    You need to go up in pitch for both props. 23 pitch for the SS and 21 pitch for the Aluminum.

    Isn’t there a plastic bore sleeve that’s supposed to go behind the prop to prevent exhaust from surrounding the prop and causing cavitation?

    • @PaulsOutdoorAcademy
      @PaulsOutdoorAcademy  Před 2 měsíci +1

      There absolutely is. I didn’t know it at the time but the tabs were missing on mine. I have since replaced it with a new one 😎

      @@PaulsOutdoorAcademy thanks for always answering my questions! My issue, that other folks with a 115 pro xs seem to have, is odd. Starts great, idles great, but runs erratic getting on plane 3500-5000 rpm. It sounds like it’s either cavitation from the prop slipping, causing the motor to rev up, then down, but it also sounds like it’s a fuel issue.
      I’m going to replace the fuel filters,
      spark plugs, and bore sleeve. If that doesn’t fix it, I’m at a loss

    • @PaulsOutdoorAcademy
      @PaulsOutdoorAcademy  Před 2 měsíci

      @jakewyler1945 you are welcome. I enjoy trying to help people. I wonder if by any chance you might have a little water in your fuel? Did the boat sit for a while during off season? Was the fuel left in it just a little or full tank? Was it 100% gas or methanol mix? Did it have a fuel stabilizer in it? You could add a fuel treatment to it now and see if that helps at all. You could try running the fuel level way down and then fill. Back up and see if that helps. If you replace the inline fuel rail filter, it would be a good time to check the fuel injectors. Make sure all connections are tight. You can even take a 12 volt source and make them open and close long enough to spray carb cleaner in them. I think they only have a positive and negative connection. It could be sooooooo many things and is trial and error. When you put plugs in I would definitely check the gap.

    Hello. What is the difference between the Mercury 115 PRO XS with a black bottom and a silver bottom?

    • @PaulsOutdoorAcademy
      @PaulsOutdoorAcademy  Před 2 lety

      I think the ones with the gray lower end have the command thrust option. The ones that are black do not have that option. If you search command thrust for mercury motors I think it explains it pretty well. Thank you for your comment

    but you are aware that the aluminum properller will make the consumtion grow and decrease your top speed.. it's a two edged sword. but I got the rationale behind your change, but wouldnt it be easier to lift your trim while sailing shallow waters ? anyway... would you mind telling me what your properller is ? the numbers printed on it, please.

    • @PaulsOutdoorAcademy
      @PaulsOutdoorAcademy  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It is 48-8M0151382. There is an override on my trim and if you get over a certain rpm the trim disengages to keep the prop in the water. In skinny water it is scary when it does that 😎

    • @TeacherBrunoOneil
      @TeacherBrunoOneil Před 3 měsíci +1

      thanks for the reply, I understand your motive now. I have a 100HP but the pitch of my propeller is 17. but I guess your engine has not only more power and topsteep but also some extra RPMs over mine. unfortunately mercury brazil doesn't sell ProXS here yet.

      Yeah mine has the command thrust as well (2019). HOWEVER…. I’m very concerned. I’m pushing around 6,800-7,000 rpm at WOT and 45mph. I’m currently running the tempest 21p stainless prop from the factory. I do believe I’ll have to go up to a 23p. It goes in for its service tomorrow, I’m going to double check with the dealer.

      @@mcplutt soooo here’s the story, I noticed I was pushing 7k the other day when I was running back to the ramp getting away from a storm. That is amazing..... Dang I need one... I may try to find a used one, I don't know. I was an observer in an MLF fishing event this past weekend and the boater had a 19 foot Caymas with a 225 Merc and it had a 23 pitch, 4 blade prop. That thing was rather terrifying in terms of how much power it had. It could launch you from zero to crap your pants in about 5 seconds. :) Thank you for letting me know, and I definitely hope to do that soon.

  • @toddspindler6190
    @toddspindler6190 Před 2 lety +1

    I haven’t read any comments yet and I’ll tell you you’ll notice aloooooot of deference lol… First off with a aluminum prop and the crazy amount of flex the 115’s going to put on it, you went the wrong way with your pitch selection… Anything typically over a 90hp the performance of a aluminum in non existent.. It’ll go, but that’s about it as far as performance.. Really shouldn’t even use the word performance in the same sentence as aluminum 😂honestly… That motor at full throttle will change the pitch (depending on load) up to 5 pitches and sometimes more simply from flex… Stick one on a 250 or something like that and it’ll literally straighten the ears almost flat and fall off pad, especially in a tight turn… Buuuuuut for you just easing around and not running much and definitely not concerned with performance a aluminum would definitely get the job done considering you didn’t have to make a run of any kinda distance

      Thank you Todd, for the comments. I was trying to ultimately get up on plane as fast as possible in order to accommodate the shallow water at Norris. I lost about 5 MPH, which was totally fine with me. What I gained was the ability to get that thing planed out QUICK. hahahahah. :) I am really wanting to get a 22 or 23 SS Prop to try. I think I could get close to 50 MPH with one of those. :)
