- Hollywood Sign Hike to Burbank Peak and the Wisdom Tree
This hike takes you up behind the iconic Hollywood sign on a 3.5 mile road trip trail that takes you up about 800 feet of elevation. It is a steep trail, so know that going in. Be sure to read signs when parking as well so that you do not get a ticket. It is a really fun Southern California hike with great views though and one of my favorite in the LA area.

I just wanted to say Thank you....we did this hike today with my 3 kids....thank you
So awesome, how was the hike?
Gonna be doing the Hollywood sign hike within a couple months. I’m so excited!
my anxiety was killing me as you walk all the way to the sign i couldn’t wait for you to be back to your car 😂😂😂😂😂😂gosh my stomach i hate heights
haha, thanks for watching it all the way through still!
I was there a couple months ago. We actually hiked all the way from Griffith observatory. Don’t know what we were thinking but so glad so did it! Thanks for sharing! Brings back a lot of memories!
Oh man, I have never hiked all the way from there, I will have to try it one of these days.
Just did it today but in reverse! Starting from the observatory trail, spend about 8hrs, and also visited the observatory
I used to hike all of the way from the Observatory to the Sign. I was crazy. Over 15 years ago, when I lived there. It was illegal at the time too. Ma jeunesse!
How long did that take
Love Wisdom Tree. And I have been there and left the note
I saw the note
Man, I love your videos! I lived in Burbank for years and always meant to hike up to that tree :)
Thanks for watching them! I skipped the hike for a long time as well but it is actually a really nice hike
saw the video yesterday, did the hike today! awesome video :)
Going to Hollywood sign hike today and planning to shoot a vlog.
The easiest way to the sign is just parking at the dog park and walking up. No crazy inclines.
What’s the dog park called?
Thank you for sharing. Trying to decide which trail that I should hike. This one looks great. Mary :)
Great stabilization! Great hike!
Thanks for sharing this video heading to LA next week 😎👍
THANK YOU
Stabilization on the GoPro looks great. Enjoyed this video. Lived in LA county almost all my life and never did that hike. The views would have been better unfortunately all That smoke from the Wolsey fire 🔥 made visibility tough to see.
Yea agreed, the views are not too clear at the moment.
i love the go pro
You make great videos. Thank you.
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
Thank you for the video 😊💙💙💙💙 I've been waiting for this video for so long ❤️❤️❤️
No problem, have fun hiking to the sign if you go!
California Through My Lens thank you ^_^ 💙💙💙
You are amazing man, thanks for the videos..
love your videos. And the stabilization is perfect. I had to give up on another youtube video b/c it was so shakey. It was awful.
So Happy you did this hike, it is all I needed to know about this hike! It is the only hike in CA I will never do, SMOG in each of the long shots is sad.
Yea, I think some of it was lingering from the recent fires but I do wish it would have been a little clearer
You seem fun.
When I did that hike I parked right above lake Hollywood and then walked. I'm not sure if it's the same way you went or not but it seemed easier. But I did not see the Wisdom Tree or that Hugh Hefner plaque, I was looking for it. Next time I go I definitely want to check them out. Thanks for this video! I'd like to see more stuff around Hollywood area. Maybe do one on Runyon Canyon or the lake Hollywood Reservoir. That would be cool. Runyon's a really great Urban hike.
Where on Lake Hollywood did you park? There is only one trail leading up to the mountain to the Wisdom Tree currently. If you got to the summit and made a right instead of a left you would have missed the tree. The Hugh Hefner plaque is located very roughly at 34.1346, -118.32.30. The plaque is on a low rock on the south side of a high trail overlooking Hollywood.
@@AguirrePictures actually we parked on the road right above Lake Hollywood Park. And then took the mount Lee Drive Trail.
Yea, I parked near the intersection of Lake Hollywood Drive and Wonder View Drive so we hiked different trails if you started from Lake Hollywood Park. I have a video on Hollywood coming in the next month hopefully as well.
Please keep up your videos! Love love love!!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Stabilization with GoPro 7 was awesome.
Agreed, the stabilization is really good on it
The music track sound like a Bossa Version of the one I chose for my Hollywood video! :-D
I wish I had known this two years ago lol
great informative vid...the go pro stability is great
I was there today, and the yellow gate is now replace by a black fence with a code pad lock. I thought you need a code or something but nope. I just pulled the door and to my surprise it open. Can you go around it if lock, yes but be carful. If you fall, it would be a good tumble. And the box next to the Wisdom Tree is not there. Maybe it's hidden. But I did not see it. And the flag have seen some better days.
It’s Ka-wen-gah !
Wish I could visit Hollywood
Would like to hike..
Nice video bro
How long was the whole hike!?
I guess 2 hours
Beneath the Hollywood Sign is the Ultimate Warriors’ underground Headquarters.
Very cool! How many times have you done that hike?
Also, can you imagine how pretty that hike would have been 170 years ago, when the population of LA was 1,500 people!?
I have done it only a couple of times. Have you done it? Yea I can't imagine how awesome it would be to hike in the LA area 150 years ago!
Would have been a lot more grizzlies back then! 100% more!
I haven't been to LA since I was a kid in 1983. Saw the Hollywood sign, but didn't get to hike to it.
Went for a hike behind the sign for sunset, when were coming back was sooo dark and no people around, I was thinking im in a horror movie
Crazy, I have never been up there for sunset myself
I used to think all the movies are made behind this sign and all those celebs live their as well . Behind that sign I mean 😆😆😆
buat jalan enak nih...tapi apa bisa semua orang bisa kesana
Thnks !!!!
Oh ya! Way too steep for me. Anyway of getting to that road behind the sign ? Without having to go through all those really steep trails u just did ?
Can anyone tell me the location to park or share any GPS coordinates so I can get there.
Just look up Burbank peak on google maps
Nice go pro pics
At 1:11, I see your hiking "shoes". Shoulda worn serious hiking boots! Right? In the future, for a bit of more adventure at the trail head 0:53 go left(powerline trail to getty trail to wisdom tree) instead of right(burbank peak trail to wisdom tree).
How long is the hike? Do you have a specific address where you can park your car
+1
Lake Hollywood Drive. About 2-3 hrs round trip. Wear boots have fun. Peace 2021.
Hello! how much time did it take you going up and down? Thanks
Awesome video as always, we hiked to the Hollywood sign back in August for the first time. Loved the views every step of the way. How early in the morning did you do this?
I actually did in at around 10 AM on a Monday and it was not too busy.
This was very helpful! Thank you very much. Can you tell what actual address you used? I'm going to uber there! Thanks much!
snooki and jwoww were here
Fck them
BTW, a cool hiking spot in Griffith are Amar's Garden, Ferndell and the Haunted Picnic Table. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips, I haven't been there but it sounds like a cool spot to check out next time!
I know about the amir's garden but what's the haunted picnic table? That sounds interesting.
It's a picnic table with a tree "collapsed" on top of it. It fell around 1970's on top of a couple making out. Google map used to have it pinpointed, but no more. It's located about a few hundred feet north of the Mt. Hollywood drive & Vista Del Valle Dr trail crossing. The bloggers from "Oddity Odysseys" have a video exploring that spot. Have fun.
@@trexinvert Cool, Thanks!
Great video. The audio on the video is great. Is it from GoPro 7? Or did you connect an external mic.
Thanks! Audio was all from the GoPro with no additional attachments. It is pretty good as long as there is not any wind, then it def struggles.
Anyone who has done this trail: how much time did it take you?
Can you fly a drone anywhere near there?
I was trying to find that information out but I am still not 100% sure. There was a lot of helicopter traffic near the sign when I went.
Josh, thanks for another great video. Question...............................what is it that you have holding your DSLR camera to your backpack? Is it some kind of clip? I've been looking for a way to carry mine on my hikes instead of taking photos with my Iphone.
iguillo hey it’s called the Peak Designs clip, you can find it here - Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 (Black with Plate) www.amazon.com/dp/B07818LB9D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FvS9Bb5XN23DP
Ah! Okay. I'm definitely gonna look into getting one. Thanks!
No problem, I really love mine!
How long was the whole hike?
Can I get a link to this music that you used in the video?
when did you went on this trip (which time of the year) because it didn’t seem that busy?
It was in November of 2018 on a weekday
Any recommended times to avoid crowds?
If you can go on a weekday it is not bad. This was from last Monday. I wouldn't try on a weekend unless you can get there early though as the parking def fills up
Weekdays and late afternoons are best. Plus since the trail is exposed you save yourself hiking up in direct sun, just bring lights if staying after sunset.
my dream is to get here
#hollywood
Guys I have a question. Would like to do this with my little one - 5 years. You think it’s possible? Been 12 times in LA but never up.
Another question 😆 snakes possible? If yes - forgot the first question.
Wonder View Trail to Wisdom Tree & Hollywood Sign is likely not a good first hike for 5 year old as there are steep ascents/descents requiring sure footing and hand holds; encountered California Kingsnake atop ridgeline this month May 2023. Suggest Innsdale Trail to Mulholland Hwy to Mt Lee Dr to Hollywood Sign with it dirt and paved fire roads and great views of Hollywood Sign.
@@alrocky thanks - is there another solution?
@@zuma78cali78 Family friendly trail: Innsdale Trail to Mulholland Hwy to Mt Lee Dr to back of Hollywood Sign. AllTrails for more info and map. Alternatively hike around Griffith Observatory and pose between Wings of Mexico sculpture near parking lot restrooms.
@@zuma78cali78 There's hour 40 minute YT of Innsdale Trail to Hollywood Sign by Hike Word that shows entire route. Play at 2x speed or skip ahead.
The stabilization looks good. The color seems off, particularly your face and arms.
Ya I know what you mean, it looks like I have some type of face smoother on or something haha
it's illigal to cross the fence
Wasn’t there a story about a body found at the Hollywood sign, ? should have talked bout it

Did you park at lake hollywood park? And where did you go after that? Which route/street to the trail head? Thanks so much.
Check out this post I wrote for more information and let me know if you still have questions californiathroughmylens.com/hiking-hollywood-sign-wisdom-tree
Any snakes up there? lol🐍 🐍
Exactly what I was thinking. I pretty much know every acre of this park and I've rarely come upon snakes. However, it's the "east" side trails leading to wisdom tree where I hear most rattlesnake reports.
I saw a sign that said there could be snakes on the trail but I didn't see any
I've hiked this trail a ton and have seen snakes 2 times, but they were not rattlesnakes which do occupy Griffith Park. Also, 1 coyote down near the bottom on the eastern side of the trail.
Steep and uneven? No thanks.
