I find using a double haul really helps this rod get much more distance without over burdening the rod tip, which is always a concern with fiberglass. This was the rod that effectively forced me to learn to double haul and I'm so thankful for it. It's a really fun rod to play around with

I bought an 8’6” 5# for my grandson and it was so much fun 🤩 I picked up a second one for myself! Great fun and inexpensive rods. Used 3 years now.

I use an Eagle claw 6' 6" telescopic fly rod for fishing from my sit-in kayak. Works great and packs away nicely when not in use.

Late to the thread here but I just purchased this rod on a whim while at a local outdoor store here in Colorado. The 7’ 4wt for a back up and extra to let my kids learn on. I am a fan of Glass and own a Butterstick 5wt paired with an Redington Zero reel and an Orvis Superfine Glass in a 6wt paired with the Battenkill click Pawl. It’s what I learned on and all I’ve ever used. I slapped on the Courtland Peach Double Taper 444 line… ( The line cost twice as much as the rod.) It’s absolutly absurd how accurate and fun this set up is. Blew my mind. 💯

I have used the Featherlight for several years now, fun inexpensive rig. I use it most on small creeks here in MN catching River chubbs… jump like brookies, but not table fare! Nice review!!

Well done video! Thanks for reviewing equipment like this. I'm a long-time fisherman, but just getting into fly fishing. This rod seems very affordable and great for everyone.
I'd really like to see a video or get your recommendations on a full set-up using this rod. (Reel, Line, etc.) I'm in AZ. and have fished the Salt river a few times but not with a fly rod.
    Thanks for your reviews!

Such an enjoyable rod to cast and to fish. I have the 7' 4wt and the 8' 5/6. Both are work horses.

What line do you like to use on the 7’ 4wt? I just got that one and very curious as to what fly line people are using and enjoying

    • @RoryLynott

@quentinvaught5554 I've tried a Scientific Anglers MPX 4 and an MPX 6. MPX lines are rated a half size heavy. Both worked well but I liked the 6 best. I'm sure a 5 would be great. I've just lawn cast them at this point. Glass is so forgiving, a working man's dream. The build on my 8' 5/6wt that I bought from circa 2015 is certainly better than this new 7' 4wt. The ferrules seem a little squirrely on the 7 footer as well. But for 25 bucks I won't quibble too much.

I put the Courtland Peach 444 Double Taper on my 7ft 4wt and it’s impeccable. It loads the rod so well and it really does allow you to get a little bit of a farther cast if you need. It lands soft and is very supple.

@nathancottrill1363 That's awesome! Love it. Did you go with the 4wt DT peach? Cortland Peach on glass, so good!! I had a 8' 7wt with a 6wt DT Peach. It was fantastic. I offeredfor an acquaintance to borrow it and never got it back.

Would you recommend the Redington Path or the Piscifun sword?

    • @landonbohinc8146

I’ve heard the reel and the line on the Redington path is meh. For the Piscifun I would buy the sword reel, rod and then everything else also from Piscifun.

Ya glass and mix glass or slow action rods aren't going to punch through wind the same way as graphite.
