I like how Mel's Woody laugh sounds like a machine gun
3:59 well kinda
It’s supposed to sound like an actual pecking sound but it’s funny when you are thinking of a machine gun
Thanks
@@calebkuti7897 Woody probably manned a lot of B17 machine gun turrets during world war 2.
I can imagine him doing his signature laugh every time he shot down a Messerschmitt
@@michaeljeffery8563 2
Probably one of the most consistent voices I've seen on here, they all sound very similar.
Nintendonator3000 Agreed which is brilliant, think Mickey’s voice is consistent in the films (minus the radio shows)
Mason Ireton Also the first time Mickey talked he sound way different than he does today so not that consistent
3:58 sorry what?
@@TheSameGoobyGuy .
The most recent voice is very similar to Mel blanc’s. It 100% but definitely there
Mel Blanc did the best laugh out of all of them. It's amazing that they kept using it for an entire decade.
I have to give it to Billy West as he put the most energy into his performance. Also, his Woody Woodpecker laugh is extremely contagious.
When I heard his laugh I was like "Finally! They got the laugh right. His laugh is suppose to sound like a woodpecker pecking wood." I was so relieved that the laugh in between and the 2017 laugh wasn't going to stick around. It doesn't sound right to me in my opinion.
"There's Mel Blanc and then there's everybody else."- Billy West
@@fatangrygeek5746 Who says it's supposed to sound like it?
@@yosefdemby8792 The laugh inspired by Mel Blanc's sounds tons better. The laugh at the end is suppose to sound like a woodpecker pecking wood, obviously. And the newer laughs don't sound as funny and sounds like a lazy attempt to sound like a woodpecker pecking wood. That's my main grype about modern versions of the laugh. I'm just saying that it's not as funny. Anyone who does it like Mel Blanc is a step up from other versions of the iconic Woody Woodpecker laugh. It reminds me of how Muttley from Hanna Babara had his iconic snicker, when Wacky Races was remade, it sounded terrible. You can't beat the originals most of the time.
Billy West's take was very nostalgic to me, it's my first Woody Woodpecker. ❤️
Mel, Ben and Eric do the best job of bringing out the "screwball" in Woody imo.
It also kinda sounded like Mel snuck a little bit of Porky into Woody at 4:30.
Another thing, I'm a little shocked that Jeff Bergman has never given Woody a shot before.
Jacob Lakins Would Mike Himelstein and Michael Turner make solid composers for a Sesame Street, Peppa Pig, or Winnie the Pooh production?
@@ToonyKid Sure, I think they would!
@@jrl3432 I just read a Twitter post that sometimes Frank Welker’s Scooby-Doo sounds a bit like Jim Cummings’ Winnie the Pooh. So, with that in mind, Frank Welker as Winnie the Pooh?
@@ToonyKid Dunno. I never really thought Scooby sounded like Pooh, to be honest. He does sound a tad bit like Tigger, the more I think about it. So, I’d say he could work as Tigger, should something happen to Jim.
@@jrl3432 That’s OK. It was the person who made that post’s opinion.

Grace’s first Woody voice attempt actually sounded more girly than chipmunked. I just imagine the 20th Century Fox logo having Grace’s original Woody Woodpecker voice.
When I think about it, she sound like Tress MacNeille's Babs Bunny.
Man! Woody Woodpecker is crazy! I like it.
I'm gonna have to go with Mel and Ben Haraway. They are my favorites, awesome job Dave 👍
And finally
The voice actors of woody woodpecker

Hes appeared in this video
He was his voice actor in new woody woodpecker show
There's an interesting story about Grace Stafford. She was actually the wife of Walter Lantz, and when he was looking for a new voice for Woody she offered to do it, but he declined, because he didn't think a woman should voice a male character. So she submitted an anonymous audition tape, and Walter liked it so much that he gave her the part.
4:05 Woddy:- Do you know WhAt I DID TO THE LAST gUy ThAt TrIeD tHaT?!? WHY I TORE HIM LIMB FROM LIMB!!!!

Woody turns 80 this year. Happy 80th anniversary Woody Woodpecker.
I really love Blanc's first variation of the laugh (from Andy Panda's "Knock Knock"). Stafford's I think was very distinct, however, and made the character stand out as the years went on.
Hardaway’s my favorite here. The speed manipulation makes his voice higher, but not too high. It’s kind of like a “low-pitched” high pitch voice, if that makes any sense. Easily my favorite here.
Blanc gets credit for creating the laugh, but in the cartoons he sounds too much like Daffy Duck without the lisp while on the later Capitol albums, he sounds too much like an older Tweety.
Webb sounds very good in the role, just low enough like Hardaway. Rogers’s voice is a bit too high, but not to too much of an extreme.
Theodore von Eltz, who was the voice on an unaired radio pilot, did the voice without speed manipulation...and it’s awful. Seriously, it’s really creepy.
Stafford’s fine, though she had the disadvantage of voicing Woody when he was starting to become too tame. Her earlier performances were really good, though, and unlike some of the actors who came before, she also could actually do the laugh.
Davis is basically an imitation of Stafford’s voice. Not great, but not necessarily bad, either. Interestingly, both Blanc and Stafford were still alive and Blanc of course was already in Roger Rabbit anyway, so it’s surprising neither was asked to voice him there (Blanc wasn’t in the best of health, but considering he still did Yosemite Sam in most media, he probably would have been up for trying it).
West and Bauza are both pretty good imitators of the classic voices. Although I think the 1990s series as a whole is better, Bauza is a bit closer to Hardaway’s voice.
My ranking:
1. Ben Hardaway
2. Danny Webb
3. Eric Bauza
4. Billy West
5. Grace Stafford
6. Mel Blanc (cartoons)
7. Kent Rogers
8. Mel Blanc (Capitol Records)
9. Cherry Davis
10. Theodore von Eltz (really, though, he’s the only bad one on this list)
I favored Kent Rogers I little more, but Ben Hardaway was really great voice for Woody too.
Ben’s Woody voice sounds like Alvin
Han She Rogers definitely had the wild aspect to Woody’s voice down, but I felt it may have been a bit too wild at times. Regardless, Rogers was still a very talented actor. He did spot-on impressions of multiple celebrities in Hollywood Steps Out, and he wasn’t even 18 when that was made. It’s a shame he died so young; he seemed like he had a very promising future as an impressionist/voice actor.
Caleb Kuti Now that you mention it, Ben’s Woody voice does remind me a bit of Simon Seville.
@@talkaboutcinema3304 Are there any videos of Theodore as Woody on CZcams?
Billy West & Eric Bauza voicing this character, doesn't surprise me, considering they've taken on former Looney Tunes characters that were also voiced by Mel Blanc.
Eric bauza still voice loonety tunes characters i believe.
I've always felt Grace Stafford was the best voice of Woody Woodpecker. Hers seemed less forced.
I love that Grace's 1st attempt was just more her voice until she actually got more use to doing the voice and sounded more like woody
Grace Stafford was the best: the smoothest, and clearest - and also the easiest to understand. The other early voices were sped up too much. Grace was only sped up slightly.
The kid doing the voice today sounds like he has trouble with the laugh.
Not often I chose someone who isn’t Mel Blanc. But I got to go with later Grace Stafford on this one
It seems like Eric Bauza was trying (and failing) to capture Billy West's style. Honestly, I think the new woody woodpecker show is underrated.
The New Woody Woodpecker Show was my introduction to the franchise even though I watched it in french
@@No-hd4cg but so much of Eric Bauza's woody humor relies on witty dialogue and banter. Not really screwball material there.
Woody is tame for a second before he goes completely crazy.
I didn't know Kent Rogers voiced Woody until I watched this a bit more closely. I knew he did voice work at Warner Brothers, such as Beaky Buzzard, and he was the first voice of Junyer Bear, before Stan Freberg took over.
Fun Fact: Kent Rogers is/was the original voice for Woody but unfortunately he passed from a plane crash in 1944 he was only 20 years old and would've been in WW2 at 21.
Kent Rogers 1923 - 1944. 💜
I'm amazed by how long Grace Stafford voice Woody Woodpecker, but my favs are the voices before the 50s. Between Mel Blanc, Danny Webb, Kent Roger's, and Ben Hardaway, It'd be a tie with Mel Blanc and Kent Rogers. Mel Blanc's laugh was perfect for Woody, and Kent Rogers added a higher pitcher to Woody's voice which I like. Plus, he looked really handsome. Billy West and Eric Bauza would be my least favorites.
I love these cartoon evolutions
Billy West has to be my favorite Woody voice.
Im not sure why, its quite monotone but im a big fan of Ben Hardaway.

6:36 Woody Kinda Sounds Like A Girl
Considering it was Grace's first vocal appearance, that stands to reason. She took a few years to try and perfect it after that, which would probably explain why a few early '50s shorts didn't have him say much at all.

Woody Woodpecker says bad word
Woody: You can't do that to me! What fu*kin that stuff?! Come down and fight like a man!
Woody Woodpecker says Fuck in that scene but it is censored.
I think the best voices go to Billy and Eric. Grace is good sometimes. And the other voice actors? Well, they sound more like Chipmunks. Like, if I didn't know this was Woody Woodpecker and just heard the audio, I'd think they were from Alvin and the Chipmunks. And while I like the voice Eric provides, his performance seems a little, and pardon the pun, wooden at times.
(Imitating woody woodpeckers laugh)
Eu Amo O Seus Vídeos😍
I fail to see why someone thought it was a good idea to add that odd sound filter on Eric Bauza's voice. If they're trying to affect the sped up pitch from the earlier shorts, they make it sound more like Eric was recording this underwater. It's jarring because none of the other characters have a vocal filter, and he somehow sounds muffled. I'd almost think it was a bad phone recording if it wasn't intentional.
Yeah. I have no idea what’s going on there. Sounds awful!!
And it would be one thing if it was just the movie, but it carries over to the internet shorts. Which basically means no one said "this is a terrible idea" in between then. And it's a shame, since Eric is a really good voice actor. I find the fact he does a dead on Antonio Banderas AND a dead on Paul Giamati mind blowing.

Brilliant evolution, all this time I thought Blanc came back to voice Woody in Roger Rabbit but he must’ve passed away before he had a chance to record that section
Given that he passed away in 1989, a year after the film's release, I think the decision to not have him voice the character was either intentional (perhaps due to that earlier dispute he had with Lantz) or possibly his failing health at the time. Like, from what I read, he needed a breathing apparatus during his final recordings for the Jetsons movie.
Geoffrey Richards Despite the dispute, Blanc actually still remained friends with Lantz (Lantz was a guest speaker at Blanc’s School of Commercials, a school that Blanc briefly opened in the 1970s). Blanc’s health may have been an issue, but it’s also possible that the producers simply just didn’t think he was right for the role (contrary to popular belief, Blanc actually did record Yosemite Sam’s voice initially for Roger Rabbit, but they decided not to use it). Surprisingly, they didn’t have Stafford reprise the role either, even though Lantz claimed she remained the voice for 40 years.
Why don't you do the voice evolution of Andy Panda . After the upcoming Woody Woodpecker the Movie 2 - Woody in Love , you can do the voice evolution of Winnie Woodpecker , Wally Walrus , Buzz Buzzard and Knothead & Splinter .
