This is what I thought the monster squad was going to be when I was a kid. The monsters as heroes.
I remember that Madsen once said that he had written a script for a movie called "Shifter" where he was going to play a professional hitman, who had the ability to shapeshift into any human or animal. I don't know what happened, but if they can make a cheesy movie like this one, they could make that, probably for the same budget.
Damn, I created a hero character for an RPG I used to play back in the 90's that was just like that.

A low budget horror movie (I assume it’s low budget) uses the public domain the right way.
It's made by Asylum. Their the company that does most of the SyFy networks awful movies. So yeah, it's low budget. lol

I feel like this would be a neat low budget thing if it wasn't the Asylum doing it. It's a shame, because I feel like with just even a modicum of effort Asylum could be like a Troma or Roger Corman level studio.
Troma has been unwatchable since citizen toxic.
And as I've gotten old, I can even sit through that.
The asylum is doing great, it just needs to spend more time on the script.
I think full moon is still nailing it, even though they dropped to the 1hr format.
Maybe this will be their break out hit they need? Maybe....
Corman didn't make "bad" movies. But, as Ron Howard (who got his first director's job Corman for doing "Eat My Dust") said in doc on Corman, Roger would make a dollar stretch as far as it could. But he also taught up and coming new directors a lot of tricks which, yes, they would use very successfully. Corman is a gem.
Looks like a weird but fun monster movie. Looking forward to it.

Is it getting a cinema release? Being an asylum movie I would of expected it to just be on the SY FY channel. I know they sometimes have special screenings but they are normally responsible for all the big movie rip off low budget movies that are churned out directly for broadcasting on SY FY, usually starring C. Thomas Howell and an array of z-list "celebrities".

@Vulkanprimarch it's only getting a limited select cinema release (as promotion etc) andis going to be VOD (video on demand) and streaming then shown on SY FY later in the year, so highly unlikely they have purchased any tickets for utz and if they have, they have been scanned 👻👹🐺👺💀
All joking aside, this might be low budget, old fashioned and 30 years too late. But hopefully It's going to be epic! Asylum should make more movies like this and not make the usual amateurish lower budget shite they churn out.

Think back to 87' Monster Squad, not only was Baker's suit very expensive and a chunk of the budget, with an Asylum film having much less; but how essential was he for the plot of the entire movie?? "Creature stole my Twinkie." and Horace with a shotgun saves the day and not much else. Plus the story takes place in Europe, his stomping grounds are in the Amazon. So it makes sense.
I grew up watching the universal classic monster movies. Creature from the Black Lagoon will always be my favorite ik we own at least 6 different copy's of it on dvd in my house.

This movie actually doesn't look bad at all. Since the movie is titled Monster Mash, they should use the Monster Mash song by Bobby Pickett for the end credits.
Madsen is actually a great actor. Only his Pal Tarantino puts him in actually quality movies where he ALWAYS steals the show.

OMFG,I have been waiting for just ONE more classic monsters movie,since Van Helsing.I watched Monster Squad,at least once a week when i was a kid.Nothing like the classic monsters, made famous,by greats,like Lon Chaney Jr,Bela Lugosi,Boris Karloff.But THIS is going to be beyond my wildest dreams.Its like a cross of Monster Squad and the Avengers My heart is actually pounding pretty fast right now.
