- In this TouchDesigner tutorial we look at how we can use audio data and CHOPs to manipulate a wide variety of sketches. This also works with the audiodevicein.
As I quickly touch upon in the video - the input can be anything, not just extracted audio data. MIDI, TDAbleton, Beat CHOP channels work very well.

I've been cludging around with audio interactivity - this was the video I needed! Game changer for me. Grateful as always for your videos.
Easily one of the best tutorials for TD thank you! I reference this repeatedly while learning.
Incredible tutorial - so comprehensive! Even as an absolute beginner with TD I was able to follow along with your process and understand the objects and signal flow.
Can't believe that I managed to make a particle displacement art that reacts to a kanye song in 2 days using touchdesigner for the first time in my life all thanks to you and your tutorials.
I managed to make my little artwork danced to the beat in such a short time thanks to your super clear instruction. It's amazingly helpful and super straight to the point. Thank you SO SO much Bileam! Appreciate it so much
Ive just been copypasting the chop part from the audioreactive particle cloud but this is some other level ! Thanks man, keep it up !
so amazing! much to unpack and experiment with in here :) thanks!
amazing intro into this program that i k ow i’m going to go down deep rabbit holes. thanks so much
It was very helpful and easy to understand, thank you a lot!
so much good info in here. thank you
Great job - Again!
great, as always
Best channel for learning touchdesigner. Keep Pushing M8 and ty.
fr bruh, bileam da goat, changin my life
Fantastic! Thanks so much!
Still so helpful. Thanks!!!
So helpful! thank you
I was just about to dig through your playlist for this specific tut and saw this got uploaded. COINCIDENCE or you read my mind? XD
Thanks a lot for this. :)
yeaaah! the pure attitude!
Many many thanks!
Hi Bileap! This video is a great help for learning how to make things audio reactive. I want to make a group of particles that start of in a shape of a circle, which later disperse, and then regenerate into a shape of a circle again, with the whole motion being audio reactive (disperses and regenerates on beat/every two beats). I also want them to switch positions each time. Which command should I apply to the amplitude of the noise CHOP for it to happen, and for switching the positions, should I do that on limit or on geo?
Here's the map for it so far:
Circle-->Noise on top, sop to on bottom-->both connected to math-->limit (CHOP: math1)-->geo-->render
Camera is on limit and render.
Damnnnnnn!!! this is awesome It helped me a lot 😂😂 this video is crazy i love it so much❤❤❤❤
great tutorial
Bless you!!!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
감사합니다.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much
Thaaaaanks king!!!
Yeeeeah that's what I need
muchas gracias !!!
Could you please make a tutorial on how to start with creating generative audio using touch designer? It would be a huge help for my upcoming project 😫❣️
If you turn on derivative slope / on noise output, you get a crispy colored fractal and if you want to make it mono, then change res to 32bit mono
Really nice overview!
At 11:53, you make a null CHOP with just a click, seemingly without opening the operator menu... How!? :D
Edit: Googled a bit more and found it! Alt+N on the active node
Hi! Thank you! I've been trying it out with replacing Audio File In with Osc In (over max msp) but it's not working so good with Osc In as with Audio File In - I was using it for making video audio responsive. Is it because the osc in messages are a bit lagged and too much to process when making a video audio responsive? The Osc In is working fine when I am doing it with noise but not with a video.
have you done a video on audio reacting to particles that are affected by a kinect?
Amazing video! Im curious about the opposite? Converting video / motion data into audio. Is this something you know anything about? or can you point me in the right direction?
i have a question:
i want to make the particles react to the loudness and speed of the audio, is it possible in touchdesign to call out a variable that stores this information and use it to manipulate the movement of the particles depending on the the value of the loudness of the audio, like making the particles generate in wider space as the audio loudness increase.
Hey, so just a question about the Envelope normalizing technique, im finding that even when there is no audio im getting values when utilizing the envelope and math normalization, which can cause issues with electronic music and "breaks",
if i trail the analyaze before it goes into the "normalizier" it stays at 0 as expcected.
im not sure if im doing it wrong although its super striaghtforward so maybe im just misunderstanding something, but would love to still use this technique, or use a diffrent "automatic" normalizing one.
Love your channel brother, thank you so much!
Hi, i asked on the TD forum and got 2 solutions. Sharing for all beginners :)
just search > "audio-device-in-never-return-true-0" < on google, with the quotes (as i can't share the link). Enjoy !
is it possible to import letterforms or any complicated shapes other than a circle or normal shape? thanks!
could you do one specifically using td ableton audio out plz? im not getting the audio to come out but it does react to my project, and i can see that the audio is moving in touch designer, the only audio is coming directly from ableton 11.
Hi Bileam! Been loving your tutorials and have learnt so much on TD the past few months :)
Very quick question: Is it possible to trigger audio with a RealSense camera and motion detection? I'm currently making an installation and am super stuck atm!
Can you elaborate?
@@elekktronaut I’m attempting to trigger an audio file using motion-sensing with a RealSense camera.
I have an interactive particle installation where the particles follow the user’s hands as they move.
I was hoping to incorporate an audio file to be triggered with the user’s movements as well!
Is this possible to do? Sorry if that was a confusing description!
@@teleclipse8489 Hi! I am looking to create a similar effect but with a Kinect 2.0 where the point cloud of the user is being effected by the music - did you manage to get yours working? Thanks!
I also have the same question! Can I create audio that reacts to a person's movement (with Kinect, for example) and this audio, in turn, causes the images to react? Thank you @elekktronaut !!!
I'm so close witht his tutorial but I can't get the scaling correct. I'm getting such a low value output and when I use maths multiplyer to scale it up thats screwing things up. Is there a stable way to just boot the "gain" on the signal to convert to a better trigger threshhold?
Woah.
hello this skill can make like every my finished work in TD can be audio visual ?
Hi how can I pick up different parts of a track? Like switch between the audio reacting to the kick and snare, to reacting to the bassline or a synth instead. I hope this makes sense, thanks
Hey man so audio works in such a manner it's a spectrum of sound so isolating parts of the sounds you want is a way to go
Hi! I can't figure out what you write in the fan1 channel numbers (at 9:40), because I can't see the last part of the expression you wrote and I keep getting an error.
Can anybody help? :)
How do I fix the warning I get on chopto1 - insufficient number of Chanel’s for desired pixel format
If i drag the null (circlepos) on the radius or transition, i get an error: "float argument must be a string or a number, not 'td.nullCHOP'". I rewatched the Video 10 Times but i dont find a mistake. I also get the same output. What am i doing wrong? Would be nice, if you could help me with that.
Don't drag the null. Make the null active by either selecting it and pressing "a" on your keyboard or just the little star like symbol on the bottom right of the op and then drag the channel onto the parameter
@@elekktronaut thanks! I stuck on this in my project
еще бы на высокие так же бы было
is this project file available on your patreon?
yes every project file is on my patreon :)
Hey! is this tutorial suitable for MAC OS users?
Yes!
my pc will explode
