    I've had mine for a little over a week and I have 2 gigs in a 4 more this week. On small stages it's on the floor tilted back at an angle behind me and on larger ones it's on an amp stand facing out like a regular amp. With everything going through the house there's a huge gap in the middle of the stage sound-wise and running it this way covers up that gap. Not to mention as a regular amp for my Helix it really looks and sounds great. It's proving itself superior to my Headrush FRFR112 and my Powercab 112.

    Nice to see reviews on the Tone Master FR12. All of the focus has been on the Tone Master Pro, but all I am interested in is getting a great monitor for my modeler! I love that you can adjust the settings without adjusting the preset. That has several great uses! You can tune to a stage without affecting the FoH, you could use it at home to quickly try eq changes before deciding to program them in, or you can give yourself an eq mix that sounds better to you, but doesn't work as well in the mix. They are light and affordable. I need to find a place that has them available to try in person. Thanks for the upload.

    Change the TL084 chips for OPA4227PA chips and the hiss is completely gone. The Hiss is due to the cheap chips in the 3-band EQ tone stack, cascading op amps. Using OPA chips completely cures this and turns this already great amp into just about the best FRFR available.

      @@markadrien815 the chips are soldered in, so you have to know what you’re doing, and you have to be very careful with disassembly. I put in sockets. Whole thing took me about 40 minutes.

    What does the 1000w equate to in comparison to a tube amp in volume?

    • @yessitsme6884
      @yessitsme6884 Před 8 měsíci +2

      The 1000W is dishonest. Tear downs have confirmed the woofer is rated for 150W and so is the amp for it, the tweeter amp is 32W IIRC (yes it's bi-amped) RMS vs peak power I guess. 180W RMS is not too shabby honestly.
      In terms of volume, remember this is the same size as a Hot Rod Deluxe and will happily gives you the same volume, although you can get a much firmer low end due to being closed back. Let's just say I can easily get a volume that will have my bandmates ask me to turn down. If you want palm mutes that shake the walls, you may want to get a pair though, physics laws still apply.

    • @stevesheroan4131
      @stevesheroan4131 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I can’t believe that in two months since this question was asked that nobody has answered with “2 inches” yet.
      That being said, the best I can ascertain from many reviews/demos is that if you are accustomed to a 2-4 speaker cabinet you’ll probably want to lean towards the FR-12, and (ironically) if you prefer a single 12” speaker you should consider the FR-10.

    Ive got a demo day lined up with one of these coming up next week. Im going to a/b this versus the headrush 112 frfr... The ONLY complaint ive heard is that there is a fairly high noise floor when this unit is on.... question : did you notice that issue/ hiss and was it make or break for really clean tones? Thanks if u can answer

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  Před 8 měsíci

      I’d love to do exactly that and compare it directly with others.
      There was a bit of noise, however it didn’t budge with the volume up or down.
      As in it was the same across all the volumes.
      For me it wasn’t that big of a deal, & I didn’t really think anything of it. However I can understand why others would be unhappy with it.
      Would love to hear your thoughts when you try them both out.

      I listed to your other videos with mic in room and you don't have the same hiss sound I hear here. I can hear the noise floor of the amp but it's not a hiss like this video, which is the same hiss hz as mine.

      @DaveWebbMusic  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @AnthonyBencomo I can guarantee you that it’s from the laptop. I’ve done it a few times and only realize afterwards, like an idiot! But lesson learned… 🙄
      There is definitely noise from these Cabs, but it wasn’t the cause for this one. You’ll notice it isn’t there while I’m playing. It’s my fault, and doesn’t help the point.
      It’s a real shame that these aren’t quiet, because other than that I thought it was great. For me, it was livable but I can understand why others don’t like it.

    Hissing at low volume is not normal. Hissing at high volume can be thing. I’m using a PA speaker with a Fractal with zero hissing, even when its cranked. There are reports on various forums of many people returning the FR12 due to hissing in the 38 db range. its irresponsible of you to tell people that the FR12's hissing is normal.

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  Před 8 měsíci +5

      Perhaps hissing was the wrong word choice, but what I said was accurate, which is why I mention my studio monitors in the same sentence. I can hear them when they are turned on, just as I could hear that the FR12 was turned on.
      Irresponsible? No. My channel and my videos are based on what I experience, & to me at that moment, the comparison was fair.

    • @BamTechVids
      @BamTechVids Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@DaveWebbMusici really wanted to like/buy this cab but the many reports of zero volume hiss is concerning. in your video you said hissing at low volumes is normal. the FR12 is producing a excessive hiss in some cases with the volume at zero. that is not normal. in some cases users say the hiss is minimal. on the fractal forum they're posting that about modding the EQ board to remove the hiss. Fender clearly has an issue with some of these units. you can hear FR12 hiss comparison to a QSC PA speaker with volume set to zero

      @@DaveWebbMusicdon’t listen to what I’ve people like this. Your review was great and I feel more than helpful in allowing one to make a decision on whether he wants this product or not.
      I have been playing for over 20 years and most of that has been with real tube amps and let me tell you something you already know. Tube amps when not being played are the noisiest piece of gear on every stage.
      The pickup sounds from radio stations, tv channels, neon lights, smoke machines, bad ground loops, dirty power, and bell if you move an old tube amp with reverb, that tank will sound like a earthquake just occurred. So if your amp is next to the subs or a the kick drum or the bass player you will have “extra” spring noises all night.
      We would never call amp reviewers irresponsible for not disclosing that info.
      So don’t worry about guys like this, they haven’t gigged enough to understand why people actually use modelers and it’s because they don’t faithfully reproduce amps and cabs while still having the closest thing to the original character of those amps.

    • @michaelwilson2497
      @michaelwilson2497 Před 8 měsíci

      Dude. Even in my home in a practice space, low hiss/noise isn't acceptable. I agree.
      If a noise gate can't clear it, there's bigger issues.
      Having said that, this thing has some dialbility.
      But if the gate has to be cranked, even all digital, it will kill sustain and tone.
      I will have to actually field test it. But not too many stores have it yet.
