    Unbelievable how Cort is still being looked down on by so many. They build high-end instruments for other brands for decades and their own products are amazing. I play a Cort A5 Ultra Ash wich instantly became my No1 bass. Punches WAY above its price.

    I had some doubts about Cort, but a year ago I bought for my nephew a X series in a 2nd hand market place.
    It was a nice surprise to notice how really good Cort build guitars, even in an entry level. After a pick ups upgrade and polishing the frets the guitar became in a real shredding machine.

    Cort always does a good job. They made every 'foreign' guitar til China and Indonesia started making them. I have no problems with Chinese nor Indonesian luthiers but Cort made some of the best Epiphone stuff out there. I always check out a Cort if I see one for sale. 🤘🏼

    • @seanbaines
      @seanbaines Před 6 měsíci +6

      Cort is South Korean owned, but the majority of its production is in Indonesia, with factories in China and Vietnam as well. Their head office and R & D is in South Korea. Not sure how much guitar manufacturing they do there now. There were a couple of controversial plant closings about 15 years ago that, I believe, led to some labour bad blood and some legal issues. The majority of their guitar production is via their Cor-Tek subsidiary that makes guitars for other large brands, like PRE's SE line, some Ibanez and Squier models, etc. Most of that is in Indonesia.

    • @jjerg
      @jjerg Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@seanbaines you're 100% correct. I'm an old guitar playin' dork who's 1st 'real' guitar was a new Korean Cort made 1989 Epiphone Sheraton. I bought it brand new at Guitar Center and its unfortunately long gone. 😔
      I still own and play a Conklin 7 string made in the Cort factory in 98, that I also bought new.
      All I'm saying is it doesn't have to be made in the US to be a quality instrument. The Asian companies make some dope stuff and Cort's long history of solid manufacturing makes it obvious that when they opened factories in Indonesia, they had the staff and knowledge to train the new factories. My only gripe is the Indonesian and Chinese luthiers and linemen don't get paid enough for the quality guitars they make. I'd rather spend $1,000 on a LTD, Cort or a Chinese Ibanez than 3 grand on a Gibson or American Fender. 🤘🏼

    Cort or rather Cor-Tek, which is their subsidiary, pretty much manufactures most mid-budget guitars on the market.
    Ibanez Premium, PRS SE, ESP/ LTD, Schecter, Yamaha, Squier etc. etc.. pretty much all of them are build by Cor-Tek factories in Indonesia.
    The parent company is actually from S.Korea and is scummy af. They were under investigation for corruption charges, mistreatment of workers, numerous violations of Korean labour laws, closed down 2 of their Koreans factories and laid off hundreds of workers without prior notice.
    It is implied that they bribed a bunch of judges in the Supreme Court of S. Korea and that's how they got away with relatively light sentences for all the things they were accused.
    Not sure if they continue these buisness practices in Indonesia but I wouldn't be surprised.

    I do watch and love Darrell's videos for many years. Nevertheless, his obsession with larger pots fills many of the great videos. Every electronic expert could tell you that it is NOT always the "size that matters", it is the quality.
    Hal sensors are way better than pots anyway, their sizes are much smaller but if we stick with traditional pots, the quality matters, size is secondary. Same as pickups, a large pickup is not necessarily better compared to a smaller one...

    i've seen a lot of YT guitar vids in the last couple of years where a guitar will be super high end everything but small pot size. which the YTer points out as odd. i suspect that "modern" mini pot tech makes them highly durable when compared to the same size pot 10 or 20 years ago. what i'm saying is i think at this point the smaller pot, particularly in a high end guitar, is no real indicator in performance and longevity.
    the only thing i have to base that on is the HUGE advancements in guitar technology and quality in the last 10 or even 5 years, so i could be completely wrong.

    the evertune bridge is great for sure but its also overpriced and overhyped just because a quality fixed bridge is most likely not causing any string tuning problems at all, a tremolo system is a different story..it also makes every guitar with it very pricey..but this guitar is priced surprisingly well with "just" 1K for all the amazing specs and pickups beside the evertune bridge, so maybe its worth a try if you want y´to check out if the evertune stuff is worth its money. cheers 🎸🎸

      The evertune is an interesting gadget, and may be good for people who dont actually know anything, technically, about their guitars, but im all set! I dont have any tuning issues with any of my guitars. Not even my stock Fender style trems. When i pick up one of my guitars and a string is a little sharp or flat, i tune it. No need for fancy fixes. I feel like the evertune is going to widen the gap between players and technical knowaladge of their instruments.

      Even if it is a more expressive than a strat 2 point tremolo floating but not more expressive than a floyd rose ,i will prefer the hipothetical evertune floating bridge

    Someone help me understand why dime sized pots are bad. A pot is a variable resistor, as you turn the knob the resistance is proportional to the position. I don't see how small vs large is a bad thing, and small doesn't mean it's not of good quality. Larger pots and the control cavity needs to be larger. Would you have noticed if you never popped the back off and took a look? That might be the topic of another video.

  • @andyh3277
    @andyh3277 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Darrell, you need to wise up on pot size. Bigger pots does not mean better quality. I've been in electronics for 40 years and some miniature pots I've seen will blow you away. Don't get swayed by certain brands either. Are the high end guitar pots used in the medical, space or military sectors? Take care man.

    My apologies if this is a stupid question as I know almost nothing about this kinda thing but here goes:
    Could you just buy full sized pots and have them fitted or would such a thing be impractical in terms of costs or some other factors that I in my ignorance know nothing about?
    Hopefully someone realises its a genuine question.

    It's a nice guitar but it's priced like a prestige brand. I cant see why someone would bay $1400 for this, when that same price point gives them so many options.
