirs! Hope he chills out more and reduces his angry alpha energy

The dude is a douche, but humans are just like animals and sometimes it seems Cesar disregards that. If a dog had been previously kicked by a horse, it would not trust horses. It would lead ir to think horses are aggressive.
Which although that may seem dumb, its actually an evolutionary commonality between really any animal with any intelligence. Its what keeps u alive in the wild when. U have to learn on ur own what will and won't hurt u. We are the only animals that can try to overcome that. But it is a reasonable instinct.

Dude, if your dog shits itself near you, you should really rethink if the problem is the dog or you. Clearly, the dog is fine with the girl who is just super calm and gentle.

@ssiebold1 I disagree. I think they were all there to learn as a unit and strengthen the bond of their pack. I'm sure him training solo would have worked too but it seemed like this guy wasn't fully into it and wasn't taking in what cesar was telling him to do. I think the gf can remind him how to embrace calmness whenever he's not gentle with the dog.
