    Mitch is what you will call a countertenor which is the highest vocal range that a male singer can sing, and it's quite rare. If you want to truly experience how well he can sing and his vocal range, I suggest reacting to 'The Prayer' by Pentatonix.

    • @bfly5990
      @bfly5990 Před 2 lety +13

      You should listen to the prayer
      It’s their newest epic cover. It’s fantastic. Penta means 5.
      Pentagon. A five sided building
      Pentatonic is a five note musical scale
      Pentatonix = 5
      Scott Hoying. Baritone / bass
      Kirstie. Mezzo Soprano
      Mitch. Counter tenor
      Avi Bass. 2011-2017
      Matt. Bass 2017- present
      Kevin. Beat boxing/ cello
      This is only time in 200 plus songs they have used auto tune and it’s to
      Honor Cher who used it first
      If they use instruments you will see them otherwise it’s only them

    Matt replaced Avi. Mitch is a counter tenor. That means his natural range is way higher than a normal tenor. The transitions are EPIC!!! They have other videos similar to this one like the "Evolution of....." videos. Evolution of Music, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande. The blonde guy's name is Scott. No part 2 unfortunately. I understand the stopping..those darn copyrights! It's also OK to stop and comment because you don't want to lose your thought. I believe most of us have seen this video multiple times. I know I have seen it about 50 times. I enjoy it every time! Thank you for your reaction. I look forward to more of your Pentatonix (you can say PTX and we will know what you mean) reactions

    Thanks for you reaction. You are a lot of fun to watch while taking this journey with Pentatonix.
    You were wondering ABOUT Mitch's high voice. The physical reason for this because Mitch's vocal cords are physically shorter than most men's vocal cords. This results in a higher voice. But his pure, clear tone is from a lot of work training and work. The result as you know so well is outstanding! Thanks again for your reactions!

    Avi Kaplan was their original bass singer - he has his own channel now - the parting was amicable. Matt Sallee is the new bass - you'll enjoy both. All the member s can sing well - including Kevin Olusola, the beat boxer.

    • @eolsunder

      yes everyone loves Avi he's great but the schedule and work touring and shows was too much he didn't want to put that much time away from his family during the year so he went off to do other things with a lighter schedule. But he was amazing while he was there, and his replacement fits right in with the group excellent. And Mitch, yes, i consider him the top in his field of all the groups. Other areas like boxing, bass, and such i like other group members in those roles, but Mitch doesn't have any contenders.

    You know, I’ve come to really appreciate the big change. Avi was Avi, and let’s not forget how amazing he is, but Matt really is a great fit, taking lead like the rest of them. Avi wasn’t afraid to take lead either, but you can really see Matt’s enjoyment when he gets into his belt range or even just takes a Cher lead.
    If you want something more Matt-focused, check out “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Other good recommendations (like any are ever bad ones) are “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” (great Mitch slap, some Matt, Kirstie really coming out of her shell), Aha! (maybe a double feature, music video is a maybe, but live version from a fan’s cell phone titled “Aha! Singapore Star Vista” is a MUST), and Sound of Silence. There are many more to catch, and I have a few other songs in my list that I watch every reaction of, and I’m always adding more as I finally work up the courage to add another song to my time-consuming list of YES PLEASE! I’ve seen too many good things about The Prayer to not crack into that one soon.

  • @thechomiji
    @thechomiji Před 2 lety +5

    This is such a *happy* video! Make no mistake, Mitch *can* sing that high. Autotune is only used here in the cover of Cher's Believe, the original of which was one of the first songs to use that effect. You'll probably be watching a lot of their official videos, so here's a link to a very recent live performance (Dec. 21, 2021) for which there is no official video: Joyful Joyful, at the Evergreen holiday concert tour: czcams.com/video/Us8Px4PAsjw/video.html Mitch starts off with a solid mid-range tenor and then soars into his powerful treble (countertenor) at various points.
    This kind of arrangement of multiple is called a medley in English. Pentatonix and their arranger, Ben Bram, are masters of transitioning from one to the next.

    **THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from a planet, far, far, away 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artists.

      @LindaVernon Před 2 lety +1

      Built differently -- likely shorter vocal cords give him a higher range without falsetto. But the purity and beauty of his voice are all his.
      What is also part of his talent/skills is his ability to control his voice so completely. Listen to him easily and rapidly slide up and down throughout his full vocal range in their cover of Gold. Watch him in Carol of the Bells to see his extraordinary breath control.

    @Bobal27 Před 2 lety +6

    I see the other Pentaholics haven’t alerted you to a common video preference yet… if you pause to talk, just back up a bit before unpausing, for a few reasons:
    One: So you don’t miss anything (and every moment has something that’s missed at first glance, so don’t feel bad when you catch extra things by backing up).
    Two: To restore the flow, and vibe, so you (and we) don’t miss things in the few unpause seconds by getting back into it.
    Three: To show us what you just saw with potentially an extra focus to pay attention to. Every song is a different experience with each subsequent viewing, depending on where your focus is at any given moment. They are adding 5 voices together, that’s five (or more when combining) things to pay attention to, besides the video itself. You notice one thing about, say, Kirstie’s background harmony or instrumentation (simulated), like how well she’s doing the keyboard part, then I want to see that part again while listening for the “keyboard vocals.”
    Still great reactions, I’m just nitpicking a little, but I feel like a majority of those of us who watch the same song(s) from every new reactor as our way of rewatching Pentatonix (the 7th to 250th time we see it) like the flow restoration and “catch sharing” backups.
    Other Pentaholics, feel free to agree with thumbs or disagree with a dissenting opinion here:

Thank goodness you took the recommendations to do Pentatonix because I would have hated to have never "met" you all I cannot wait for your next reaction to PTX. There is a song Kirstie wrote that's called "love me when I don't" which they performed live a did really cool edits to make the video. They wrote and did videos for whole EP during covid lockdown. They each had to learn how to record the audio and video each of them separately. My favorite song out of all of their songs is their cover of "dreams" by the cranberries. It's all 5 part harmony, when I listen it's like angels singing.

    Welcome to Pentatonix reacting ! I'm subscribing in hopes of more. I hope you won't get discouraged by the blocking. I'm not an expert, but I believe that they do not block because of the audio. It's the video that causes the block, so many reactors make changes to the video to avoid the block, including making it smaller, increasing the transparency, overlaying a graphic, and many other things. Some reactors don't show the video at all. If you alter the video enough you can play it straight through if you want, but I think most fans don't mind if you pause. We have all seen these videos many times and what we want is your opinions. It's best if you back up a few seconds if you can so you don't miss anything.

    Great reaction, also one of my favourites as I was also growing up with these songs. I also love when you stop and give a comment that's what a reaction should be.

    09:19 To answer your question, there is supposed to be video of an interview that PTX did, and when the question was asked, "Who is the best singer among you?", everyone else immediately pointed at Mitch.

    Hey Guys, love your reactions.....its honest and real, and it shows. Parroting what was said by Sir Wads below, if you want to really hear Mitch soar through the clouds and keep it there, watch "The Prayer". Suggestion, don't be drinking anything while listening to this.

    You kept asking, "How...how...how?" If you'll react to their short documentary "Recording Evergreen" (about the making of their latest Christmas album) you might get some answers...it gives great insights into their working process, how they choose who performs the lead vocals and how they arrange their music. It's awesome...

    First of all, I love the beard, I wish I had one like yours, secondly the male voice from deepest to highest, or darkest to lightest, would be "Bass, Baritone, Tenor and Countertenor", Mitch is what you would call a Pop Countertenor, the reason why the word "Pop" is added, is because Countertenors are usually found in Classical Singing roles or Operatic style of singing, there are two types of Countertenors, "Natural Countertenors and Trained Countertenors" trained Countertenors are baritones and tenors who are trained in female roles and can sing soprano, Natural Countertenors are people who without training can sing soprano and have a feminine tone in their voices, really and truly a Natural Countertenor are people who usually has hormonal imbalances and due to this their voices didn't drop after puberty, it could also be genetics. Either way Countertenors can be baritones and tenors that can sing soprano roles and it's rare just like contralto.
