    This video is showing how you can rebuild the rear brake caliper with parking brake. In this particular case we have a Lucas brake caliper from VW Sharan, 38mm piston diameter. There are many calipers that are the same but in different cars like Passat Golf Audi etc. Video is showing how to change old seals and brake piston.

    Best video I’ve seen on vw similar calipers! Is anyone familiar with 2007 Vw gti caliper and is the shaft locked together like his in the video? The part where he says it can’t come apart. Thanks in advance as I’m trying to powdercoat my calipers.

    Some slider pins are different on leading and trailing side of carrier , so watch for that and make sure to put them back the same way or you can get noises, also sometimes the carriers themselves are very slightly asymmetric, so are different left to right , but it can be hard to spot with the naked eye, so best to keep track of which is which when you take parts off car .

      @@Italjohn Just a little red rubber grease. Completely compatible with DOT4 or the grease supplied as it is on the piston anyway.

  • @ronplucksstrings7112
    @ronplucksstrings7112 Před 3 lety +1

    Very nicely done and presented. I am fanatical about applying graphite filled anti-seize to the bleeding nipples because I have seen too many corroded in place...I also prefer to apply graphite filled grease on the sliding mount pins (I like this even better than simple grease which can be displaced or cooked away). Thanks and Greets from Connecticut!

    Has anyone ever had a problem with the c clip that holds the assembly in the caliper popping off? I assemble the calipers and test the lever and the c clip pops out internally. I’ve been struggling for 5 hours and I can’t figure it out. The assembly is in with the alignment dowel, everything is assembled correctly. Am I losing it?

    • @Italjohn
      @Italjohn  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The C clip is a very tight fit, so you have to be sure it's inserted in it's grove.

    Question for anybody that has worked on GM cars: is there any way to remove the mechanism inside the caliper piston, it does not have a seeger ring or any sort of removable retaining ring, the mechanism is just held in place by a spring that sits in a groove. I honestly have no clue how they even assembled it, i'm stumped ...

  • @maurizioalfieri602
    @maurizioalfieri602 Před 3 lety +1

    What can be the reason why brake is not completely released when you release hanbrake? A general cleaning could fix? Or maybe that part that you can't disassembly has to be replaced?

    • @Italjohn
      @Italjohn  Před 3 lety

      Usually the problem is a sticking piston. I will recommend you to take the caliper apart and check the pistion.

    Takk for tips på deler. Fant repkit til min subaru på biggred ebay uk. Veldig bra how to video. Selv en gammel bilmekaniker fant nytte i dette. Vi overhalte aldri bremse-caliptere med parkbrems-funksjon på det verkstedet jeg jobbet så dette var faktisk veldig interessant.
    Tror jeg går for pulverlakkering på mine caliptere. Har du tips på hvor man kjøper pulver i norge? Fikk tak i noe billig pulver på ebay men det var av dårlig kvalitet. Kunne virke som om det var overskudd fra lakkjobb feid opp fra et gulv og pakket for salg igjen. Hehe. Never again...
