Who would've thought that violent acts and outbursts could be prevented if a person got or had access to mental help. A sane person doesnt drive a car through a crowd or shoot somebody.

My mother has schizophrenia. When I was a teenager she once tried to attack me with a stick for speaking too long on the phone and giving evil spirits control of me. Another time she was sure the neighbour was trying to kill her. Usually she just thinks they are conspiring against her... She's very stable on meds now, and thankfully was never strong enough to be an actual threat but I still get the chills. It was like there was nobody home. She also doesn't remember these episodes later.

I have bipolar disorder (possibly schizoaffective but I never went back to the psychiatrist and actually don’t want it to be true)but I am on antipsychotic meds. But pre-meds…I’m not sure how I and the people around me remained unharmed.
I have had several “bipolar blackouts” in my lifetime and I never remember them in detail. And if I do remember, it’s almost like I’m hearing or seeing a story that someone else is telling.
I do believe some of these people are evil, though. And the mental illness makes it easier for them to bring it out.
My mom set my hair on fire when I was five in a series of attempts to take my life. Because voices said of she didn't do it herself that my soul would be dammed to hell. Bless her for getting help, unfortunately that's not always the case. I hope she knows how strong she is ❤
I have held jobs at both a psychiatric hospital and at an ER. People can know what they are doing is wrong and yet not be of sound mind. It’s the voices, the hallucinations, the feelings of persecution, the absolute inability to stop what they are doing that begs for you to look deeper. Don’t get me wrong. The true victims are those that are taken advantage of, hurt or killed. But it is hard not to have some form of empathy for the mentally ill. Well, at least it is for me.
I think this is a great thing to mention because the law doesn't recognize it that way. If you know right from wrong then many times you can't be considered crazy. I don't get it.
That's the first video on that channel that I some empathy for the killer. He's what they call "legaly insane" I think. He genuinely believe it has to be done for some reasons, likely hallucinations.

Yea this reminds me of that lawyer who was just a normal person and then all of a sudden she had i believe was a schizophrenic episode and ran someone over and threatened to kill the cop in the interrogation room.
That kind of stuff scares the hell outta me. Its not easy getting a law degree and passing the bar. She was intelligent and just a normal person and her head just changed one day.

I completely agree. and its not just visual hallucinations its also tactile that means they FEEL hallucinations so they can literally feel like a devil is stabbing them and they cant stop for example most ppl dont get it i studied psychology for 20 years

The judge on Friday initially issued a 51-year sentence but suspended six years, citing Magill’s mental health. Magill originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but a psychiatrist for the prosecution testified he was sane.

I remember my dip into insanity. Persecution Delusion, Stage 1 Brain Cancer, I was in the hospital and thought the doctors were trying to kill me and my family members. That’s scary as shit. I went insane in the hospital but I’ve worked my way back to sanity and came to the conclusion that they saved my life and helped me back to sanity. It is scary as hell being at the mercy of your own mind. I don’t hold my head so lightly anymore and I am trying my best to recover. Even as I’m in remission and am cancer free.

Because I’ve gotten a lovely example of why the bliss of hallucinations is a very bad thing. Because my loved ones and so many innocent doctors and nurses had to suffer. It is so heartbreaking that he called his Mum asking for help before any of this happened. Everyone should be educated about mental health, and early intervention services should have funding pouring in, especially at such a dark and tumultuous point in human history.

I cannot imagine being the guy that gave Andrew a ride, only to later find out what he had just done only a few minutes before. And he even said to the dispatcher that he didn't think he was dangerous at the time! I wouldn't blame him if he never stops to help anyone ever again!
I'm a volunteer EMT and was once on a call to a man driving through the area and was mentally altered. An officer was on scene, and while we were there the guy showed the officer he had a gun in the car. We transported the guy and he was released later that day after getting some meds he needed. Two days later he got in a shoot-out with cops in a different town and died. That was pretty disturbing
When I was a student I worked in a pub. An old guy came in twice a week. He had smiley eyes, always tipped and I thought he was a lovely old man. Then he was on the front page of the local paper - he’d been stopped in his car, which transpired to have his murdered girlfriend in his car boot for six weeks!
Scared the crap out of me! I mean, I enjoyed seeing him. He seemed lovely. Talk about missing the truth of the man.
No imagine being the first guy that gave him a ride and then dropped him before he went to kill the lady. If the guy had drove him to a police station this wouldn’t have happened. He didn’t even have to tell him he was driving him.

This turns my stomach to see. My sister was showing almost identical behavior at the beginning of her run with meth induced psychosis. All that remains, over three years and many meds later, is an empty shell of who she used to be with mild hallucinations/delusions. It’s very haunting. Thankfully, she hasn’t physically hurt anybody yet. I can’t imagine what his family was going through at this point.
It blows my mind that people are still trying meth. It's insanity.
One of the scariest and saddest things to see is someone losing control of their mind. It's hard for people to fathom but when someone goes through this it is all completely real to them, as real as real can get.

@@shonamagouyrk9575 I use CC too and I’d bet that you know just as well as I do how bad those can be sometimes so that just makes it all the more impactful that they actually took the feedback and applied it by adding captions in some parts. I had CC on for this video and I appreciated when the CC lined up with the text on screen - solely to verify that the CC was correct. I wasn’t aware they didn’t really do this prior so it was nice to hear they began doing so after someone brought it to their attention.

A forensic psychologist charged the state of New Mexico $100,000 to evaluate the suspect. I'd say that makes 2 criminals in this case.
So, they had zero evidence of psychosis-inducing drugs in his system, but still ruled it a drug-induced psychosis and called it a day. That's some fucking top notch police work right there.
They literally said he was using meth, drug induced psychosis can be caused from long term drug use not just when you use drugs you are in psychosis💀
So actual studies have been done that show meth usage can lead to recurring psychosis. He may actually not be lying about not using meth recently, but if he has a history of using it, then it can take a while before he no longer has those kinds of episodes (studies show 17% of prolonged meth users still had psychiatric symptoms after 3 months sobriety)

As a clinician I'm appalled the psychiatrist found him "sane".
Same. I have known about a case in Florida where the woman killed her husband, was declared insane and was locked up. Spent years back and forth begging for them to take her off meds because she wasn't insane anymore. And eventually was able to prove she was sane and the judge let her out. Probably because she was not bad looking and her they were millionaires. Point being, he is clearly insane and it was not him, and society doesn't have the capacity to understand what happens if someone is not in control of their own mind if they really are responsible for their own actions. Then the question of free will would be gone. So he had to get locked away and we can all pretend that's it.

Textbook psychosis. I had psychosis as well, I believed a pack of wolves was hunting me down because I was destined to save the world from unspeakable evil. I hid from the wolves at work and my boss was like "What's going on, why are you scared?" and I broke down and told him about the wolves that I saw and that same day I was brought into a mental hospital via ambulance and I am so grateful for that because I got treatment, my delusions disappeared and I learned to spot the signs of a psychotic episode and haven't had one since, whenever I see the beginning signs of it (paranoia for me mostly) I talk to my psychiatrist and we adjust treatment. Mental health help is so so so important! I feel so sorry for Marianne who just wanted to help the poor guy.

I was diagnosed with early onset skitzophrenia as a child and I'm 52, so this had literally been my worst nightmare my whole life!(That I would hurt someone while in a delusional state and "wake up" to this!) I definitely feel bad for everyone involved....there are no intentional villians in this story!

If my understanding is correct-the suspect only has to be deemed they were mentally competent at the time the crime was committed to be charged. Sentencing seems to be influenced by their current mental state though.
You can have empathy for a person who is clearly not well, and also recognize that their actions taken against an innocent woman were horrifying. Mary Ann didn't deserve to be murdered. It is possible to hold empathy for a person while also understanding and acknowledging that what they did was wrong. Feeling bad for one does not negate that you feel bad for the other.
Nah. I think you should be okay. Any sensible person can see that Andrew is clearly not in his right mind. What happened definitely warrants him being sentenced and imprisoned, but in a psychiatric facility, not a correctional facility. The man is sick and dangerous as a result of his condition. He needs confinement in a facility suited to treat him, not a cage.

My brother left Vietnam in 1969. He did pure coke. He believed he could forgive your sins. It was so scary. This went on for 3 days until we committed him to the veterans hospital in Muskogee Oklahoma. They kept him 45 days. On the 4th day he was my little brother again. He stayed on China white, herion, he brought it back from Vietnam. He got busted and never did herion again . He overdosed on 2 wafers of methadone. 1951 - 2002. Thomas Mark Plunk. I miss him so bad. Especially at Christmas. He got 14 metals in Vietnam. He was a helicopter gunner rip to my beautiful brother
That's sad, I'm guessing what ever he experienced over there broke him. And there's nothing you can do for someone like that no matter what you try. It's like they are bound and determined to kill themselves because they can't forgive themselves for what they did or didn't do. Even shit that wasn't there fault for something and just like surviving where many they knew died. I hope he rests easy now and was finally able to let it all go.
I pray your brother has peace now. I worked with a Vietnam vet for a few years. He’d be up working on the pole line in a bucket, a chopper or plane would fly over and he’d be yelling, dropping to the floor of the bucket hiding out and then into full battle mode. Sometimes it would end quickly as I was talking to him over the intercom and other times I’d have to just bring the bucket down while this was he was reliving his nightmare. War has broken so many soldiers. Much respect for never giving up on him.

That guy who gave Andrew a lift is so lucky. His good deed put him next to an axe murderer and yet probably saved him at the same time since he didn't seem confrontational and Andrew probably didn't feel threatened by him.
Fully agree. NEVER stop for someone on the highway who is walking the middle of the road, looking and acting crazy. They might actually need help, but they also could be a guy like Andrew or worse. Thats why call the cops IMMEDIATELY and don't stop by yourself.

Encountering an individual who is clearly unhinged is very risky, especially when they are displaying disturbing behaviour. It's better to get them help from a distance (i.e., call emergency services, etc).

I was thinking the same thing. I half expected the officer to tell him, "hey it's not a good idea to pick up strangers at night because this guy just murdered someone."
Wow, this ENTIRE situation was just horrific for everyone involved, even Andrew. Yes, I said even Andrew. He had a wife and a daughter, was taking college classes and seemed to be a normal guy. Now that Andrew is in his right mind, he just lost EVERYTHING. I 100% feel HORRIBLE for the innocent woman who was so brutally murdered and her family along with the young deputy who was shot in his arm for just doing his job and can no longer work in that field b/c of his injury. I honestly can’t believe Andrew wasn’t found to be insane at the time of his horrific acts. I think there were too many people who wanted to see Andrew punished for the death of an elderly woman and the harm of a fellow Brother in Blue… otherwise he would have ABSOLUTELY been found INSANE and would be getting the help he really needs.

He was cognizant at the time which means he knew right from wrong. He even admitted it in the interview. There was no insanity defence. It's a legal term not a mental health term. But i agree with you. I think he should have got treatment not jail.
At my very worst mental stage I was convinced I knew secrets I wasn't supposed to know and there was a group after me. I'd see them lurking around, always watching, like a warning to keep quiet. At one point I was convinced my mom had been switched out and was one of them. She had to call for help because I refused to let her get near me. I don't really remember much from this year, it's mostly been told back to me and I've read things I wrote down about it. I was 15 at the time and it was so scary.
Yet, even though most of that year is like a dark spot, I can vividly remember seeing them watching me from a distance and constantly being terrified.
I did feel like I had to do bad things to make them satisfied. I never got to the point of acting violent towards others but I was hurting myself badly and spent months in hospital.
I swear to god I believed all of it. I did for years. My head's only been clear for 2,5 years

@@KMarr07 I honestly don’t know. I still have diagnosed delusional syndrome, but over the years the doctors have removed and added diagnoses so many times that I have no idea what is there anymore. I still see and hear things no one else does, but I can block it off into a separate headspace. Most people would say it isn’t real, the things I experience, but I really can’t deny them 😅 It’s quite complicated

@@KMarr07 I might still have it. Health care in my country, especially mental health care, is really really bad. It took me years of forced therapy to get to where I am. I was 15 when I started showing symptoms, and I didn’t have a choice in the matter since I was a minor. I hope your brother gets to a point where he realised how much proper help does for you.
@@siennakahlgren Yes good mental health care is hard to get. Well good, keep working on yourself. My brother was found OD'd in his van, it's to late for him now. They would pick him up on the streets and hold him for 24 hours and then just let him go again. We tried Nomi and everything, like you said, it's hard to get help.

This is one of those stories where I feel bad for the victim and the killer. He clearly had a psychotic break and was not in control of his faculties, yet he killed someone gruesomely in cold blood. You can't let that go unpunished. Life in a mental institution seems the only reasonable verdict.
sorry, but i disagree. Life in prison but he can stay in the mental wing of the prison and then transferred to the general population if he's mentally stable enough.

I have mental illness since I was a little kid and I'm being treated since I was 11. Although I struggle a lot still, I'm really thankful that I am being treated well enough so I don't end up this way. I stay away from drugs. Only medication, lately cigarettes (but I'm working my way out too) and every other month I have some beer. Never get drunk really cause I'm scared of could happen if I do get drunk. It's just... It's a struggle in many ways but I'm here to say I've never hurted anyone else besides myself and even that hasn't happened in over a year.
Mental illness are generally chronic and takes a long time to work through.
Just the other day I had an episode where we all thought it was a seizure but it was actually anxiety and stress. I hadn't slept in over 36h and hadn't been eating properly. When our mind is unstable, we need to balance everything else very carefully. So... Eat healthy, exercise, take meds, do therapy and SLEEP WELL. It makes a huge difference to everybody's life.

I had a nervous breakdown after my mom died in front of me. That out of control sorrow and desperation was terrifying. I was sitting on my bed ready to off myself. I was hearing things and I had no one. The only thing that saved me was I sent an incoherent message to my younger sister and then she took me to the hospital. I had been under so much stress that I just snapped. My mind couldn't handle anymore. I was rambling and not making any sense. I was rocking myself back and forth while being admitted to the hospital. I probably looked like I was withdrawing but my mind just snapped.The human mind is a terrifying thing. Now that I know what I'm capable of falling into watching these almost makes me want to avoid it at all costs again.
Take care of yourself. Glad you feel better. Deep breathe and psychedelic mushrooms even very low dose can be helpful if used for healing purposes...Long water fasts are amazing for the mental health / overall health too...Look into kefir. Take care of your vagus nerve / posture. If in doubt there are so many people who care and are also suffering!
RIP to your mother, this is absolutely a terrifying situation and you did not deserve that heartache. I hope you’re healing well, and that your days get a little easier as time goes on. Your story will help others ❤️

truly horrifying.. 100 000 $ for a mental evaluation of a single person?! What the hell is wrong with them. THIS should be a criminal case as well.
Right?! THAT is insane! $100,000 to misdiagnose the guy. They aren't even good at their job or that's the outcome someone on the inside wanted. It is obvious from this man's confession and ramblings that he has mental health issues, most likely paranoid schizophrenia, and started taking drugs to self-medicate. That just made it worse. He had a complete breakdown. The reason he isn't being more empathetic for what he did to the lady is that he thinks she was possessed and that some higher power told him it was the right thing to do in order to "save the world." He feels bad that she had to die, but not that he killed her, because God told him it was the only way, and he was scared, as well. He even said that she was acting weird and possessed. I feel bad for everyone involved in this awful case. Now, having said all of that, where is my $100,000? Ridiculous! 😡

My oldest brother suffered with paranoid schizophrenia and exhibited much of the same behavior as Andrew. Thank God it never resulted in a homicide. When I was young I was very angry with him; then one day I realized that the things he experienced were literally his reality. It was so sad and he lived a very troubled life.

Most of the time it won't result in homicide, it's actually very rare people with these kinds of mental illnesses to kill people, they just tend to get more attention when they do because it makes for a sensational story.

I have bipolar 1 and schizoaffective disorder. When I was 18,19, and 20 I was living on my own and working full time as a delivery driver. I had no diagnosis at the time nor was I getting any professional help. I don’t really remember what I would do daily, but I do know I was hallucinating often, with bursts of extreme fear and anxiety where I could either become paralyzed or extremely physically violent. I ended up being hospitalized and getting help after an encounter with law enforcement that I wont get into publicly. Long story short. Those officers saved my life and very likely the lives of others. They helped me get the help I didn’t know I needed. I think stigma and perception are the major reasons people with mental health issues don’t get help.
In addition, its a shame it usually takes extreme circumstances for people to get help. I don’t hate my parents or teachers, but there was definitely something wrong with me as a child that they had to have known.. ASD was a likely possibility, but I guess I just didn’t “look autistic”.

Society is waaaay to judgmental about mental illness and criminals. Probably most people in jail or prison have mental health issues but few get much treatment. Your lucky you had good cops that helped you. Of course if your a good looking woman your more likely to be helped than hurt. On an ugly man, cops often use excessive force and they get little help or sympathy in jail or prison.

I am completely open about my diagnoses, that include TBI (from over 22 ECTs that wiped out five years of my life and left me rebuilding my still suicidal brain from scratch) and PTSD.
It's obvious we're a bit quirky! I want people to know we're not the stereotypes they fear, but their friends, neighbours, co-workers, etc. I don't going around announcing I take meds for a life threatening illness, but if it comes up in an appropriate place and time, I'm open to talking about it.

I've gone through DT's and that "I haven't had a drink in 5 days" really makes me think he was going through severe DT's. They can be horrifying, it's almost like having a nightmare but you are awake and everything that you see or hear is very real to the person experiencing them. The first time I tried to quit cold turkey I thought my roommate was a demon that was going to take me to hell and we fought for 15 minutes before the cops got there.
I think it's a lot more than that. I'm also a recovering addict but this is very different.

My great aunt has schizophrenia and when not properly managed it is truly terrifying. My mom had a scary encounter with her when she arrived to our house unprompted (which was very unlike her) to ask my dad to sign hockey cards so she could give them to her students as she used to be a kindergarten teacher. She did not have that job anymore. When my mom told her that she snapped and I remember her saying she feared for my life as she kept pointing to me and saying that the government would come take me away and that the world was evil. Scary stuff. I still see her from time to time, she’s on her meds and she’s truly such a sweet soul which makes it even sadder tbh. She lost contact with her husband and contact with one of her two kids due to trauma she inflicted on them. There’s no excuse for what this man did, and usually schizophrenic people aren’t aggressive to others (it’s a common misconception but if anything the harm they direct is mostly towards themselves) but in cases where the mental illness is paired with a tendency of aggression it can prove to be tragic. We need better mental health care, some people are beyond fixing and need to be locked up.

Well she was unconscious when she got her head cut off so
I dated a girl who used to think people were watching her all the time. We lived together for a while but she started getting strange. She started covering the window with newspaper and insisted that there were listening devices in our apartment. I couldn't take it anymore and left. Next thing I knew her parents called me because they were scared I'd hurt her. I explained what was going on and they understood. She stalked me for about two years after that. People don't believe me when I talk about it.

Gotta love that. One of my family's favorite techniques. I recall an incident of receiving a "smell complaint"... Property management called my phone to remind me that there was no smoking allowed. Just to see what would happen, I replied, "I don't know what you're talking about, I don't smoke"... The response was beyond incredible.

In psychotic breaks there can be v short moments when they seem realise they're hallucinating/hearing voices , but it's very fleeting. I'm speaking from having a close friend with mental health issues. Also, when on meds, recovering, there are fleeting moments when they suddenly say something odd that's obviously a delusion, when they've seemed back to normal for days. It takes 3 weeks for the med's to fully kick in .

It's unbelievable how detectives are able to listen to admissions like this while remaining calm & non-judgmental.
The sad part about these videos is not only the death of the victims, but also the lot of the suspects suffering from serious mental illness. I know not everyone with mental illness murders someone, but everybody is different, everybody is somewhere different on the spectrum for different disorders. Yes, crimes deserve punishment, but also people- human beings deserve compassion. We need to prioritize health, mental health included. We need rehabilitation
This is why we need better and more available drug treatment programs and mental health institutions! I worked in mental health for 25 years. We started to see more and more drug induced psychosis! We were only allowed to keep them long enough to " dry them out" then had to release them and refer them to out patient services which is a joke! There isn't much supervision on their status! There needs to be a better way!
The problem with that is drug addicts don’t quit doing drugs until they’re done doing drugs. They really need to get out there and suffer.

@@MsRobinL I’m afraid that problem will never go away so long as there is still reason to believe the US gov is profiting and participating in the drug trade even within the US. Look up “The boys on the tracks” to see what I mean. Wendigoon did a fantastic synopsis of the whole situation. Sadly our government would seem to suggest they legitimately care the most for their own interest even before the very lives of their own people based on what that story has to say. The rate of addicts and drug incited incidents within the US are, at least in some part, just byproducts of such a sick system.

I spent a couple years working at night as a jail CO while I went to college. It's so incredibly obvious when someone is detached from reality, this guy is the real deal. It's almost impossible to fake, especially when you're around them for extended amounts of time. Andrew is absolutely insane. Wouldn't surprise me if this is long term effects of meth.
Or his drug addiction can be the result of living with mental health issues. Often suffering from those issues leads to the use of anything that will knock them out or stop their brain from thinking.

My own mother is a meth addict, and all of her friends are as well. All of the people with schizophrenia that she's had around me growing up, were already suffering mentally, and then abused drugs to try and gain control again. I am doubtful meth really causes schizophrenia. I feel it really enhances mental illnesses, and people let themselves go entirely.
@@MacLeodddd probably doesnt cause it (brain damage aside) but drugs can absolutely trigger latent schizophrenia in people who already have it and dont know or who are genetically predisposed which is arguably scarier. it's can be a completely random dice roll for some people, like, smoke a blunt and whoops now you have an extreme mental illness for the rest of your life.

Hey, I love your content! Just had a quick question, how do you get access to these video recordings, like police bodycam, interrogation rooms, 911 calls etc? I mean do you work in law enforcement or are these available for public viewing?
My partner has bipolar disorder with psychotic features, and a year or so before we started dating when we were just friends, he had an episode that looked exactly like this (obv he didnt kill anyone, he just became convinced that he had been jumped by 8 guys without faces and that he had blood all over him from it). He called me, sobbing and I immediately called an ambulance.
I think it was probably the scariest moment of both of our lives.
What Andrew did was unspeakably horrible, but he clearly wasn't mentally okay at ALL.

After that incident he ended up being given the correct medication and is now living a pretty normal life. I love him, regardless of that incident happening. He's my everything and I'll always be there for him if some thing similar ever happens again.

Kinda, i mean they were responding to a 911 call where the lady was distressed .. so turning up finding noone is obviously guna cause a 'vibe'... it aint anything more than how you would react in the same sitch. Theres a small percentage of people where there is a disconnect between the brains ability to sense danger... obviously this is not a great trait to have going back in time where dangers were more common. Hence its rarity

It's the combination of weird things like vehicles present yet place is empty, TV is left on, plates with food on them, door unlocked.
With experience your mind picks up on the many subtle cues without you necessarily consciously being aware of it. As a cop he probably seen some shit, brain can combine the clues and be vaguely aware something is severely wrong before finding it.
It's the whole "trust your gut", for experienced people your gut might just be instincts through experience
Funny thing is, the pattern recognition behind that may also be why the psychotic guy was experiencing what he was experiencing.
I've had my instincts kick in like this, here's a little personal experience I've had, I'll try to make a long story short (essay time lol.) It was around midnight at my old apartment, listening to my headphones blasting music on full volume as I do frequently, ruining my eardrums lol. Out of literally nowhere I felt an overwhelming feeling of dread and immediately stopped the music, something was off, like I just knew it, I was pretty drunk at the time too. I cannot emphasize how much I was not able to hear anything with the music playing; I heard no crashes or bangs, it was just sudden dread down my spine and adrenaline kicked in despite no real reasoning at the time, I was SCARED. I go to my living room, a man was trying to break inside through the kitchen window. His arms were already inside and he was trying to hoist himself in. I screamed at him to leave and get out, he bolted just like that, I dial 911, cops came and then left eventually after some long ass questioning. I lost track of time but once things calmed down and were over the sun was coming up. I couldn't sleep for the next two days, it was such a rush. I thankfully moved soon after since my lease was ending anyways. I've always been one to trust my gut, I'll take that experience as a testament to my instincts, pretty proud of myself.

I have a 33 yo son that acts like this quite frequently. He did have an episode where he took a knife and stabbed his wife’s hand. He “woke up” in the middle of it and stopped and took her to a neighbor and called 911. This started a cascade of horrible events and him getting locked up. He is out now and has descended into Meth hell. He can talk to you and suddenly start threatening you. I am afraid of him. He is a
Veteran of the Army, he was a successful medic in Afghanistan. I think he got hooked on heroin there. I am so sad. I am in hiding from him, because he has threatened me several times. I wish I knew what to do. The VA know him by sight as a frequent flyer. He stays a while and then they let him go. It’s so sad.
Regina, find out about your local involuntary commitment laws and ready yourself. With the seriously mentally ill, it's no use lamenting that they have changed. You can either have them in your life and take responsibility for supporting them and getting them help, or remove them from your life to a safe distance. No other ways about it.

There are many things that could help but medical "professionals" today aren't actually educated that well about psychoactive substances. The best place to get advice about problems with drug use is online forums for drug users. There are subreddits on Reddit with users generally more educated than most pharmacists.
For instance if you're really mentally messed up from drug use there are numerous supplements you could try to help repair your damaged brain, such as Lion's Mane Mushroom or Semax which is used in Russia to treat mental decline from alcoholism to great effect but weirdly is unheard of anywhere else.
Get him to rehab or preferably hospital, there’s a lot of drugs proven to simultaneously improve both aggression and physchosis aswell as drugs that can reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms.
I've had drug induced psychosis before - it isabsolutely terrifying. I felt like someone was following me, that people were hiding in my bedroom and that my house had been bugged. I ended up wandering the streets and spent hours hiding behind a dumpster. Scary as hell.
Yeah, I accidentally puddled myself with LSD and I thought mantis aliens were trying to r-a-p-e and abduct me. Every person I saw was connected to/ working with the aliens. I ended up in the woods covered in mud and shit. Those damn mantises kept peeking at me from behind trees and they were talking to me the ENTIRE TIME through telepathy.
I’ve never been so deluded in my life but somehow it rewired my brain. I was in the midst of heroin addiction for a few years before this happened and when I snapped out of it I wasn’t physically addicted to heroin anymore. I had no withdrawals. Nothing.
Never used again after that ordeal.

He too thought he was Jesus and was fighting satan. So many similarities to this guys thinking! It is scary. He only takes his med sporadically. MENTAL HEALTH IS REAL folks!

This scares me beyond anything I can imagine. My son is nothing like this but we’ve been dealing with some issues in the past. He’s only 17, on meds now and seems completely normal now. He has had a lot of trauma and the doctors we’ve talked with and psychiatrist seem to think his psychosis came from depression cause he was so deep into it. I just fear what his future will be. We talk constantly about if he is seeing something he needs to come to me n not just ignore or react rationally. We have a good plan n he’s doing great now but as a mom I’m still worried about the future of course. I feel bad for this lady and her family but I feel bad that this man’s mind is what it is.
I actually feel as bad for him as the poor lady. He is very clearly unwell and shouldn’t have been found sane. His lack of remorse is because he genuinely believes that he saved the world by killing her.
I had a panic attack in the hospital one time and they gave me a sedative called Haldol, and instead of calming me down it made me violently hallucinate and become agitated and I would sleep for a short time and wake up agitated and confused and hallucinating so they’d give it to me again to calm me down. That cycle lasted a couple of days, part of me thinks the sedatives they were giving him we’re having the same effect on him and not calming him down as intended. I spoke to some nurses about my experience afterwards and they said you shouldn’t have those types of intense side effects from that type of medication and now it’s listed as an allergy on my armband when I go to the hospital lol

Anyone who prescribes or takes Haldol knows it can cause serious side effects such as sudden mood changes, agitation and hallucinations. Makes no sense why the nurses told you you shouldn't have had those intense side effects from that medication.
I was given benzo's at age 12 or 13 after days of panic attacks and I thought THAT was irresponsible, but this? Damn, sounds horrible..

My best friend has episodes like this sometimes. He was on meds but they weren't completely helping him so he still had minor episodes here and there. But the last time he did have one, he called the police on himself because he thought there was a gang outside his house trying to rob him. And when the police got there he refused to put down a small hatchet because he was so scared... Thankfully one of the officers understood that this was a mental episode and not just someone refusing to cooperate so they were able to help him. He even called me from the hospital asking me why I told the leader of the gang where he lived???...Ummm what?!? He truly was in his own world and it broke my heart hearing him like that. Thankfully they now have him on the correct medication and he hasn't had any episodes since.

Sometimes the best thing you can do, for all parties involved in the situation, is to simply walk away before they cause you harm.
I had a friend who had similar episodes for awhile. It ended about a month and a half ago when he essentially blamed me for every problem he has. I’ve known him since 1st grade, 22 years didn’t mean anything to him after his new girlfriend began feeding lies into his ear. He derailed and I walked away because that was simply the only option left.

I've experienced something like this. No harming of people but I was under a huuuuuge amount of stress in my life. I'm talking like I felt like my life was going in a hundred different directions. It was terrifying. I was hearing auditory hallucinations. I was so scared. My body would start shaking out of control. Mental health is no joke and I could have took a lie detector test and would have passed that's how real the situation was. I can't begin to tell u how scary it was. I finally got help. The whole experience opened my eyes completely. Now I have a completely different outlook in life. Stress is also no joke. If u know someone that is under a huge amount of stress please check on them cause that could be the time they snap. The brain is a very interesting thing to say the least.
If you are mentally fragile enough that you "snap", you should be locked away from the general public.

Took this long for me to afford to see a proper head doctor (as the mental health institutions are to be avoided and there is no free counseling)
The "help hotlines" will hang up on you if you're not actively pursuing suicide..
I called my sister, whom I hadn't spoken to in years, tried explaining everything, she ended up blocking me.. She should have used the 'Baker Act' and had me institutionalized...
Although I am thankful to my friends who let me hide at there place and fed me during this time but in hindsight, damn, I can't help but feel disappointed no one actually did anything ..

I had a neighbour who was a paranoid schizophrenic, and I suspected he was also self-medicating.
I had three separate incidents with him where he was mainly accusing me of video recording him and distributing images of him on the internet. My children witnessed each incident...thankfully we moved from there two years ago and haven't encountered him since. But it's very scary to think the possible outcome of each situation (of course I reported to police but nothing came of it). They're very unpredictable and this man seems to be experiencing more or less similar characteristics. I hope he gets the help he needs, he's clearly aware that what he did was wrong.

Weird. His twin's name is Andrew too. He thought we'd all been replaced with doppelgangers and he had to kills them to get the real us back. Sees melting demons instead of our faces but is fine over the phone. Last time he got arrested(for stealing rifles from a friend and wrecking his car halfway across the state) he said that the entire town of 30,000 people are dopplegangers. He gave me 3 skull fractures and a broken cheekbone from a completely random act of violence, no tell, no build up, just took my eyes off him for 2 seconds. I'm lucky it didn't KO me or I'd be dead, lucky I've been hit plenty before, but it was with a piece of steel. Told me, then his twin, then the cops that he intended to kill me. He also claimed to be Jesus, the pope, the last pharaoh, etc. If you made it this far may you sleep as well as I do knowing he's free and self medicating.

One of my brothers in arms had a mental break during a firefight and broke my arm with his rifle, swung it like a baseball bat at my face. I stopped it with my arm. Luckily, the rest of the boys were there to keep firing and hold him down. He got sent to a mental institute.
I still visit him, he's still my brother, and he knows what he did and is genuinely apologetic every time he sees me. I know that it wasn't really him that did it, his brain just malfunctioned. But I'm still apprehensive around him. I'm very glad that he saw the rifle as a bat rather than a rifle, though.

I was homeless for about two years, lucky me for not ever dipping into heavy drugs BUT I was close friends with someone who did. He was having a manic episode because of it, threatening to harm others, etc. We managed to convince him to call his father and on speaker phone we all heard his father calm my friend down and he immediately accepted my friends request to move back in with his father and get the help he so obviously needs. As far as I know, he got the help and is doing so much better.
I have a lot of mental illness in my family. I don’t drink and have never done illegal drugs. Sometimes, right when I wake up from sleep, a part of my brain is still dreaming and I have hallucinations for several minutes. It is the most unnerving and terrifying thing I have experienced. I feel so bad for this guy and for the people who have been hurt by his untreated illness. I hope he’s getting help finally but if he’s not, I hope he’s in a place where he can’t hurt anyone else.
I had withdrawal induced psychosis exactly five days after giving up alcohol and other drugs.
This is how I behaved. Obviously I didn’t attack anyone but I don’t remember much of the week I spent in a locked hospital ward.
I can however relate to “the dark entitys” I was totally out of it and was not in control of my actions. Thank goodness I was committed to hospital because I was deluded and totally psychotic. I feel for this man and obviously his victim.

I can’t imagine how the Good Samaritan felt once he fully understood what was going on with Andrew that night. He survived a 10 mile drive with Andrew right In between a murder and shooting that police officer. Guy was beyond lucky that night.

I feel terrible for people who have actually lost their minds. Imagine if that was you, or someone you love, and having literally no clue what is happening and being restrained, poked with needles, no one is listening..it must be terrifying😢 I feel such despair for every person affected by this, in this case and otherwise.

I had an uncle that experienced religious delusions and committed suicide.. he knew every word in the Bible backwards and forwards, he was the sweetest guy but suffered from bipolar disorder. He never hurt anyone only himself and I pray that we start to understand and learn about these disorders and how to fix or help them. What a tragedy this is.

I have witnessed a prolonged psychotic episode in my husband who has an inflammatory brain illness. It lasted days. It started gently with him saying people were watching him and there were people hiding in bushes watching the house. At first I thought he was confused because of him having had a grand mal seizure the day before. However as the following days unfolded it became terrifying and resulted in me having to flee the house in the middle of the night with my children. I called an ambulance and the police were called. It resulted in him being pepper sprayed and restrained and taken to hospital where he was treated for a week. It was all horrific to witness and my heart broke for my husband who really was not in his right mind. When he came out of the psychosis he was mortified, embarrassed and broken hearted at what had transpired. He has a very rare illness and I was unaware at that time that psychosis had been included in the symptoms as it was occurring in others with the condition. I watched this video and was incredibly triggered. This man sounds exactly like my husband did. He is either a very skilled actor or really was in the midst of a psychotic phase. It’s incredibly sad to me. That poor woman and her family. It’s horrific.

My family could have very easily ended up in one of these videos. My mother is schizophrenic, and has fought her meds for years. Half of my life has been spent surrounded by screaming about mafias, cults, gang-stalkers, etc. When my parents divorced, she was able to go further off her meds than ever before. Two days after I begged nurses to hold her in the psych ward, she stabbed our dog to death and tried to kill herself. She's medicated now, but still believes a lot of the delusions. This video hit really close to home. Be kind to one another. You have no idea what someone might be dealing with at home.

@Desert Rose thanks. She's doing better, but still has one foot in the delusions. She believes that some of it was not real, but insists other things really did happen. Like her being stalked. I'm just sad every time she tries to get me to believe her.

My brother gets like this when he relapses. I’ve had to sit with him many times and talk him down… it’s so scary and honestly traumatizing to watch someone you love completely lose control and my biggest fear is he not only hurts himself but others.

An officer of over 30 years commit suicide in my town recently. Every time I see these cases now I think about how terrifying it has to be for the first responders and they usually are overlooked. I hope those guys are okay.
I never ever feel sorry for the perpetrators and only for the First responders who have to deal with the scum. Everybody forgets that they get traumatized and that it affects their families, too. Meanwhile, society wants first responders to treat the perpetrators with kids gloves.

But they didn't really scramble all too well, they rather puffed up & became very solid. But theres nothing a little salt pepper & lemon juice wouldnt fix.
So he went back just to devour the guards testicles in front of him.

@@haas4262 I think Andrew was in his "scared/confused-mode" at that time so it's perfectly reasonable to offer help and not see him as a threat.
This case is particularly scary to me. I have a brother that’s experienced psychosis off and on from prolonged meth use for many years. Some of those episodes were violent because in his delusion he truly believes people are after him or trying to hurt him. He’s been in and out of various treatment facilities over the years without any long term, stable care or follow up. He gets “dried out” at detox facilities and then churned out to various residence programs without strict supervision. I’m honestly terrified he will hurt someone one day.
I’ll likely put this comment on newer videos in hopes you read it: the research, the writing, the narration and overall production value of EWU (and sister channels) are top notch; however, I have one critique I think is valid and valuable. All of your videos end abruptly, often with information that doesn’t directly tie back to the “main character” or main theme.
This video is one of the clear examples as it ends with details about the wounded police officer rather than a cohesive and elevated conclusion about the killer and his story. Does that make it bad? No. Your work is fantastic, and I always appreciate the aftermath segments near the end that give us the most current details about sentencing and the continuing impact of the crimes. It’s all great stuff. I would only suggest you craft more polished and thought-provoking conclusions that encourage your viewers to seek more knowledge about the key themes in each piece: mental illness, psychopathy/sociopathy, serial killings, or even suggestions for places viewers can go to explore more on specific cases.
Easier said than done, I know. As a writer and teacher of writing, I find conclusions to be the most challenging part of scripts and stories of all kinds. The extra effort really is worth it though. Anyway, I hope you take this critique in the spirit it is intended. Your work is awesome, and I am a huge fan!
