When we first saw Finn in the trailer for the Force Awakens, it was hinted that he would be one of the major characters in the sequel trilogy. He was also a former stormtrooper and potentially force sensitive. This was easily one of the most exciting and hyped up parts of the film at the time. We take a look at all of the lost potential of Finn's backstory.

@@user-ox3mj2sr8n The Last Jedi is a great movie!
A Kryptonian Jedi would be kinda OP but still cool.
@@vis_viva What do you mean by? Can you explain this to me please?
The force is female (Layla.)😂🗿🚨🎭My apologies to Eric Clapton fans.
@@chriscummings4206 What do you mean by that?
They did Finn extremely dirty. His backstory was unique and had tons of potential… only for Finn to be gradually pushed aside as a joke character.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!!!
What is the obsession with Finn? I do not get it. What is so interesting about him? And what do you expect his story arc to be?
@@jankom.7783 it’s more so the potential that is there that has everyone thinking. Think about it. The story of a brainwashed soldier who realizes he is fighting for the wrong side and forsakes the security and comfort of duty and following orders for doing what’s right. If that’s not the makings for an awesome and inspiring tale then I don’t know what to tell you.
@@jankom.7783 Well, his story's broad strokes were so close to Kyle Katarn, I think a lot of folks expected him to follow that character's arc.
Finn by far had the most exciting and captivating character idea than all of the other sequel characters bar none. He was Star Wars' chance to continue creating new and interesting stories, but instead he was just trailer bait and his character was totally overshadowed by Luke Skywalker 2 so that they can fight Darth Vader 2 and blow up the Death Star 3.
I personally feel robbed of fins story John boyaga deserves better from Disney
He for sure needs, but in a saga called "The Skywalker Saga" it was expected his character would was the less focus centric one, since he was the less conected to them (but that for sure don't change he need to be the main one in the next trilogy like Obi Wan or Han to keep the balance going on)
100% Disney definitely dropped the ball...and the later character assassination was just wrong
I honestly felt that he should have been the “Jedi” given that he was able to break the brainwashing machine of the first order.
Finn absolutely should've been the main character
Boyega definitely deserves the opportunity to tell Finn’s story as it should have unfolded in the first place. Disney should pay him his price, and then give him that story, they started it and they should come through.
Also, I just noticed that in the Chinese poster: not only did they reduce in size Boyega’s image in the collage, they removed Oscar Issac from the poster completely. How rude…
That's one of my biggest disappointment in the disney series, Finn was supposed to be a soldier taken as a child, he could have had ptsd sequences, memories, problems with being in the resistance. And also show he REALLY is a soldier, a warmachine trained to fight, not a joke caracter pushed aside. So much potential wasted, same for Phasma.
Disney doesn't care about black men when whamens is involved. "force is female" etc etc etc. *vomits*
Phasma even in the first movie! They shoved her in a trash compactor! Also, why the hell wasn't the TR-8R fight between Finn and Her? That would've been an epic way to establish their conflict, and instead they just created TR-8R for one scene and then killed him unceremoniously.
It kinda reminds you that the writers behind Star Wars nowadays care little for the bad guys being more than just stupidly and cartoonishly overpowered for no reason. One could argue the idea of the Empire to begin with is kind of a bland note - just Nazis in space - but at least they had some semblance of a believable backstory and a realistic span of capabilities, something the First Order has neither of.
The late Max Von Sydow Was wasted too
It was a shame to see Finn so diluted throughout the Disney sequels....
It wasn't a shame... it was a disgrace.
I well remember seeing the trailer for TFA, it had me so excited, I really believed a new SW age was dawning and I couldn't wait to learn about these new characters, I was all set to buy into it. Now... I'm afraid I just can't get interested in any of them. I could care less that John Boyega will be back along with Rey Palpatine, and I won't be going to see that movie, if it ever gets made.
Delete Rey and make Fin the new Jedi. Would have been much cooler. When the TFA trailers hit I was like, a storm trooper becomes a Jedi, awesome!
When Disney must obey their Chinese masters.
@@adamcarey6093 one who just picks up a lightsaber doesnt just becaome a Jedi Both Fin and Rey are unworthy of the Jedi Tital. And in all reasons they wouldn't be Jedi they would be just Force Sensitive as the Jedi Order is dead and nobody granted them the title of Jedi Knight nor Dam Padawan. Rey is simply a Force Sensitive and Fin is just someone who got destoyed by a True Force User.
@@Tendon-Cobar-2347title not tital
John did a great job making Finn relatable. You can't act well enough to overcome that writing, but he did what he could. There should be an Oscar for "Best acting in the face of truly horrible writing."
i know right he's one of my favorite characters in the trilogy
actually i love all the actors they did a fantastic job for a script that made no sense at all
mcu movies might actually start winning with that category
Back when Finn had potential to be a main character of his own right, now he's just guy who's just shouting *"REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!"*
They fly now!!!
good soldiers follow orders. Finn's story as a child soldier would have been fascinating to elaborate on. He shared so many similarities with both the clones AND the Jedi. Bred and trained since he could walk to be a soldier, indoctrinated from the same age to be loyal to the First Order then disillusioned after the death of his friend. He could have bridged the gap the prequels left and helped create a unique link.
Instead, they blinked, and made Fin a janitor that got bumped up to trooper for some reason, not a real warrior. What a waste.
Let's remember that one of the stormtrooper saw finn as an officer and was proud of him in the last Jedi
There is nothing Disney can do to change the fact that Finn is Force Sensitive. The way they had him acting during certain sequences proved that even if he couldn't USE The Force, he could definitely FEEL IT. And we missed out on that. And John was cast aside basically. A secondary character is all he got to be. Disney is so corrupt, even Palpetine would scoff at them.
Yeah, he was one of the few amazing things the Sequels introduced and I was so excited to see what they're gonna do with his character and then so disappointed that they reduced him to screaming Rey all the time.
Finn is written like a character who’s backstory was written first by some one who only had an idea and concept for the character, then different writers went about writing him with out to much consideration for his original foundation. As we would latter find out this is exactly what happened.
How rude…
Isn't Oscar Isaac Jewish? Maybe Chinese moviegoers are antisemitic _as well as_ racist...
The CCP don't want their average grunts to be like Finn.
@@memenadekhanh3992 or even like Poe. The CCP doesn't really like anyone who isn't ethnically Han Chinese or Asian, yet they're still hypocrites since they are oppressive towards their own citizens and don't respect the sovereignty of their neighbors like Taiwan, Hong Kong (even though it's a Special Administrative Region, yet its citizens and society behave more autonomously from the central government), Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei-the territories of the latter four in the South China Sea were illegitimately claimed and militarized by the CCP according to "an ancient map".
Too late, TFA made him a janitor cosplaying as a trooper. There is no story to go back and tell.
But there should have been.
Finn got done dirty by the sequel trilogy
Not true! He is done greatly in The Last Jedi!
@@SuperPlacido1 A great amount of damage was done to him in The last jedi.*
@@user-su6wy3bj4v It was very well developed in The Last Jedi, thanks to Rose and the other hacker! It was precisely because of the events at Kanto Bike that Finn wanted to sacrifice himself at the end of the film!
The thing that I find so hard to forgive the higher ups at Disney for is that Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Kelly Marie Tran are all such amazing actors, they are so incredibly talented, and I'm sure they are probably good people outside of their careers also... but due to how Disney treated their characters, a lot of people are going to always think that they were nothing but diversity hires. We never get to see Daisy Ridley's amazing acting skills because she is never given a script that plays to her strength, instead she is given poorly choreographed fight scenes that make it look like she is swinging around a baseball bat rather than an elegant bladed weapon. We get teases of it, the scenes when she is having one on one conversations across from Adam Driver are some of the best character moments in Star Wars. John Boyega was able to convey such a wide range of emotion in the opening scene of The Force Awakens, with a helmet on, and then we get glimpses of that emotional range from time to time, but at no point do we get that story arc of him having to come to terms with the fact that he is now having to kill the people who he used to consider friends or even family, because they are still so brainwashed that they view him as a traitor and will kill him without hesitation if he doesn't kill them first. Why don't we get to see the emotional breadth that we see in the opening scene ever applied to one of those moments? And poor Kelley Marie Tran, she has such an intense energy, she easily could have been the small but mighty Resistance counter to Phasma (another criminally underused character), and instead she is practically the comic relief.
Unfortunately, I can kind of understand why a lot of people think those three were diversity hires, because they were put front and center on all the marketing, but never truly shined in the movies, so obviously there had to be some reason Disney was pushing them so much in the marketing. Yeah, the marketing people recognized the incredible talent of those three and showcased them front and center, but the producers and management were afraid to go all in with them.
That first trailer…man…I remember my excitement and it could not be contained.
They did Finn dirty. They did us all dirty.
_I still remember how overjoyed and positive I was after watching The Force Awakens._
Despite what everybody said about "A New Hope 2.0", this was a movie I genuinelly loved to watch and made me feel hopeful for the future of Star Wars!
The amazing ammount of graphic novels and extended material released right afterwards only intensified that optimism, that nostalgic magic of "Star Wars is back".
*Which is why I will absolutelly never forgive Ryan Johnson not even after his death.*
Because as soon as The Last Jedi was released, *it was over.*
All of it.
It just *ended* right there, with JJ Abrams failing to revive the trilogy in Rise of Skywalker.
Ryan's abomination did so many hateful things!
- it turned Finn, a really compelling and likeable character, *into a literal punching bag of comic relief*
- it turned Rey, a pretty generic but still likeable protagonist, *into a bitter person who's always angry and lashing out*
- it turned Poe Dameron, the iconic "best pilot in the galaxy" who even had his own book, *into a suddenly incompetent and reckless leader who throws his companions' lives away on a suicide run and is just arrogantly defying the chain of command like an asshole*
_And dear Lord, I don't think I even need to start with Luke and Leia, right?_ 🤦♂️
Seriously, I think only Kylo Ren avoided the blunt of the bullshit, yet even he felt lacking!
People saying Rise of Skywalker was the worst of the trilogy, but to me that movie was just JJ Abrams _trying_ to rescue what original ideas he had back in the The Force Awakens time.
Except he utterly failed, because the damage was far too great and he did not have the competence to recycle *that* hot garbage back into form.
And _man... it hurts._
_It actually hurts to remember the good old days of 2016-2017 and how good it felt to see numbered Star Wars movies back again._ 😔
Yeah I feel like I can’t even criticize rise of skywalker for exactly that reason… 🤦 what a mess
I feel like the racist homophobic rants from Rta back in the day should have been the first clue. He never wanted Finn to be, well Finn, because he was black, and his love story arc was completely destroyed, along with his force sensitivity and all. The situation with Po was purely in service to trying to place Rey as this Damsel in Distress centerpiece that to me just came off as sexist, because you took a strong character and turned her into a stereotype, and oh my god, they did Rose. What an absolute show of true colors there. Mark Hamil tried his best to do something, but he didn't hold any of the cards. Shit situation man.
Don't quite agree with part of that:
- Finn was turned from puppy dog love of Rey comic-relief into someone who chooses to be a hero. His character is greatly improved in TLJ. The execution of this is poorly handled, but it did greatly improve his character. Of course, the 3rd movie then reverts him to puppy dog love Finn, making him a joke character again.
- Rey was just more of the same from the first, for the most part.
- Poe is the only one making good military decisions, though he does get progressively worse as the movie progresses.
But yes, TLJ did kill the series. Rian Johnson failed at his job, which was to make the middle act of a three act story, and instead opted to show his disdain of Abrams style mystery boxes by wiping out any avenue for the story to in the first movie established.
@@Axterix13 I disagree as Finn's whole motivation in TLJ is to Find Rey, willing to dessert from the Resistance in order to do so. He literally wakes up and aims to find Rey getting caught by rose but then Poe needs them to do something.
Tell me that's not simping or being someone with puppy dog eyes. He later becomes a bero giving and believing in Rose another outcast and willing to sacrifice himself in the battle of Crait for the resistance.
Alan, I have to tell you. Your channel is the one above the many that I respect and look towards when it comes to unique, stimulating and sometimes challenging (intellectually, and in the best ways possible) Star Wars content.
As a fellow person of Asian descent, thank you for this video.
Please do not stop doing what you do!
You're quite right. But it's a pity that Allen said that all Disney's words about equal representation, Asian representation are... completely *_meaningful._* 😏
@@Raygo.I think he meant to say "meaningless" and it came off wrong? 🤨
I dunno, something about that delivery felt off.
He could have been saying it sarcastically. Like tongue in cheek.
Finn should have been the awoken Jedi but because Disney cares more about the Chinese market we got what we got
Yup that was the point Disney were hyper chinese simps before they took an 90 degree turn after Black Panther
Let's not forget they filmed the live-action Mulan in Xinjiang, a region that historically belonged to a Muslim ethnic group known as the Uyghurs, who were being held in internment camps against their will and are being stripped away of their culture and religion all in the interests of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
What makes it worst is the Chinese market has never been a big audience for Star Wars. It's always been middling.
I feel finn wouldn't be a jedi more like a sharpshooter since he can use the force to better his aim and even reaction time
Everyone in Disney SW has force power- when it's convenient...
I feel like the character of Taramyn Barcona from Andor was a dig at how they handled Finn, in that it was basically the show saying this is what Finn realistically should have been like.
Cardinal West has an incredible script rewrite for the sequel trilogy and it actually gives Rey, Poe and Finn the credit they deserve as protagonists. I highly recommend you guys check it out.
Thanks I'll check it out. 😁👍🏾🤔
Excellent episode. I wish Disney/LucasFilm had someone like Allen on their corporate board as an advisor. Someone with VETO power over bad ideas. Someone who says "No you can't have Leia flying through space and Finn needs to have his character arc properly fleshed out."
Seeing a stormtrooper defect got my curiosity. The thought of him becoming a Jedi earned my attention. Screwing Boyega out of this awesomeness earned my ire and distain. Finn was paraded out to pander to the west and then hidden to pander to the east. To hell with Disney
I want to see a live-action series about the FIrst Order, not only highlight Finn but also give Phasma the screen time and development she deserves.
It’d be fascinating to follow a character in the Final Order as well. Born and raised on Exegol, just chillin.
It’d be interesting if during TROS, we see that actually Finn’s actions did trigger a rebellion within the FO, reaching all the way to the Final Order.
Finn should have been the jedi protagonist. Imagine an ex stormtrooper turner jedi
Would have been a better plot twist than what we got. Make for a better story too.
When I saw the trailer for the force awakens, I legit thought Fin was going to be the main character. Would have been so cool to have a story where the Sith/bad guys do something soo bad, they turn some of their own people against them, and one of them turns out to be force sensitive and become a Jedi.
Thank you for talking about this. It was upsetting what they did to John (Finn).
When the first trailers for TFA were released & we got that first shot of Finn, all I thought was "Cool; a stormtrooper as a main character." Add to that the poster with Finn holding the lightsaber & I thought "Cool; a former stormtrooper who's Force sensitive. This could be interesting." Instead, we got the Finn that Disney/LF gave us. I really had great hope for all the characters, but Finn in particular & was greatly disappointed, as were many others.
In my own canon, Finn is as I described above - a Force sensitive, former stormtrooper who winds up being trained by Luke. Poe is pretty much a mix of Han & farmboy/x-wing pilot Luke, an ace pilot with a bit of swagger to him. Rey is a crewmember of the Falcon that Han picked up along the way, using her mechanical & technical expertise to keep the ship together. Kylo Ren is no relation to Han & Leia; he's just a new Sith character under the tutelage of Snoke, who's also NOT a Palpatine clone, who've reconstituted the various parts of the Imperial Remnant. Those tweaks to the characters were, quite honestly, the only way I could stomach keeping any of the figures I'd collected over the course of the Sequels, as silly as that sounds & would've made for a much more appealing story, for me, at least.
Sound actually interesting. Too bad that such examples of interesting storytelling potential are ignored simply because the one's in charge don't actually know what good quality is. Granted one can say the quality issue is more of a Disney problem at large rather than just a Star Wars one. But yeah your idea at least makes use of the characters in a way that works. At least then Rey's ability to fix the Falcon could be explained away of 'her fixing it up so many times she actually has some knowhow to ensure some issues Han didn't know or put off could be solved simply by doing enough to know what goes where and how it all works together', rather than her just somehow knowing it like what was seen in the actual film. And having Kylo Ren not be related to Han & Leia is a nice idea as well, because then you aren't forced to write around certain things and allow him to be something arguably even more of a bad guy than Vader ever could be. The whole claim of Snoke being a failed Palpatine clone is really unneeded, so just drop that thing and make him something original instead. I mean there was this whole plan of having a 'True Sith Empire' for the Old Republic games, why not have him be a remnant of that and have him seek to do what his distant ancestors did so long ago. Seriously, there could have been so much more done but instead they just went with the laziest by-the-numbers storylines meant to push product onto store shelves for people who know nothing better would buy up because Star Wars. Except that hasn't really worked out for them, has it now? In any case, the fact random people on the internet can make more interesting story concepts on their free time can make more interesting story concepts than people who are paid money for their time spent by big companies really says how lacking the 'creative' part of Hollywood is these day's.
There are so many ways they could have gone with Finns character. They could have went the following directions:
1. He is a young, tough soldier who is good at his job and believes what he is doing is right. When he is sent into combat he begins to witness things that trouble him, when stormtroopers commit atrocities he reports them to their commander. The commander ignores him, so he reports these incidents to a higher commander and is punished harshly for it. When he is forced to participate in an atrocious act he defects to the rebellion.
2. Finn could be an older soldier. He is tough, ruthless and efficient. But he has been doing this too long. He is burned out and disillusioned. He goes awol to find a new life of peace and quiet. He hides out in a local community until he has to fight.
3. He could be a naval officer who commands a ship, and like Option #2 but he chided to recruit his crew to defect with him.
There is so much that could have been done instead of making Finn a comic relief.
Finn facing his old comrades (literally, unmasked troopers) and reconciling compartmentalised guilt is the necessary end to his ST story, before he allows himself to become a Jedi. Maybe he’s hesitant to tell Rey, because he fears what he’s capable of.
Tales of the Jedi season 2? The bare minimum, please
Thanks for putting this video out! Took the words right out of my mouth
I usually enjoy your videos. But for some reason this one was one of the best. So sincere. I loved it.
Very mature and well spoken, Alan. This is why you have one of, if not the, best Star Wars channel on CZcams.
This video reminds me of why I'm such a fan of yours: when you accurately mesh your SW Fandom and knowledge of IRL issues, you never hesitate to call out both sides.
I loved his dynamic with Poe and i had high hopes they could have been the bromance star wars always needed and NEVER could get right.
Finn had so much potential, such a good chance for modern day disney!
What a waste!

You can’t unsee those 12 years a slave posters. Man those were rough.
A great video as always, very insight full, thank you
Writing a story for Finn is very satisfying. Quite a few Fanfictions do this.
I quite liked his side-quest in TLJ, since it supports the main theme: 'learn from failure', and it was entertaining.
Also, rare to see you rant like that. but you have valid reason.
This is what makes this channel great, Star Wars and real life learning
Gr8 vid! There was potential with the sequels!
Incredible vid. Just saw the conclusion
I feel like if we they did a story about Finn recruiting and helping other stormtroopers rehabilitate then Disney could do it in a similar style to Andor where Finn must set up networks of defectors and expand the operations. And it’s not too late either, the galaxy post RoS has a power vacuum: both the Republic n the First Order are essentially gone and there will be power grab amongst different factions giving room for individuals like Finn, Rose, and Poe a chance to step up. It will be like what Mon Mothma did after RoTJ but now we can actually see it
They did Finn dirty. There was such a good story to tell with Finn and they glossed over it
I love your content. It helps me reconnect with some of the franchise i usually stay away from
I would LOVE to see a series that focuses on Finn, and explores his journey in the Force.
Always good breakdowns. Thank you for your contet.
Rian Johnson completely and utterly screwed over Finn/John Boyaga. Finn was a really interesting untrainted force sensitive Stormtrooper that defected. Rian Johnson used him to pad the runtime because a 2 hour slow speed chase with a general that doesn't tell her crew anything is really tedious. Finn was wasted on a 45 minute side quest to go to some casino planet where he completely fails at everything and has no impact on anything.
Right? That literally made no sense. Man that writing was horrendous.
Thank you explaining these ideas .
A show about Finn would be amazing, put the Andor team on it!
I have given up on disney but if they hired someone like alan to give them story ideas i might, might give them another chance.
I would absolutely LOVE to see a TV series focused on Finn! His character truly would present such a unique perspective and story for viewers! I hope he returns in some capacity - film, TV, or both - where his apparent Force sensitivity is actually addressed and explored. That was one of the most disappointing parts about The Rise of Skywalker for me, that his revelation wasn’t acknowledged. Thanks again for the awesome, thoughtful content - I really enjoyed this one!
We were all so excited. We had so much hope, and optimism, and goodwill. We were promised so much.
Come for the star wars, stay for the lecture on ethics. I do love this channel.
One of the best yet Prof Allen 💎 15:30
Finn discovering he was a force sensitive stormtrooper would have been a better story than what we got.
Was thinking this as well, so many new characters, with a good deal of build up to be something more, then left to be nothing more than an extra.
Hit the nail on the head. No one even thought twice about Finn's skin color, but the story from the trailers seemed like we were getting a very good story about a rogue storm trooper as well as how that affects him and how he turns to the "lightside" of the force and to become a Jedi.
Just watched Attack on the Block and reminded me why Finn should have been a Jedi. Great video as always Alan.

Shots. Fired.
Some good takes this time, Alan.
Many CZcamsrs don't have the integrity to admit what you said about racism in other countries vs US
Great video! First, I've been watching a lot of your content lately with great appreciation. Gotta say though, this video you really drive home an awesome, amazing message. The face that some entities parade minorities like they did something special when in actuality, like you so well stated, they've compressed all their hard work, individuality etc. down to only their race. It's a sad state of affairs. Then, how disney cares little about it's audience and takes no responsibility for it's actions. Either way, as always GREAT content and it's awesome how you bring so much more into the Star Wars universe and articulate actual deep thought and reflect of that world vs our world and ideologies and the dichotomies between both, keep it coming sir!
Finn the liberator of stormtrooper sounds more fun than space Vegas riding donkeys.
One of things that break finn for me that you didn't mention is that he is basically killing his excomrades and he has fun doing this.
“Finn sees the humanity in them-“
Finn: Proceeds to stab and gun down scores of troopers.
another thing is that out of everyone in the new cast of the prequels, John Boyega knew Star Wars better than any of the other actors (aside from Mark Hamill and the OGs). Not only did the man do his homework, but he is a genuine nerd and fan of the series, so it sucks to see the one person who cares the most get pushed to the background when he was perfect for the role of a new important lineup of fresh characters in the Star Wars family. Finn will forever be a Jedi in my eyes. That's his character. That's what he was set out to be from the beginning, based on scripts, based on the actor's own testimony, based on insights within the films we got in the prequels, and even the marketing. Disney better fix it, and they have a chance to do so in the upcoming Rey series/film.
Love the recent attention given to Finn’s character on this channel recently. His character was done so dirty
The director literally had legends and tons of other source material to draw from…they went for this.
my biggest problem with fin is how quickly he turns against the only family he knows
Alan, as usual you nailed it. Disney should apologize to fans . The section starting around 14:21 is the reason why .
Imagine First Order soldiers rebelling by painting a red hand on their helmets
Yoooo that would be terrifying I like it
As a long time Star Wars fan the first order storm trooper armor is one of my favorites. My all time favorite would be tied with clone commando armor and death trooper armor
Good, good. Let the beard flow through you Alan.
Thank you for this video. I have a firm belief that the sequel trilogy did everyone dirty by the end and it's important to not go after the actors for the failures of it's story they did not write.
I think one of the best parts of Force Awakens is even without the knowledge of the two Stormtroopers's backstory you mentioned you can tell the weight the death has on Finn with the first one and the sheer anger the second has for Finn abandoning the Order.
I was looking forward to Finn being a major role. Getting to know him inside the movies and perhaps in addition stories or shows. I was very disappointed how they treated the character, and the very little they did with him.
For me, Finn being black was a case of, "Oh, well that's different"... and that was it. I was more interested in the potential story of his, and like many others, I was looking forward to seeing how they would handle the teases of him possibly being at least Force-sensitive, and him being a minority was simply an extra detail. Disney really did the character of Finn and his actor dirty, and we missed out on what could have been a lot of what may have been at least interesting.
Sadly, my father was one of those who complained about a stormtrooper being portrayed by a black man, only he did not need social media to make his racism known - he regularly made that clear since he first saw the trailer. I guess back then, that should have been a warning sign for his political leanings to come.
The cherry on top: my father is Mexican and a naturalized immigrant. Like the comedian Trae Crowder said, idiots and @$$holes are immune to irony.
Love the content as always man. Based takes
Finn is my favorite character from the sequals, I was so looking forward to seeing the stormtrooper to rebel/possible jedi storyline as it began in the force awakens.
and then they just threw him to the sidelines
the LEGO shorts do more with Finn's character and explaining his connection to the force more than 2 movies.
Well said, Alan.
Finn being shafted is an understatement...
My own personal hindsight idea for Finn would be drop him for the most part to allow the character to do his arc in a separate media(TV show) keep his effects if his actions in the movie or have him join back up once said arc is completed off screen
Seeing this, think now we need a show solely based on Fin's past.
Finn had so much potential as a character then ruin johnson happened
Finn was a fantastic character, and it made me ludicrously disappointed that they tossed him onto the sidelines like that.
You and I don't see eye to eye a lot of times Allen but as a prequel fan who happens to be black I really appreciate it this one
Totally agree.
From what little I know of the sequels (I only watched Force Awakens) Finn got shafted so hard in the films the comics had to do extra leg work to make him actually matter as character, the same thing happened with Ren.
I had a thought that rather than have Finn ride some horses on the side of a star destroyer in rise of Skywalker, he should have instead hijacked the hologram intercom system and done a speech to appeal to the humanity of the rank and file troopers, causing a massive internal rebellion. And do it as a call back to order 66, but for the light side.
Subverting our expectations and crushing our spirits is what Disney does best.
I loved attack on the block and thought he was going to make a part 2
Alan, bro, so many good points you made. Disneys greed and negligence has divided the fanbase, but thank you for reminding us our love of star wars keeps us together.
Alen you are not only a greater CZcamsr but your ideology is amazing. You always address the politics without getting political. I wish more Americans shared your common sense. I'm a moderate conservative and you speak my language
"try to do a little too much" is an understatement. the Disney movies tried to have three Main Protagonists, each with their own complete and independent cast of Supporting Sidekicks. Then, doubling down on this fuckup, they tried to give each character multiple character development arcs.
The whole sequel trilogy felt like it started life on the drawing board as a plan for a full live-action series on the scale of Clone Wars, but then some new Disney exec fresh out of whatever the Corporate equivalent of West Point is decided "fuck that, put it all into a feature-length movie", and for some reason nobody told him "Sir, you're a fucking idiot, shut up and let the professionals work."
This is why I love Alan and gen tech he uses star wars to spit straight facts that are not politically skewed to the left or the right this guy is a real one.
He had nothing to do in the last movie except follow Rey around like a lost puppy.
