Being raised in Texas where virtually everyone else is not-so-smart increased his ego even more. Mary contributed in a way by making him go to church where he got plenty of reinforcement on how not-smart everyone else was, but he'd have a huge ego no matter who raised him or where he was raised. Even Germany didn't keep him humble forever.

    Mary's comeback about the pope's expensive car made me laugh... I know some baptists don't drink, but is there really no dancing at their wedding receptions? I guess I've never been to a Baptist wedding lol ...As a Catholic it's funny that this baptism would still be valid in the Catholic Church, so they didn't "save" cici from being Catholic at all 😂. Idealy there'd be a ceremony with a priest and Godparents, but baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit an with water makes it a valid Catholic baptism. In the case of near death the Church allows baptism without consent of the parents, but in the circumstance depicted here it's totally NOT okay to baptize someone's child behind their back or against their will.

      This show and the BBT get ALOT wrong about Baptists. We're a spectrum from the Independent Baptists who can have some really strict beliefs and actually have given birth to some strange sects and cults like the Westboro Baptists to middle of the road Baptists like myself that don't say you HAVE to be a teetotaler or prohibit dancing etc. to really liberal Baptists who are more like mainstream Protestantism than evangelicals. I go to an Southern Baptist Church and we're pretty conservative on the essentials of Christianity but libertarian on issues like dancing and drinking, leaving those issues up to the individual Christian. One thing I did agree with Mandy's mom was that Jesus made water into wine not grape juice and He probably danced at the wedding also.

If Pastor Jeff had of been a good pastor he would've told Mary to cool her jets and that all they're doing is getting the baby wet in front of family and friends because Baptists don't believe that baptism saves you but putting your faith in Christ does. Again a good pastor would've told her she's being silly and just to be a good influence on CC so she can make that decision for herself when she's older.

    0:16 How could you not remember that?
    I don't like this religious feuding. They don't exactly follow their own religions very well (Mary lies a lot, Mandy's mom is slow to forgive, and they both baptized their grandbaby without her permission or the parents' permission). Besides, this show was supposed to be about Sheldon and his scientific adventures. It was not supposed to be about 2 women arguing over religion. This is exactly why the show is ending this year, because the writers completely lost sight of how this show started and what made it so successful in the beginning. It could have gotten renewed again if they kept the focus on Sheldon.
    Fun fact: the last scene in this video is 2nd, and final time that Missy appears. That's the best thing about this episode

  • @billhope2596
    @billhope2596 Před měsícem

    The thing that always gets me about the writers for both the Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon is they REALLY don't get what Mary's actual beliefs are being a Baptist. They've just taken what they think are stereotypical Southern Christian beliefs, which can be on a spectrum from conservative but sane to semi "Holy Roller" in some of the stuff that Mary says. As a Christian who is in the Baptist tradition we'd never make a huge fuss over in an interfaith Catholic/Protestant marriage if the baby was baptized because we don't believe that baptism saves anyone but Jesus does and all that infant baptism does is get the baby wet in front of their family and friends. We wouldn't be sneaking around doing an infant baptism either because a person needs to make a conscious profession of their faith in Christ so it's not until someone is way older and can understand the significance of the ordinance. A good pastor, which Jeff is not, would've told Mary to cool her jets, let CC get a little bath and tell her to be a good influence in her life so she can make that decision herself when she's older. Also about the drinking thing--not all Baptists are teetotalers. It's a conscience and a Christian Liberty issue. I personally will have the occasional glass of beer or wine because that has never been my issue and I've had those with other Christian brothers and sisters but I can stop at a glass or two. Now with my brothers and sisters I know have an issue I won't drink in front of them because I don't want to be a stumbling block for them and have them fall off the wagon. While Mandy's mom is a pain I'd agree with her that Jesus made water into wine not grape juice.

If you say we worship the pope then you are ignorant and dont know anything about what they believe, Catholics worship Jesus and follow the Bible. I get so annoyed when we hate on each other rather than just agree to disagree and love each other.

      BIG difference, sure some shared beliefs but different values, organized different, different rules, leadership. Even within catholics there are congregations and organization who's values and way of interpreting the religion might differ. You could almost say same language but different country. Even if England and US speak english and share a history their cultures and countries are waaay different, similar situation with different christian religions

      Super abridged version:
      Christianity includes Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant.
      Within Protestantism, there is Baptist, Evangelical, Anglican, Lutheran, "nondenominational" and tons more.
      The answer to your question depends on what and who you are talking about. Protestants have such wide range of beliefs regarding Christianity. Whereas, Catholics have to submit to Rome (the Pope) and the official Church Teaching.
      Ultimately, the main difference is Catholicism is true and Protestantism of any kind is wrong.

      Catholics ARE Christians. Everyone who sees Jesus Christ for a Messiah, is a Christian. Not all Catholics recognise Vatican - only the Roman Catholics (the majority of all Catholics) For example, the Greek Catholic Church doesn't recognise the Vatican' Pope but they are still Catholics.

    • @AaAa-pf7tj
      @AaAa-pf7tj Před měsícem

      Catholics are Christians. Anyone who sees Jesus Christ for a Messiah, is a Christian. Muslims also respect Christ but as a normal prophet not Messiah. - Not all Catholics recognise Pope/Vatican. The biggest group does, those are Roman Catholic. For example, members of the Greek-Catholic Church don't recognise Pope. - Protestants have pastors, who can marry. At some P, a pastor can be female and/or LGBTIQ too. C have only-male priests, who cannot marry, should live in celibate, no beard. Orthodox are the third big group (mostly Eastern Europe, Russia, less elsewhere) - only-male priests, can marry, always have long beards. C & O have monks & nuns usually living in monastery (nowadays not all of such) and P I'm really not sure if they have those two at all. C make the sign of cross with 2 fingers, O with 3 fingers. O usually use calendar 2 weeks after C & P (Christmas is in 7th January) Divorce is very hard to get in both C & O - you can remarry in Church only if your ex marriage-partner died in meantime or you get a special permission from Vatican (at O & non-RC C, from the headquarter of each 'national" Church) For P divorce is available anytime, that Henry something king of England had made England P so he could get wives one after another. - P don't have statues in churches, C & O do. Some P sects (fundamental Mormons) have polyginy, which is absolutely impossible at C & O. Since early '60s last ct, women don't have to wear headscarf in C church - but at some P & O churches they still do, IK for sure a female can't enter some O churches without covering hair. - C & O pray to Mary & saints, kinda as to "middle-men" but P no. Some USA-P think that praying to those & having statues in church is idolatry. In P (not in other two!) anyone can make own Church & call itself a prophet or whatever, that makes way to many sects, cults & other religious abuse. No C & O circumcise male-babies, they see that as part of Judaism & Islam. - P churches are very simple outside & inside, you can make a church out of the barn but in C & O you can't. - Some P churches (definitely not all !!) are okay with LGBTIQ people, C & O are usually more conservative. All three are conservative about the question of abortion.

  • @clownfromspongebob3979

    As a religious person myself, I don’t like seeing babies and little kids baptized. They have no idea what they’re doing and they don’t fully understand the entire concept. Being baptized is a very important thing to do. It means that you’re filling accepting Jesus into your heart and that you won’t hide your Christianity. Babies and little kids don’t fully get that concept.

First, Mandy, seems (I might be wrong on this) to be more on her mother's side here than on Mary and this would make sense. Second and more importantly, however, as Pastor Jeff correctly said Baptists do not do infant Baptism, I am going to use the term christening, from here on out to avoid any more confusion. Meaning both Mary and Pastor Jeff are violating their own rules and faith because of their anti-catholic bias. Whereas it is normally for Catholics to christen babies and has been doing so for hundreds of years. Also, because of this, CC christening would not be "recognized/legal" under Baptist church policy.
