- During the 1960s, global powers started using second-generation MBTs. But as soon as the first M60s, Leopards and T-62s rolled off the factory floor, engineers of the world started working on improved tanks for the next decade. The USSR was the first to complete this task: their T-64 was cleared for production by the mid 1960s. Meanwhile, the US and Germany poured resources into their joint program known as “MBT-70”. It was supported up until 1970, but later cancelled due to costs and differences in requirements.

The leopard 2A4 will forever have a soft spot in my heart. It's been in service in my home country for over 2 decades and there are still no plans to replace it (in our armored brigade) because that's just not necessary yet. It also looks really good imo specifically because of the flat turret cheeks like it doesn't have to prove anything by looking cool and it is the first tank I ever got to climb on top of in real life. That beast was so much larger in person than I could've even imagined and it made the T-72M1 that was sitting right next to it look small (which it is for a main battle tank, but it is still enormous)!
Well T-72 is indeed small compared to most MBTS. It made her cheaper and easier to build.

@@collander7766 not in Finland it isn't. Not yet at least. As I said, there are no plans to replace it in the Finnish armored brigade as of right now. When the requirement to replace the 2A4 does arise, there's no guarantee we'll get the Eurotank. Maybe we'll get some old 2A5s or 2A6s, maybe M1A1s or M1A2s, maybe even char Leclercs. Who knows? Only time will tell.
@@type-10 Well I mean we do have 2A6s that took the mainline armor role while 2A4s still complement them, and there's a current upgrading process that concerns the FCS in both models
@@type-10 well you just said Leopard, didn't really specify. The Eurotank will at least supersede and replace the Leopard 2 and Leclerc in German and French service, respectively.
The Leopard 2K's 20mm AA piece has been extremely useful against airborne targets, as well as LAV's that would have otherwise needed the main gun's attention. A very effective armament.
It's a pity it only existed on the prototype, a Leo 2 A6 with that 20mm gun would be really badass.
I just love the Leopard 2A4, it gets me used very quickly to the toptier and still a very unique machine at 10.0
By the way, i can't wait to see the Leopard 2A5 PSO, Leopard 2A7, 2A7+ or 2A7V in game!

I love my 2A4. Its quick, powerful, and survivable. It also gets the "Call of the Wild" skin which makes me love the tank even more. A Leo painted like a Leo.
Personally I think you guys should come out with the 2a7 with gen 3 thermals and give the people their SEP packages and also slip in a T-90M for the next top tier major nation MBTs
Wouldn't hurt to not give Russia a new top-tier vehicle for a couple of updates while bringing the others up to their lineup strength
@@Sebastian-yl7nq I have the 2A6, Type 10, and the BVM. The ERA on the BVM is really good and the optics are great, its a great tank, but not invincible. The T-72B3 however does not get relict on the front or turret cheeks even with the UBH package installed, combined with the ass mobility I think a lot of people overestimate the Russian MBTs. The Russians usually win by numbers anyways and I don't think giving them the T-90M (T72 hull with 3kmh reverse speed) would be that much of a leap in performance considering the 2A5 and 2A6 have the same amount of protection and the 2PL with slightly worse protection. I would just like to see a 2A7 to ditch the shitty 1st gen thermals. As for America I said I think they should get SEP packages, that includes a massive upgrade in optics, ERA on the sides, turret armour, and if you really want to go nuts APS.

Germany and Russia dont really need any new top tier MBTs yet. They can wait till next year and be fine. The US has the lowest win rate at top tier right now and the oldest top tier MBT being made in 1986 and put into service in 1992. The Italian ariete was produced in 1995 making it the second oldest mbt from what I can see. Every other nation has their top mbt/upgraded version being made in the current millennium but those 2 nations

How can you turn your camera gently like here in the replays? 0:53 what is the button?
I believe that's just the default camera in the replays but with slow mouse movement, for me the default camera moves in such a smooth motion but I move the camera too fast and it feels worse to use.

Gen 3 is on for example the Tunguska, T80BVM and CV90120

Definetly the 2A4 by the looks and design it's my favourite, it is the first MBT my country had ever used and still being used to this day. I will be looking forward for Leopard Revolution to be added to game in the future!

I would love to see a new leopard 2 top tier tank. The latest add for an leopard 2 at top tier was i think 2 years ago. (2A6M,2A7,+,v,a1...)
Don't forget the Malaysian 2IRS or Spanish 2E or the 2 PSO version with big chonky ERA blocks

Ohhhh the Leopard2! The heavy murder kitty of Germany! My favourite tanks of all time. My love. I am from Hungary and I worked with my father in Tata at the base of the Hungarian Defense Forces. And when we worked on the electric systems of the Tank Hangars I've seen some Leopard2A4s all in their glory. And also I saw a turret which have been removed from the body of the tank. Full with Electronics. This is one my favourite vehicles but definitly my favourite tank. I've started play WarThunder because of this vehicle (and the Radkampfwagen90 and the Centauro). the 2a4 is a mix between both past and future
I tell you, the Strv 122/121 is not fun in the current state of the game due to it's lack of a round that can pen 600mm of armor. It withstand ATGM/AGMs (like most russian tanks can), Laser guided rockets, bombs (IRCM on the T-90), you name it.
Not to mention that the 122A fully spaded is 11K in repair cost, wich is a dang pain to use when you certainly KNOW there is a chance to die either by a BVM, a 90A, BMP-2M, Khrizantema, Ka-52 or Ka-50. Not to mention the BS weapons on the MiG-27s now
I would like to see the Leopard 2SG added into the game. The modifications done this variant should sit nicely between a 2A4 and 2A5.

Leopard 2A7+ which is not in-game, are my favorite variant, its got the bonus hull armor and that sweet 20mm Rh202 autocannon on top of it, instantly got place in my heart the first time i seen it.
Also what about Italy top tier? Their tech tree is lacking, esspecially mid and top tier. Filling it with the C1 Ariete AMV HITFACT Mk.II, M60A3 Leonardo, B2 Centauro, Centauro OTOMATIC, Palmaria SPG, Freccia IFV, OF-40 Mk. III would fill that void pretty nicely.

@@riccardomariani9648 Me too because i main them, their low tier sure not the best, but not the worst either, acctually most of my most fun matches and moments belong to Italy low tier, sadly past 3.3 till 7.7, its lost its originality, sure a few 100% Italian vehicle is here and there, but not much.

The Leopard 2A7 is on the wishlist of many German mains. And to be honest the time has come.
Leopard 2A7 doesn't really feature any big improvement besides slightly better turret protection and thermal imaging systems which wouldn't be that much of an impact. Furthermore DM53 is penetration wise the best shell currently available in German service. So nothing new will come here. In any way it would be a fine addition to Germanys 11.0 lineup as there ain't much vehicles to play on that BR range. If it will be the A7A1 is another question, but I sure hope so.
An example for a vehicle too strong to be added would be the Leopard 2A7V for example as it features additional hull armour plus having war thunders top ammunition.

Leopard 2a4 is always in my heart, I have a fondness for it, it was my favorite tank going back some 15 years before when I was, 10 years old and playing my first "steel beastys gold edition" simulator thinks about how it all gave me goosebumps shortcut, I love leopards

Honestly, I prefer the predecessor with it's bigger gun (though the ammunition is subpar). It had the same 20mm AND an auto loader and the ability to fire ATGMs. If I'm not mistaken, the armour was better too.
I am kind of dissapointed you guys didnt talk about the canadian version of the leopard... you know since we have our own version and its our main battle tank....

In the actual prototype phase, the only main guns being tested were the 120mm gun as well as an 105mm smoothbore also developed by Rheinmetall. The L7 was only used on the AV preproduction vehicles as this was a requirement by the US for the testing there
The leo 2k has to be my favorite. All though it lacks armor at its Br, it’s speed and firepower make it a lot of fun to use. And obviously the 2A5 and 2A6 are exceptional tanks.
I would really like to see the Leopard 2 UrbOp (Leopard 2 PSO-VT). Basically a 2A6M hull with a A4 turret, better armor, better thermals and the L55.
there is so much wrong with that statement. the Leopard PSO demonstrator (Peace Support Operations) is build on a Leopard 2A5 that is hull and turret, because the 2A6M was too heavy for the project. it uses the shorter L/44 cannon of the A5 because it is made for urban combat and the longer cannon would be a drawback in that scenario. It would be interesting due to the increased resistens to chemical projectiles all around and it can mount either a .50cal or 40mm MGL on an remote controlled rool station. And of course it would allow a top tier German MBT to dig in. the A4 is nice, but once you bring that out in a top tier match it means you're in a bad place usually
@@Asgar1205 you are mixing up two versions. The Leopard 2 PSO was developed with Bundeswehr as far as I know never tested and only showed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann as a upgraded. The Leopard 2 PSO-VT is the version tested by the Bundeswehr in the Leopard 2 UrbOp program this results in the development of the Leopard 2 PSO on the A5 and later in the 2A7+.
@@exo068 VT means nothing more than Versuchsträger basically the experimental vehicle of the PSO tests. it's the realistion of the PSO concept that was then tested in cooperation with the bundeswehr but never entered service. the PSO was further developed into the 2A7+ concept and competed with Rheinmetalls 2A7V upgrade concept. well, the 2A7V is in service with the German army. the 2A7+ is not.
@@Asgar1205 yes they tested it with the 2A6M hull and the A4 turret as a proof of concept. The source are contradictory to each other the one says that they use a A4 turret and a 2A6M hull while the other source says that they used a A5. In the end both is possible it is a kit after all and you can mount everything on a different tank except the UrbOp-Module that was the upgraded A4 turret and needed a special hull for it to work.
@@Asgar1205 in the end they could add both because the A5 PRO was built but not tested and but it was a developed in cooperation and the PSO-VT was built and tested.
in warthunder i prefer the K2 leopard, but in real life i much like the A7 leopard. Now if i had to pick one for the end of the world, i would go with the A7, cause it can use soooooo many rounds, its got great armor, good speed and is very very good in snow/mud even sand.

For War Thunder to be better than it already is, the developers just need to include clickable infantry in the terrains! :)
Not just Europe, but the Leo 2 has seen service with countries as far as the Orient. Both the Indonesian and Singaporean armies operate upgraded Leo 2A4s (Leo 2RI and Leo 2SG respectively). In fact, the 2SG is currently my favourite modern MBT, primarily due to nation bias but also because it looks cool as hell hehe.
There’s also the Leopard 2SG. The MBT of Singapore.
and Leopard 2RI. MBT of Indonesian

The 2A5 gets DM53 so why are the Strv 122's still stuck with DM33. They are about the only 11.0 mbt's with less than 500mm pen they are slower than the other leo 2's they still cost too much and the extra armor dosen't make much of a difference or any if you get hit from the side

Great to showcase vehicles but cmon Gaijin. Give the community the chance to communicate again. We won't blame Russia for the invasion, it's actually quite necessary to communicate on the battlefield.
i kind of feel annoyed that you didn't mention the Canadian leopard it was unique in the fact that it had a armored undercarriage to protect agents mines and with it being Canadians only actual tank since 2007 i feel that it should have been motioned.
its things like this that annoy me so many things about Canadas military history are ignored because we aren't a global superpower like the US or the UK i just wish we would get more recognition.
There are so many different variants of the Leopard 2 out there, the video could be several minutes longer just to give an overview about the topic. They didnt, so dont be ashamed. In fact, I thought about Canada, but mainly because of the fact they ("you"?) wanted to get rid of MBTs but took some Leopards in the end.
The mine protection was already there when the Canadians leased the Leopard 2A6M from the Bundeswehr for their Afghanistan mission. The mine protection was developed due to tests done on a normal Leopard 2 hull, that would simulate mine damage (by setting off explosives). This showed several weakness and led to not only the mine protection plate on the bottom of the hull, but changed turret basket, slipring for the turret and torsion bars, as well as eliminating the bottom row of the reserve ammunition rack and installing a decoupled seat for the driver.
What was unique to the Canadian Leopard 2's however, was the slat armor that they fitted for Afghanistan.
