  • This video was from a vintage 8mm film, not sure of the location. So much of the various locomotives of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In the second half of this film is filled with Baldwin Locos. One of my favorite loco was the Baldwin Center Cab, several shots of these. Hope you enjoy. I have over 3,000 videos to publish, finally getting my wind in my sails to get these done. Most are railroad related.

Fantastic PRR footage. Wonderful. Please post more of your 3000 videos. I am especially fond of the electric locomotives and the PRR electrification generally.

great film, thanks for sharing. Am fascinated by early diesels, especially Baldwins. ( I left the sound on low in case there was going to be some commentary )

All this footage was taken in the early 60's. First part is Enola Yard then West Phila. engine house, then 30th st. Station and the High Line in Philadelphia, centercabs on the Norristown branch, GP30's on the east end of the Middle Division, Enola again and lastly the sand tower at the Lewistown roundhouse with 2 of the 3 sharks that were re-engined with Alco 251's in 1959. I grew up in Lewistown. Alex Downs

The First Locomotive shown is a General Electric E-44 Freight Locomotive. Not a problem, I like watching any PRR videos with any of their Locomotives

This video starts with an E-44 hauled freight. 2:30 for a line up of P5a electrics. Also seen are GG1's, EMD Geeps, EMD F series and E series and later on BT-24 centre cab diesels. 24:46 for Baldwin RF-16's.

I’m fully in awe by this video as it contains Maintenance of Way equipment, crane and boom car, which I’m a huge fan of. This one video covers quite a few assets of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Well worth my time viewing.

If I’m correct, I believe those are the E-8’s that are seen to this day, on occasion at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, fully restored back to Pennsylvania livery as they look in this video. I may be incorrect though, as there were many, I’m sure.

I'm a steam guy, but I still enjoyed this. It appears to have been shot no more than 5 years after the end of steam operations; the coaling facilities are mainly intact, and the roundhouses are still standing. There was even a standpipe, near one of the roundhouses!

To say that this is excellent work would be a great understatement, it’s outstanding, phenomenal and excellent. Because the Pennsylvania no longer exists and to have something like this, to look back on, is priceless. It’s part of all of our history and what helped put part of our industries on the map, as well as all the other fallen flag railroads. Thank you for sharing, Beachhouse Videos

I totally agree with Hartmut, this should be digitally remastered. I would be the first in line to purchase a copy. It’s an A+++++

Thank you. I was a fan of both the New York Central railroad and the Pennsylvania railroad as well. I was somewhat disappointed when they both merged into the Penn Central. I still have many New York Central HO scale locos and cars.

at least part of this is in west Philadelphia. At 14:48 you can see the Philadelphia Art museum and high rise apartments in the background at 30th street coachyard, and 15:55 is entering 30th street station. maybe it's all from Philly, it's hard to tell
