  • I played Final Fantasy X for the first time earlier this year and oh boi was it a wild ride.
This game has some of the most gorgeous cutscenes I've ever seen, and I loved the quirky characters and their development, the hilarious interactions, the mesmerizing soundtrack, the thought-provoking themes, the plot-twists, and the extremely emotional moments. Overall, it was a very special experience that I will treasure for a very long time ♡
Also, I want Auron to adopt me.

Because saying “I love you” isn’t a part of the culture, many traditionnal or old couples express their love in other ways. Most of the time, their love is expressed through actions instead of words.
When it comes to saying words of affection, some people might do this by expressing their gratitude to their significant other.
While the wordありがとう(arigatou) means “thanks” and doesn’t translate to “I love you” in any way, it can be said in a way that subtly expresses your feelings.

So many emotional moments throughout this game and one of the great things about it is that the heartwarming moments end up making the heartbreaking and emotional moments that much more impactful when they arrive because you have established a connection to these characters therefore it means that much more when your hit with them, that was what happened for me at least.
In terms of the ending cutscenes, one of the most emotional moments (because theirs a lot lol) for me is when Yuna whistles and this time Tidus doesn't come running to her like they had promised each other earlier that they would do if one of them was in trouble, to see her just whistling over and over when she knows deep down he isn't coming back for her is just...… damn, it's like right in the middle of this emotional cutscene you get punched right in the gut with that part as well.

It is sad to think that the titled "High Summoner" were granted posthumously to onerous summoner whom have gone through arduous pilgrimage and to finally give their life and the sacrifices of their closest tied Guardian in order to defeat sin through conventional way. It has been a custom tradition that has been practised for an aeon in Spira thus the notion of becoming high summoner surmounts to the conviction of giving one's life in exchange for the short decade of peace for them citizens of Spira as Yuna says "Don't say it is not worth it" when Tidus attempt to rebuke by questioning the worth of a great perilous jouney to ultimately giving one's life for 10 years of peace. I know the plot is designed in such but truly those post summoner could've figured out that the stupid Final Aeon rites to reset Yu Yevon's construction of sin via Yunalesca is a dumb way.

They are all mind controlled to be happy martyrs for everyone's sake. ITs a very hard thing to convince them otherwise. I'm sure Auron and Tidus wasn't the only guardians to convince their summoners otherwise. It took Tidus to come into existence to convince Yuna otherwise. He himself is a dream manifestation of the all the AEONs that were killed endlessly in this loop for thousands of years grew tired of the cycle of sacrifice and death in exchange for temporary hope (peace). It was the AEONs will to break the cycle and it can only be done by convincing the summoner to find another way to kill Sin permanantly.

    • @nispelsm
      @nispelsm Před 3 lety +8

@@KiseiruYoshioka You are overlooking the fact that the summoners were not brainwashed. Literally no one, not even the highest members of the Order of Yevon, knew of any other way to defeat Sin, permanently or otherwise. If you dig a little into the lore, there were many summoners in the past who DID try other ways to defeat Sin, but failed and died anyway, only without bringing The Calm for their efforts. Quite literally, the only way Yuna and her guardians were able to defeat Sin was because of Tidus' connection to the (barely) human soul of his father. Without that "in", they would never have gotten close enough to Sin with the airship to even attempt to bring it down.

The second the Final Aeon twist is revealed, is when this game goes from a dark, but still adventurous journey to the biggest amount of subtext realization I've ever seen. Rarely does a twist completely recontextualize your entire journey quite like that one, and the flashback of Yuna's sphere hammers it home, just how oblivious we all were.
And if that wasn't enough, *it's not even the only one.*
FFX may have the "first installment I played bias" in my mind, and I may not have finished it myself for so long and known its twists ahead of my own final playthrough, but it's still a goddamn masterpiece of a story to me.

    • @Djou-Karl

What I like about FFX is how the world building is so well thought. It's one of the few "futuristic" setting RPGs where it makes sense that the main character wields a sword and not a gun. It's also one of few games where due to how the story is constructed, the "let's defy fate" trope is justified (and subverted).
I usually am baffled at this kind of narrative because the characters mostly end up servicing a plot, instead of feeling like the story happens as a result of their actions, but in FFX's case the societal acceptance of Sin and a summoner's pilgrimage has conditioned the world into accepting its fate. This game is brilliant.

"As Yuna was performing her incantations, Tidus's body started shimmering. He looks at Yuna, embarrased that his secret was now been revealed. Yuna shakes her head in disbelief:
    "No", she mutters.
"Yuna, I have to go" Tidus, bitterly stating the inevitable.
Disbelief makes way to denial, as Yuna shakes her head once more, like an innocent child would: she was not gonna have it.
Tidus tries to downplay the obvious: "I'm sorry I couldn't show you Zanarkand", pitifully, and then starts to walk away.
He makes a brief pause to throw a shy goodbye at everyone, then he resumes his determined departure.
"We're gonna see you again?!?, yells Rikku, unsettled, as Tidus kept walking.
The absence of an answer was crystal clear: they were not going to.
As Yuna watches her lover walk away, still struck in disbelief, unsettlement makes way to anxiety, which then makes way to anguish. Time's up: at the very last moment, her anguish yields to panic.
Yuna runs to Tidus. Her moanings are those of a loving heart desperately crying out for the warmth of reciprocity.
She throws herself into Tidus's arms, but alas only to be met by a ghostly embrace: she passes right through him and fall on the ground.
As Tidus's whisps slips through her delicate fingers, evaporating towards the sky, Yuna's dawning realization can be clearly read onto her face: her lover is already gone.
Broken, but still managing to keep her gracious composture, she painfully proceeds to stand up. Chin high, she looks towards infinity like she was contemplating a future that would never come to be, and on an utterly sincere but resigned tone, she gently mutters one last protest:
    "I love you"

@@GearheadGeisha Haha theirs not many games out there or things in general to be fair that I'm a fanboy or super fanboy for but FFX is most definitely one of these things, theirs so much to learn and ponder about with this game, this world and all the characters both main characters and side ones that even now, almost 20 years after playing it the first time, every time I find a new cutscene I haven't seen before or learn something new about the game I'm still incredibly excited, it's just one of them games and things for me, I can't get enough of it.
If you would please, "Listen to my story" :P.
I first played FFX in 2002, I was 8 years old at the time and had just gotten a ps2 for Christmas (I believe it was Christmas, may have been earlier) but I remember my mum saying "I know you don't usually play games like this (I was playing wrestling and other sport related games and some adventure games at the time, basically just imagine the kind of games an 8 year old would like to play at that time) so I wasn't really seriously into RPGs and probably didn't even know at the time what RPG and especially JRPG stood for and meant haha) but I thought you might like this" (something along those lines can't remember her exact words).
Now FFX was released in May of 2002 here in Europe (I'm from England by the way) so this was a relatively new game and after a while of not bothering with it, I thought what the heck and put the disk in and sure enough I was a bit lost getting use to the sphere grid, the turn based combat and gameplay in general, following the story, getting use to the characters etc and I got stuck on what I now look back on as some of the easier bosses in the game for instance I remember getting stuck on the first sin boss battle as part of "operation mi'ihen", when I go back now it's not much of a challenge but I remember as an 8 year old sitting there at a friends house at the time trying to figure out how to beat the boss. It got to the point where I have to admit, I had to get the strategy guide because some parts of the game whether it be the puzzles or bosses, i just couldn't work out for the life of me at the time how to beat them lol. I remember being really shook by the cutscene in Luca where Auron reveals the identity of sin and me being in disbelief with my favourite song in the game "Wandering Flame" playing in the background, amazing. So many memories playing this game including both the heartwarming moments and the tearful emotional ones. Just a great great game and the older I get (I'm 25 as of writing this comment) the more I appreciate it and appreciate (and this may sound overdramatic but oh well) how much it has given me and in some ways helped shape me as a person (for instance, now as a hobby I enjoy writing (or rather trying to write haha) fantasy stories and coming up with my own characters and worlds). You know they say sometimes things are meant to be? Well I felt that was the case for me with this game, by sheer chance my mum bought me this game as a present despite the fact she knew I didn't really play those kind of games at the time and now here I am almost 20 years later sharing my story of how I came to appreciate this game. I have no doubt that If I am lucky enough to have children in the future that I will show them and try to persuade them to play this game and hopefully if I'm lucky they will enjoy almost if not as much as I do.
Thanks for reading, take care :).

I was a late bloomer when I first started this game at 20, nevertheless it was the first story based game I had ever played. Found the game play to be relatively easy, but the story was so enthralling. And it's funny you mention the scene at Luca with Auron giving the big reveal, because I remember that being the moment the first time I played through where I told myself "I must finish this game no matter what." That was only the beginning! So much and more happened, endearing, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and even hilarious events came to follow and by the time I had finished Home, I knew this would be one hell of a ride!

PerpetualChristopher love that moment too. I see it as a little nod that it was Kimahri who helped Auron honour his promise to Braska when he died. Kimahri protected Yuna ever since. Just because a dying man asked him to. I’m really glad Auron took a moment to acknowledge that as he left.

It was really touching because nobody cares about Kimari (even de writters, poor Kimari has like...10 lines in the whole game) but here was Auron basically saying "you matter, I trust you"

Final Fantasy X came out in 2001, as of the time I'm posting this that's 18 years ago. That's a generational gap right there. I was in highschool when this game came out. Some of my fondest memories, short of the game itself, was me and my friends all racing to see if we could completely fill up the sphere grid before the other.
This game definitely had some flaws, but back then, graphically speaking, this game was absolutely stunning on the PS2. The game really capitalized the hardware in a way that few games had or ever would. It puts a big smile on my face that newer, younger gamers are still giving this game a run through.

Are you insane!!! This game had absolutely ZERO flaws. It's a perfect 10 out of 10 game. This game was made in a golden age of gaming back when people put passion into stuff and not trying to please people on instagram through likes, hash tags and followers. No game will ever compare to this

This game has helped me cope with life. I was 10 and at GameStop with my mom and brother, when mom said we could pick 1 game I got excited. While browsing through their selections I came across this game and was fascinated with tidus’s sword. I beat the game by the time I was 12 and since then have played through multiple times. Now 13 years later life has changed so much, but the lessons I’ve learned from this game have stayed the same. Truly an amazing story and musical score.

THANK YOU! I see just the beginning of that scene used out-of-context so often as an example of bad VA in video games, or bad english dubs, etc. when they're missing the entire point of the scene. It's supposed to be bad. He's being silly, humoring Yuna to cheer her up. Then she joins him, and they wind up _genuinely_ cracking each other up, because they're a couple of silly adorable dorks and I WANT TO HUG AND PROTECT THEM BOTH JUST LET THEM BE HAPPY

Well, it is somewhat similar to watching Aeris in FF7 on her knees with her hands together in prayer position looking her innocent self when Sephiroth drops down with his sword to impale her and her head falls to the side, her hair unravels and the materia in her hair tinks on the ground and the melody that will force the water out of your face like a brook, well maybe not that fierce but it was also an emotional scene. It's going to be even harder to watch with remake.
