one of 2 things, Either they ask like 100 people and pick out 10 that are the dumbest + in US the mostly learn about US, in history they only rougly learn about worldwide history but they mostly focus on US history, same goes for Geography. If you ask US person to name you every single state, they would have no issue with that but when you ask them to name a single European, Asian or African country, they wouldnt be able to tell Spain apart from France.

I'm European myself, so I'm not trying to hold a candle for the US here, but I'm pretty sure that if you ask enough people here in Europe - doesn't matter which country - you'll find more than enough idiots as well. Here in Austria we had (maybe still have, I don't know) a radio segment where they interviewed people with stupid questions, and those got answered wrongly as well. Stuff like "Sind Sie dafür dass die Schneefallgrenze angehoben wird?" (Are you in favor of raising the snow line?). And yes, people demanded that the snow line has to rise. And questions like that were a daily segment... so... yeah...

@@pixel-rageunbound1935 So, what about the questions which were related heavily to USA geography or history?
Also, why every time some internet video points how lacking is the knowledge (that's not intellect, knowledge is learned, and nobody is born with it) in regard to geography in the United States, somebody try defending it with 'but foreigners cannot name the US states'. First due to the exposure to the US culture via movies, series and such I can name at least 3 ... not to say most of them.
Second, can you name all of the regions and other separate parts of China or Russia? If we're talking size difference (because most times when somebody say, 'can you point the regions of a certain European country', US defenders state that their country is bigger) - China is two, nearly three times as big as the States and also have a bit more inhabitants, while Russa have a bit more land mass, like four times bigger.
I won't argue about the video, there are a lot of uneducated people, in my country there are plenty with finished 8th grade who know only how to write their name and to work as slaves. Which just shows that you need good education for a country to be prosperous.

I've just spent a lot of time thinking about whether people should be kept in school rather for longer than for shorter when in doubt, and kept coming to the conclusion that the former is better. @@camelopardalis84 The educational system in the U.S. is in dire need of a complete overhaul. Programs such as "No Child left behind" and state level standardized testing have proven to be a detriment. These programs have created a culture where teachers are forced to "push" Students through that should be held back. I personally have had 11th and 12th grade students in my classes who have had less than a 4th grade knowledge of math, no knowledge of everyday things needed to survive such as counting money, reading a analog clock, how to type a correctly formatted business letter or resume. 25 years ago, the average G.P.A. of a 12th grade student was 2.5 or higher, today the average is 1.5.

If a child wants to learn these days, they will. There is so much available for free on the internet. Although far from perfect the problem is not just with the schools or teachers. We have a lot of neurologically damaged kids resulting from drug and alcohol exposure while in the womb. If there's any single problem it's that America doesn't teach sex ed, including what's going on in the pregnant womb.

Then again, the standards we look at are European and East Asian. I can easily have a chat with him on subjects he should handle, like central bank policies, international geopolitics involving rare earth metals, semiconductor industry supply chains, bioinformatics in healthcare and so on; he doesn't always have a well shaped opinion but he knows that and both can and wants to ask very good questions on subjects at hand. He doesn't make up stuff if he doesn't know it. (I absolutely don't need to worry him knowing where various countries in a discussion are, or how elementary maths work.) At the same time I know he struggles; he has trouble with differential equations and written Chinese as his fourth language, for instance. He's basically perfectly average student in his school and that's... concerning.
Maybe I shouldn't be so worried of him. Maybe I should be worried of the Western society; if Americans don't get a grip and rid of their rampant anti-intellectualism... it won't be a good outcome for any of us.

Don't worry Vicki, some of us millennials and other generations are actually sick of it and still passing the written teachings of our grandparents down and opting out of schooling to homeschool instead. 🫖The kids all think they know everything these days, they've forgotten all of the true basic knowledge about life in favour of this mental "modern" mush they're being fed instead off of television, extremist groups, schools and the internet. They think it's all real and it's not, it's just entertainment and other people trying to influence their minds. They also don't seem to learn because they lack the focus and discipline which we received because, whether rightly or wrongly, being smacked and verbally disciplined when very necessary made us focus and snap out of being self-absorbed. Yes, it felt a bit unfair at the time as a kid, but the LONG TERM BENEFITS far outweighed that. But because nobody wants to make these kids do anything which makes them feel even the slightest bit uncomfortable, they are all soft and self-absorbed. They have incredible egos where they each think they are made of gold and untouchable because of their rights. It's making them (and the UK and America) weak and vulnerable and I've said it since day one when I was a teenager and my friend told me about the laws coming in to force kids to attend school for public brainwashing.
It's embarrassing that half of our generation never even attended school (most of us self-educated and if you may recall, the papers were going wild about our generation) and yet we are still more knowledgeable and self-sufficient in many more areas than these kids who are supposed to be being educated properly when our development at the same ages are compared. I was working at 12 years old on a farm with horses earning cash-in-hand money to buy my cigarettes, coca cola at the pubs and dog food as a child. I used to ride a bike 5 miles out to get to the farm and 5 miles home almost every day. I know many would say it wasn't ideal because a lot of people are lazy and soft now, but I learnt money management skills, physical benefits and the value of money only through those kinds of early experiences. Some of these kids are doing the same, but it's making money through online platforms and they never physically get to handle the money and learn the true value of money and how to enjoy manual labour as well as the value of human connections instead of viewing everything as a chore in life or as though it should just be handed to them on a silver platter with ease. Everything is being done online, but the internet just isn't real life.
I don't know, but I'm teaching my future kids about real life at home.

I'm an early Millennial - the education I received in school was utterly inferior to the one my parents received: and I watched - even as a child - education become worse in that I knew I was expected to memorize answers for tests; without understanding the material. I knew then, in fairly early grade school, that I was not being taught how to think or how to use logic or how to solve problems: I was only being trained to repeat correct answers, nothing more.
Also - again - I watched as it only got worse before I even graduated. I'm not even talking about a generation of decline such as my parents to me: no - it got even worse while I was still in school. I watched the material become more and more direct, more obtuse, more narrow. There was less explanation, there was less experimentation, there was less abstraction in how topics were viewed and examined. Near the end the material was barely even gone over it was just "Here's the topic - know this answer - here's what the questions will look like - you are to know these specific answers - bye."
There was absolutely no conceptual understanding involved, of any kind, at all. Yeah, of course kids _"taught"_ like that are dumb as shit: they've literally never been given the task of attempting to process information and use logical deduction to figure anything out. They "know" what they have been told, in so far as one can actually remember discordant and discombobulated random tidbits of information: which - spoiler - you actually can't. So not only do they have an egregiously hindered, lamed, stunted cognitive capacity for extrapolation, abstraction and concept formation: but even what they were taught and memorized - get's lost days after they take their test because the human brain doesn't tend to remember random things with no other associative information present to retain it.
The U.S. education system is quite literally, non-figuratively, unironically, damaging children's brains by impairing their cognitive capabilities: perhaps permanently, I do not know if the damage can be reversed later in life - they may be permanently impaired by not having formed necessary neural mapping during their formative years. We may be walking into Idiocracy made manifest in 10 years when these functionally retarded kids become a substantive portion of working age adults.

I mean you have to actively block information yourself to not know some of those stuff. they couldn't even name china, and you hear about it everywhere.

    • @ObservingLibertarian
      @ObservingLibertarian Před rokem +33

@@vahidfarahani9784 While I don't disagree with you, I think you're underestimating how stupid these kids are. Example: "what countries border the US" - an example you brought up - lets examine that question. Do the kids asked in the video - know, actually know - what it *means* to "border" something? Likely - the only time they've really heard the word "border" such as "a border" or "the border" - it was in reference to the U.S.-Mexico border and all the people crossing it illegally.
What I'm proposing to you is that you have under-estimated just how drastic their lack of cognition is. That they can repeat words, like "border" - and use language in ways they have heard people use it: but they those kids may genuinely not actually know what that word means. Their "understanding" of the word "border" may not be _a barrier or boundary between two differentiated things:_ but rather - a specific line between the U.S. and Mexico. They may, sincerely, not understand the *concept* of a border and therefore the question genuinely confused them.
That's the kind of lack of cognition I'm talking about: repetition without comprehension. That's what you get when you teach children to be parrots, repeating correct answers - without actually teaching them to conceptually understand the material.

I don’t blame them as much as I do the parents. Do parents even ask their kids anymore, “what did you learn today?”

@@AnteaterOne I blame the system. Patents have been desperately fighting the school system to teach them practical stuff as opposed to identity politics

I teach all of these concepts in 2nd grade. The parents who care have the children who learn.

Being a Brit in my 70,s I could answer all but those women that appeared across the screen, this is because I had a proper education rather than just study for specific exams.I have worked with younger ,intelligent people who are puzzled by simple facts.

A kiwi in my 50's like you I could answer every question bar the Kardashian one.
If this is real, and a general reflection of American education standards, then as a country they are in deep doo doo.

Also British and in my 40s. I could answer all of the questions. Except the one about the Kardashians. I would cross the road to avoid the Kardashians. But then again maybe not, because I wouldn't even recognise them if they stood right in front of me.

A couple of years ago, I had the following experience at Walmart. It was just after Easter, and their Easter candy was discounted 90%. They had those delicious, creme-filled chocolate eggs, which were originally priced at $1.31 each. I wanted 20, for a reduced price of $2.62. But they rang up $0.50 each. I pointed out the problem. The check-out girl couldn't figure out 10% of $26.10, so she called her manager. SHE couldn't determine the correct price! If **I** had been unable to calculate %10 of some price, they never would have let me out of the Fourth Grade!

And 10 percent is so easy, you just knock off the final zero and move the decimal point.

I learned this even earlier, because my family is religious. They taught us a tithe is 10%. When our parents would give us a dollar, they had us save 10 cents for tithing, & 10 cents for savings.

How about handing the Cashier $20.50
      The bill was $10.50.
The girl looked at me and said
      The bill is 10.50
      Not $20.50
I said if I had a ten I would give it to you.
Please just give me the correct change which is 10.
      Mind blowing
      Simple math

I agree with you cause the blame for this ignorance falls on the parents as well and also on the educational system. These videos might be "funny" to watch but I think it's a disgrace when someone can't name three countries but they can name all the Kardashians.

@@kenUK762 I agree, but I also think with the “education” system primarily focusing on gender, race and feelings, there is no hope for the upcoming generations to be formally educated. There is a world of hurt coming our way if these kids are going to be running things.
