Another great video! Thank you!
I was looking in an old Czech self-study book published in 1959. Interestingly, here it translates vždyť as 'Why, ...' used as an interjection, not a question.
Thanks for the comment! I am sure even Czech vždyť might have been used slightly differently then.
I remember.
Ha, ha, ha! Zase krasne a uzitecne videjko, VZDYT je i humoristicke!😅😂
Děkuju vám!
Thanks for a lesson, Zuzko! P.s. If spoken slowly, VŽDYŤ sounds like a quick magic spell when moving a magic wand. Cool word :)
Thanks for your comment. You're right, _vždyť_ could be a magic spell, hopefully making people learn Czech easier!
we simplify it to "dyť" in veryday language 🙂
❤❤❤❤
Good učitelka👍
Very interesting. I think, this word has a simmilar meaning as the german Modalpartikel "doch" in such phrases - which we don't translate with a word in other languages, too
In Polish, we have a similar word "przecież", which has pretty the same meaning.
@MrGuitarMR Yes, that's actually right. I don't speak German but when I did some research, wiktionary mentioned that it corresponds to the German _doch_ or _ja._
@@matrix13113 I assume that corresponds to our "přece," which is almost a synonym for _vždyť._
Ano, 🇨🇿 vždyť = 🇩🇪 doch. Vypadá ale, že vždyť je vždy na první pozici, zatímco doch je na druhé pozici věty. Vždyť to víš = Das weißt du doch.
Ale vždyť = aber doch
@@andreasp.5788 Genau. Und deutsche Modalpartikeln verwendet man nie als erstes Satzelement. Vždyť schon. Vielen Dank für den Austausch!
When I was hearing the examples, it sounds kinda like it means "See??" at the beginning of a sentence. "See? I told you it was going to rain, but you didn't listen." Thoughts?
Exactly in Croatian you would say vidiš which exactly means "you see" and vždyt' even sounds similar so I think it stems from you see in the old slavic language
An interesting observation! One of the functions could be expressed like that. I found an interesting sentence in this short article in _Naše řeč_ nase-rec.ujc.cas.cz/archiv.php?lang=en&art=5620:
„Je to silně apelová složka v sémantické výstavbě výrazu vždyť, složka, kterou by bylo možno parafrázovat slovním spojením ,uvědom(te) si, že'.“ - a component that could be paraphrased with the phrase 'be aware that.'
According to this article, in English, the equivalents for 'vždyť' are: 'well, to be sure' or 'you see and in ' German 'ja' and 'doch.'
Zajimave, ja jsem vzdzcky pouzival "šak" jako zkracene "však", ale to je asi rozdil mezi Cechami a Moravou. Umisteni slova, pouziti a vyznam je uplne stejny, kdo vi kdy se to oddelilo.
Máte pravdu, 'však' funguje úplně stejně. Jsem ze středních Čech a mám pocit, že 'však' zní více knižně. V mluvené řeči ho skoro nikdy nepoužívám, ve formálním textu už ano.
No není to krásné, že i v naší malé zemi máme takovéto milé rozdíly!
Etymologicky má 'vždyť' blízko ke slovu 'vždy', i když v moderní češtině má k tomuto příslovci trochu daleko.
Zkouška..
