The smoke screen strategy as always been my favorite ever since I saw someone pulling it off in a Yugioh tournament.

That Hibernation tech is actually pretty sweet against Rhinos. Outside of bouncing Shardless Agent, it's a great way to deal with Rhinos or a board with Leyline on it.

Here's an idea: with Leyline of the Guildpact, the mana dorks Bloom Tender and Faeburrow Elder tap for 5 mana, one of each color. Can we Coalition Victory on turn 3 somehow?
Letline is a bit stronger than my old Standard meme deck of Scuttlemutt+ Faeburrow Elder + Gauntlets of Light. Powercreep, huh?

Ran this at FNM. The land flood was unreal. I did get that fantastic leyline turn one, draco 2 then rhinos. Man that felt pretty strong! Transforming sideboard was great. Dude showed me his fluster storm as the Kavu came down. Thanks for the innovation Daddy!
It sounds like a fun night at FNM! (Minus the flood!) I think the deck needs to mulligan somewhat aggressively against certain matchups!

If you only played drannith turn 2, turn 3 you still gonna cascade another drannith so it locks the opp even when they have otawara until they start hardcasting, always loved your fake-out decks this is so busted lol.
Indeed! Living End was really tough to make decisions cuz I didn't know if we would cascade into drannith or kavu. Plus, they could start playing their creatures with 4 mana, and if it eventually came down to topdecking, their creatures are quite a bit scarier!
@@MagicAids maybe you can add 1 Living End as an additional fake out card, it may be good vs control too, or wotc can just ban these overpowered cascade cards but they won't cause "deck has interactive gameplay" lol

If the leyline decks really stick it out, I almost wonder if Renounce the Guilds becomes an interesting sideboard tech.
Probably not, but instant-speed multicolored-edict can do some work on otherwise hexproof permanents. The weaknesses against the Rhinos variant are likely too much, though.
Any enchantment hate would work, but it's more about getting a free spell that's relevant to accelerate them. Losing leyline isn't that big of a deal if it caused the opponent to take off a turn to answer it!

How does Lavinia compare to Drannith Magistrate? It also counters their free spells.
That it does! Lavinia also stops tron stuff and incarnations. But having 2 toughness instead of 3 is pretty rough!

The RC win rates are always a bit sus as the kids say, but they do capture that particular moment in time
I'd take out at least 2 force of natures and try the new archdruids charm. That card would have been clutch a couple of times in the last match. It can make draco bigger to take out Sphinxes and if you run a single bajuka bog maindeck it can also exile the yard and it can also do what force does, albeit quite a bit worse, but imho that flexibility of being good before and after living end resolves might be worth it. Another card that'd be way better than drannith is spirit of the labyrinth. stopping draws from cycling is very strong if it comes down early.
Archdruid's Charm could work! Although, the ggg is pretty tough on the mana base!

I think they got confused on wut zone Cascade casts spells from n thought that the cards were being cast from the deck when in reality it gets exiled n then u may cast it from exile

Either the deck finds scion with all of its buffing abilities, two 4/4 rhinos, kavu, or the sideboard answers!
It’d be nice if we didn’t have a new boogeyman deck in the format after every set release but ya know…
Most new decks die down after a few weeks, but it looks like leyline of the Guildpact is one of the few cards that can hang around, for better or for worse!

I would have to agree with that! There are plenty of cascade spells that could replace it, but the instant speed really makes it strong!
I think there’s at least a bit more nuance than that winrate let’s on, but if this deck gets cascade banned? I’ll gladly rally behind it 💪
They can at least ban outburst, but the problems with cascade all started with shartless agent being blue to pitch to force of negation!
That moment when Scion is up to 12$ a copy because it's blowing Modern's back out with the new leyline, but you only paid $2.50 before the set release to add it to Yuriko Ninjas.😎

I saw leyline spoiled and immediately knew it'd break nearly all formats it's legal in as it is way good for pitching to exile from hand effects, enables domain on turn 1 which is just really strong
Free spells are always something that I'd think wotc would test beforehand. Oopsie poopsies!
@MagicAids I decided to delete my last comment on this out of fear of the Pinkertons, but I know for fact what kinda general playtests they do. Sadly, I can't discuss what that looks like. I don't speak on behalf of wotc, or hasbro, etc, nor am I an employee of either. But play tests of some kind do occur in some form just alot slips through

Leyline of the Guildpact+Domain may be the real problem here, not Cascade.
Rhinos used to be a control deck with a combo finish, sort of like Splinter Twin.
NOW with the release of Leyline of the Guildpact, Rhinos together with Scion and Leyline Binding has become a tempo deck with a combo finish... where Scion is their equivelent of Delver of Secrets in Legacy during the era of Deathrite Shaman.
With gemstone Cavern and Leyline, you can play Scion as early as t1... and who the can deal with a 4/4 flying, hexproof, Trample, First Strike, lifelink and Vigilance on turn 1?
Especially with a Subtlety and/or Force of negation as back up. I believe almost nobody can.
Heck, Rhinos dropped Tidebinder for this! That's a major red flag!
... but Leyline is still a new card so let's wait and see in 2 or 3 months on how or *if* the format adapts. But the card just enables what's already there, so i doubt it.
EDIT: If we must ban something, should it be Guildpact or Scion or Violent Outburst?
If we ban Scion we're neutering the Domain Rhinos list but almost killing Domain Zoo/Aggro.
If we ban Guildpact, we go back to pre-MKM.
If we ban Violent Outburst, Rhinos becomes a 4c sorcery speed tempo deck that still plays scion on t1 and might still have more than 55 winrate%. Living End will potentially drop in winrate%.
If we ban Guildpact and Violent Outburst, both Living End and Rhinos will drop in winrate%, Domain Zoo/Aggro will return to pre-MKM and Titan and Yawgmoth are going to raise in winrate% and playrate% and dominate Modern even harder.
I believe the best course of action is to hit Leyline of the Guildpact here... before MH3.
Before we hit Violent Outburst, we must do something about Titan and Yawgmoth to prevent them from taking over because they will. We saw with the Fury ban how Titan and Yawgmoth instantly jumped in winrate and playrate until Scam people moved to Rhinos to fight it. Rhinos is the only deck that holds those two decks in check... after we hit Titan and Yawgmoth, then we can target Outburst to stop Living End, and neuthering Rhinos in the process(necessary evil, I'm afraid).

@@MagicAids MainBoard Pick Your Poison would be very good in dealing with Rainbow Leyline and Urza's Saga on Turn 1. Deals well with Murktide and optimal Scion of Draco as well.

@@azlimajid2900 I think it is some sort of layers interaction similar to dryad and bloodmoon so whatever comes into play last is the acting effect. So bloodmoon should still be good(good luck hardcasting leyline under bloodmoon for your opponent). Not 100 percent sure on this though.

That would be a start! But the problems all started when shartless agent became legal with mh2. Being in blue to pitch to force is quite good. But regular rhinos had a low winrate at the championship, so I'd be surprised if wotc banned anything until after mh3 releases this summer
Why board out the key card of the deck? I've never been a fan of that.
When in a major tournament always board in every card. Then shuffle twice. Then remove 15 cards from your deck. This way they don't know what or how many cards you board. Just like on Magic Online you should absolutely never just hit submit deck. This let's them know you didn't sideboard. I mean you can know also if the game starts right away... But if they are favored then it's not good that they know you did nothing.

Wow, post last ban the format has become worse and much less grindy. Mostly combo decks left and right with Rhinos dominating. Def a monkeys paw situation.

@@MagicAids Yeah from my perspective all the Fury ban did was stealth buff combo decks and the arguments against Fury aren’t holding up cause players aren’t trying to play these “fair” creature decks, everyone just ran to combo decks. So what did the Fury ban actually accomplish? I think it had its role in the meta, despite how dominate scam was at the time.

Apparently one of the reasons MKM sucks is because there aren't any chase mythics. Clearly wizards should've printed Leyline at mythic.
Wotc also jacked up the price on MKM and got rid of draft and set boosters. Boxes are down to $113, which I believe is less than what local game stores paid for them, or about the same as what they paid for them, which is a real uh-oh stinky
There was a thread on Reddit about them being sold for $99 already. Definitely less than distributors are charging ($115-125 depending on how many are bought apparently).
Reception for the set has been really tepid. The cards don't seem that bad but the price increase hasn't gone down well and the set theme and art hasn't impressed either.
But people do tend to complain when the chase cards are mythics but also complain when the mythics aren't good enough.
Nothing needs to be banned.
Just wait until MH3 completely reshapes the format.
The first three opponents decks were just bad.
