Pure media noize, was back then and is now. Line choice, setup, tactics, body position and fitness make so much more difference, yet skinsuits are a low hanging fruit both to wear and criticize.
As long as they look good it's fine. Just don't want dh to look like xc or tt roadies

Can you justify paying 2-3k on a gravel bike that is low spec no suspension no carbon wheels low end brakes ? I think I’d rather build one myself
Lets not forget that Rockshox had gold stanchions before Fox was even in the MTB game - Early 2000's they had the Gold Stanchion Black Box boxxers... which I may or may not have gotten a chance to ride on - absolutely supreme for its time!
I didn’t recognize the apparel they wore in the race as Lycra, looked like modern all mountain gear. Would clearly look ridiculous with a road skinsuit on these racers

I used to have disc brake covers on my dirtbike because I ride a lot of fine gravel access roads and I often had pebbles stuck in my calipers, the covers didn't really help with that I'd say they just catched bigger pebbles 😂
I certainly didn't have them on for aero reasons 😜
#quiz - the skinsuit 'ban' was introduced in October 2008 (you will find lots of quotes about T-Mo winning in Oz and Rach having 'Skinsuits Suck' written on her arm)
If you are trying to get people onboard with the skin suits looking good, putting Tahnee Seagrave in one is a pretty solid way to do it

The boat Orbea is on is exactly what the others brands are doing by weighing the bottom bracket, they are just using the motor as a weight without developing a DH bike. Just my thoughts 🤫

has probably been said but there are small natural springs/aquifers that are running down small runnels in the slabs etc etc. Bernard spoke of them as well. valid.

The Fox suit is a smart workaround and as long as the clothing looks good I'm OK with it. Full-on skins units belong in Time Trials on the road. Disc and deep section wheels are a no-go for DH because they will be so unforgiving. Shallow rims give compliance on heavy hits and are light enough to give manouvreability that will be lost on heavier deeper rims.
The disc covers were also mentioned to mainly keep water and mud off the discs. Aero was secondary.
Regarding disc wheels… those suffer from side wind resistance and are heavier. So there are no gains for DH.
For Holl’s fork stanchions… the color isn’t patented by Fox. You can’t patent a color. The material is though. Def seems like a branding issue more than anything to differentiate from Fox to not use gold color which reads as “Fox” from far away. This seems like a one off for Holl.
Love seeing the downhill prototypes, when I rode moto I loved the pure "factory" bikes that sadly no longer exist. Regarding the fox tight dungarees, they look good and raise the profile of the sport. Clothing was getting snugger year by year anyway so this was inevitable, bet they are comfy too.
As for the -emtb wild not running a motor or battery is there weights stacked in there place under the neoprene covering i wonder or up in the downtube for extraballance ane weight.?

Those disc covers on Bruni’s bike could be a safety feature as well, don’t get sliced up by those sharp edges

#quiz skinsuits/ tight fitting clothes were banned back in 2008 think in September/ October. On the podium Rachel Atherton wrote Skinsuits Suck on each of her arms after loosing to Mosley at Canberra in Australia.
Ben Cathro & Chris Hutchens in 2008 wore them at Fort bill and I think that was the last time anyone wore them.

I recognize that in pro sports it can give you the edge when a second is a lot. Though I can’t wait to freshen up my 90’s memories, should the skin suit trend be picking up. Diametrically handicapped people, pressed into super tight turbo color bartic lycra cycle pants, like sausages. But this time even better…

Skin suit's not the best look the fox flexifit isn't bad but when the does it come "Tour de DH" 😂 wasn't it banned in 08 ish? I have a 3D printed front disc cover I designed with an air channel to cool it down for testing but your not going to get much drag if any from airflow on a disc like Anna said it's more the spokes! I live in Scotland it's always scorching through the day and peeing down at night's I'm just using it to stop mucky grit grudging out the disc more than anything
DH race is about seconds and milliseconds, right? Then why would anyone want to lose just to look cool? Is coolness having extra points?

The skin suit was officially banned in 2008.

im old lol this is how i started on a single-track, I hate uci , how is this a issue ive been road for like 20yrs now , and i have big tires on drop bars and 120 suspension on what called a gravel bike , what happened to them just being bikes , is there a label for everything just to go back to the same bike i had as a kid , just made with carbon and disc brakes , cause that's what's truly happened since i got my first bike in 1998

Not really "skin suits" high mobility, breathability and ability to include body protection shows that the clothing has adapted over time.
Prefer this look to the old skool PJs and earlier skin suits.

The tech/prototype use in downhill will be the death of competition. If the sport does not remain to be about the rider and becomes more about budgets and engineering people will choose not to get involved. I am all for development but if it is not available on the open market it should be kept out of competition. Track side support should also be banned. It is just another advantage that teams that have the budget are exploiting. This condition has been an issue in all forms of motorsports and when the sanctioning body sees a reduction in involvement rules are made. Hopefully the UCI steps in sooner than later. But I doubt they will. The large factory teams will put pressure on the UCI so they do not loose that advantage unfortunately.
Concerning the "skinsuits" we are beginning to see in the world cups, I don't mind them too much, but to be fair I think it's mostly because the downhill athletes are more visually built than their lycra-wearing noodle arms roadies cousins 😅
Joking aside, as long as it doesn't go full skinsuits like the road and the designs stays cool, I'm fine with it.
Yeah we really don't mind the speedsuit in it's current form! Nice bit of innovation. It's not like Downhill athletes haven't been pursuing these gains for a while anyway... remember shorts?!

You're seeing an E-bike on this channel because it was being raced (to some success) at the pinnacle of non e-bike racing in the world! We're hardly reporting on e bike racing and advising you how to fix battery issues on this channel, but when an interesting mountain bike tech concept comes up, we will explore it and talk about it because that's what our interest is 😃
