What really sucks is that the mother DID try to seek professional help several times, but mental healthcare is poorly organised, overwhelmed and rarely efficient with complex cases. How or why she allowed him to purchase a gun in front of her is beyond me, though.

The mother knew all the issues and drove him to a gun store, fearing he would commit suicide and allowed him to purchase a firearm.... I think the mother might be a major factor to the issue.
Parents can only do so much. Unless she was abusing him, nobody really knows what she could have done, or was doing to improve/hinder his mental well being.

@@DreamerBlythe As an outsider the impression I get is that most parents in the U.S. are so detached from everything that doesn't involve their own ego that they indirectly end up creating monsters off their offspring, either from neglect or abuse. Manipulative father dying from su*c*de because of a fight with the mother, cold as hell mother who, sure, took the kid to counseling, but likely didn't give much attention to him at home... That is already terrible news, but to take into account the kid's mental health considering there's family history of that? People should not be having kids without being psychologically prepared for it, period.

Hello, i am Amber...the same Amber you hear in this video saying "I want to go home" to the 911 dispatcher. I was one of the first ones to reach a 911 dispatcher and stayed on the phone with her the whole time until police came in and got us. I hope none of you have to go through this, and I want to thank you all for remembering us and those who passed. It's almost been 3 years, but it feels like it only happened yesterday. Keep being kind, and the memories of my fellow coworkers will never fade ♡♡♡

I worked everyday with Matt (he was linehaul) and I worked in the control room... pops was a wonderful man who always said hello to you. Sadly I didn't know the others because I switched from the twi shift to midnight. You don't have to believe me and I owe you nothing but maybe instead of judging someone immediately you can learn...I never knew about this video and apparently fedex didn't want us to know and other employees were told not to talk about it. I can share my whole story from that night but you are just a hateful soul on the internet so good luck with your life and I still hope you never have to go through something like this ever

I can tell you my whole side on that day, how it sounded like someone was banging on our windows when it first started, to me and my coworker hiding behind the desk that holds 10 monitors (some with cameras and others to use for sort), to me saying I didn't want to die and felt I was going to throw up to the dispatcher, then finally being taken outside, first going past the break room where I saw downed coworks, to standing outside surround by shell casings and seeing the inside of the small white car that held 2 more downed employees. Also seeing everyone that didnt make it laying outside...yea again I don't care about clout and I wanted to express my gratitude for the caring words everyone had. Nothing you say will hurt me cause I have seen death now sadly so please have a wonderful day thank you

Sometimes, people use "if you do x, I'll kill myself" as a manipulation tacted. To control the other party- or to guilt them if anything happen.
Though she probably shouldn't have said anything and probably has dysfunction herself, the father was probably also emotionally abusive. So if it wasn't that it would have been something esle.
I am truly baffled as to how this was allowed to happen in the first place. This person was reported to police repeatedly and showed several warning signs

You'd think when someone with numerous mental health issues and a history of violence confesses to an FBI agent that he is a danger to society he would be put on some kind of "do not sell this person a gun" list but I guess that's un-American.
Some of my mom's friends have a relative with severe mental health issues, she's messaged people claiming to be part of isis trying to recruit them and clearly could do something dangerous for herself and others. It's been reported, but until she actually does something, no one will step in. It's sickening and it's bullshit.
And just my luck she has a delusion that I should have been her child since my dad took her to prom back in the day. 🥲 I've only met this lady a few times and block her profiles anytime I see them pop up.

The second he attacked his mother with knives he should have immediately been taken away to a strict facility that works with kids like this. He should have been mandated to attend regular therapy after the suicide of his father. I don't completely blame the mother, a lot of people failed him from the beginning.

I think the instance that his “odd behaviors” had to do with the fact that he murdered people is incredibly dangerous. If someone murders someone, it’s because they didn’t value human life. It’s not because of their autistic/ocd traits. Experiencing any of those symptoms on their own is not going to drive someone to kill. It’s how people choose to react to those experiences that defines a person. Saying that innocuous behaviors like ROCKING BACK AND FOURTH is a sign that someone is going to MURDER PEOPLE is absolutely insane and clearly fueled by prejudice.
If someone does something evil, it’s because they chose to. It’s not because they’re an incomprehensible animal in a lab to be studied. Don’t take strange but harmless behaviors to be a sign of dangerousness, because you’re going to end up hurting a lot of innocent people. Don’t perpetuate ideas that people who are part of a minority are more dangerous than those of the majority, because that’s when you get hate crimes.

the difference for me lies in things being age appropriate. Sports are a masculine interest across all age groups, but my little pony is aimed at little kids. So if an adult man enjoys that kind of entertainment, I would immediately assume there is some severe developmental delay at play, and as with teenagers who often have anger/impulsivity issues due to the different developmental stages conflicting inside them, I would attribute similar traits to an adult watching something that is clearly aimed ar toddlers.

The people defending his mother are truly unhinged. If your kid displays any of these warning signs and you take them to buy a gun you are 1000% in the wrong and any other actions you took are meaningless. There is genuinely no excuse for that.
Yeah, she should've never taken him to the gun store. The only things I find defensible about her are that she took him to get evaluated and treated for years and that she grieves the victims more than him. It's not her fault that the systems she tried using to intervene in his destructive spiral failed, but it is her fault that she drove him to the gun store even after seeing that sign. She should've taken him to a permanent care facility and refused to leave until they took him in.

My brother said that exact same thing to me when he started a debate with me on how working conditions should stay as they are. Cause "its too much of a hassle to fix." That conversation left me so disturbed I had no idea what else to tell him so he proceeded to get annoyed by my silence and call me sensitive. The system isn't designed to work. The FBI and law enforcement drops the ball on these cases all the time. So many instances where people have reported red flag issues with actual merit and nothing substantive is done. This case is just one more of those. Wonder if he was on any anti-depressant drugs too? Those drugs make people go batshit over the deep end and need to be investigated just as much.

@@fate8718 he bought guns with the job he had obtained legally and the police had to release his weapons to him because the only thing that can keep a person from their firearms in the USA are criminal firearms charges that prevent ownership (felonies or domestic abuse convictions), pending criminal charges involving firearms themselves, restraining orders with firearms stipulated on them, and a court order ruling of mental instability.
If you notice - 100% of these require a judge to sign an order to remove the guns.
He called them, said he was better, and when they checked the only reasons he was allowed to keep his own firearms away from him they found none so they returned them.
I'm not defending the mom, but what happened here was entirely inevitable. Like the Parkland shooter, he would have gotten a job long enough to buy a firearm and gone on the rampage in the same fashion. No hitches.

You understand most, at least trauma ridden, killers do it mostly in the moment. You can plan it out, do all the prep work, ect.
The decision to act is 110% in the moment, if she didnt help him get this gun he would have had to work a little longer to get the means to do this task and probably rethought it.
Now am I saying its 100% her fault? No
Is there things she shouldnt have done? Yes
The problem is the laws. Decades ago someone like that would have been locked up however back in the 70's they changed all the laws making it almost impossible to commit someone.

So fucked up story. I worked in an office for a company that had a strict no phones allowed policy for copyright reasons.
It was so strict that it was a serious problem for some of the women in the office who needed to answer emergency family calls in rare scenarios.
So one day a woman raised hell becuse that exact situation happened and it almost ended very poorly for her. She asked our direct manager this question “what happens if someone just bust in here shooting? We can’t even call for help!” The manager looked at her coldly and said “go back to your desk.” Sent chills down my spine, they 100% expected you to die in that scenario

This is insane. There were red flags EVERYWHERE. The mother and psychologists failed that kid. He literally f*cking told them he was a danger. Absolutely tragic. My heart goes to the victims and their families.
The mother seemed like she tried really hard to get him treatment and even turned him into police when it spiraled out of control.....but he was an adult by then, and at 18, he could buy a gun without her permission/control. It was the failure of the hospital and health professionals who assessed him for letting him go after a 2 hour hold.
They not only failed the kid but the victims. And the victims aren't just the people shot, but every witness, family member and first responder. Time to start locking up people who show signs instead of waiting until they destroy lives.

@kirakira I agree. Although it shouldn't be a set amount of time. Some of these people can't be cured. And if they are released on medication have some way of ensuring that they take it. I believe there's an increase in mental health issues and a decrease in mental health services. And some, even if it's available, unless they have insurance or a high paying job, it's unaffordable.

i'm no professional but i've done lot of personal research and rocking back and forth is one of the go to examples of autistic behavior, same with obsession. OCD is also a common diagnosis for people with autism because a lot of the behavior's overlap, and it can be a common development from autism too. depression and anxiety are also more common for nd people
even him hitting his mother after she sprayed him could be that he got overwhelmed and had a meltdown, which he wasn't given time to recover from.
i honestly think this could've really turned out differently if he had been accommodated for autism, he mightve felt more of a sense of belonging. but regardless he did a horrible thing, and mental disorders dont excuse it. my heart goes out to all the victims
I agree. I used to teach a 20 year old autistic boy here in Laos, and ironically his special interest was My Little Pony. His second special interest was "nerf" guns. I don't believe he had any violent tendencies, but who knows? Luckily in Laos only policemen and soldiers are allowed to possess actual firearms.

@@muk4ro Only for about 3 months in 2017 and then 5 months again in 2019. I also taught his sister who has Asperger's syndrome, or high functioning autism as they call it nowadays. The whole reason I'm in Laos is because her family paid for me to return here from teaching in Istanbul back in 2019. I was the only teacher she wanted apparently as I understood her. Unfortunately, although her brother is autistic, with severe learning difficulties, the family refused to accept her diagnosis, because she was "so smart", and blamed her behavioral problems on "stubbornness" and my "encouraging her", so eventually my time helping her came to an end. Very sorry for her. She suffers a lot because she can't relate to other human beings, only to the people in the vast other world she lives in which has its own history, language, culture and so on.

There was a guy who lived in a dorm across from me who was obsessed with My Little Pony. Less than two weeks into the freshman semester, he got rejected by a girl and promptly threatened to bomb our school. Needless to say he got booted out pretty quickly.

He's 30 and lives with his mother who enables him to keep doing it by doing everything for him except what matters, loving him. He's never worked a day in his life. I doubt he would ever be violent but his life is being wasted. Hence why our friendship had to end.

The murder wasn't over My Little Pony. He just so happened to like the show and obsessed over one of the characters, but that's probably caused by emotional neglect/abuse. It doesn't sound like his mom was all that great either. His mentioning of Applejack in the last post seems to be a clue of what brought him relief from the real world and once he felt like the thing he clung to most became unstable, he probably felt doomed and couldn't imagine life getting better without Applejack. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I think My Little Pony was the last thing keeping him 'sane' like the last thread holding a rope together before it snaps. For all we know, he could have found another character to obsess over or he could have snapped sooner if MLP Friendship Is Magic didn't exist.

@@Bmoran325 Here in australia after our last mass shooting we changed some laws around and our audit process is pretty good too and we haven't had a mass shooting since 1996. Now the main gun violence is gangs shooting each other with unregistered or home made firearms.
To get a license you gotta train with a club for 6 months and be with sporting shooters 6 months. To have a gun you need a proper safe and both the gun and the safe are regularly inspected.
Can't have a gun if you have anything bad in your criminal or mental history. Super serious about background checks. Often you'd need permission directly from a police higher up too. Got to have a good enough reason to have a gun. Whether for Sport or to protect your sheep from animals, stuff like that
Can only get handguns, shotguns with 4 or less rounds, and I think only bolt action rifles. Each with seperate licenses. Very strict on how many rounds a gun/magazine/tube can have.
From experience, I can say two things:
1) He was misdiagnosed with OCD when it should have been Autism Spectrum Disorder (or he should have at least been tested for it - mom likely didn’t consent to this, mine didn’t for a long time and acts exactly like his mom). I’ve got a degree in psych and I’m on the spectrum (diagnosed), he shares MANY of my young traits/symptoms. The abusive environment definitely permanently changed that poor boy.
2) Again, from experience both in life and educationally, multiple layers of clothing at a young age (or at any age) coincides with both the spectrum and with S.A. I still wear layers upon layers - it does not leave you. This is a safety coping mechanism, and is common in S.A. survivors.
A third stretch, from experience - it feels like this psychologist worked with the mother to identify symptoms and behaviors, and then checked in with the boy to “verify” them. This often results in not directly observing the behaviors discussed and therefore receiving inaccurate pictures that the parent paints based on their observation of the child. This is something we deliberately work to avoid in my field of psych, as we consider it a logical fault that leads to misdiagnoses with children.
Hi, I’m also diagnosed with ASD (and GAD and depression just like Brandon,) and unfortunately I thought the same thing. What was described in this video, it sounded a lot like autism, which makes me sad simply because of how people treat mental disorders in general. While his situation in life breaks my heart, his actions have consequences and it’s very common for people to listen to these stories and form uninformed opinions about mental disorders. I’m not a professional, no degree, but having it myself and having a brother who’s lower functioning than I am (he has anger issues and takes meds that coincide with schizophrenia care,) I immediately felt that sense of familiarity.
Honestly, I wish the narrator went more into why he wore more layers, because while I figured that was an autistic thing to do, I didn’t make the connection that that’s also something SA survivors do, too. But nowhere in the video does it say that he was SA? Though with the things his mom says in this video, according to this video alone, she sounds like someone who would either commit an act like that or know someone who would and keep it hush hush. I wonder if that’s why she was fine with her ex taking his own life.
THAT BEING SAID, I really do try to stay away from making accusations since people are way more nuanced than that. What I said is a personal inference but I don’t know Sheila and so I can’t say for certain about her role in Brandon’s case. People say stupid shit when they’re hurting, maybe Sheila didn’t realize her words would result in her ex actually doing it? And she almost became a victim herself. I don’t know, the video did make it seem like she tried to fight for her son to get the help he needed but the system failed them. Which doesn’t surprise me, save for frustration.
The TL;DR of this comment is basically, I wish the mental health system in America would be better about it. And that more people are thoroughly educated on these things. My mom is a very loving person, but I tell her that my brother struggles to comprehend nuances in the moment and she defies it by saying that we may be autistic but we’re smart and have intelligence. Even well meaning people can screw up, and it’s all from lack of understanding. Education would seriously help… and boy do we got a long way ahead for that.

People with trust issues steming from the mistreatment of others dont trust humans, but they will trust ponies. For fans of this type of show, the point is to forget that its even a show and instead be "transported" into another, better world.
These worlds are usualy ruled by kindness and friendship unlike our world which is ruled by fear and exploitation. People learn from their respective worlds, the ponies learn kindness is real and the people who watch the show only believe so in the context of the show,not the real world, thus making the moral lessons meaningless.
The misstreatment and isolation causes this detachment from humanity and love for inhuman characters. Same reason anthro characters are popular.
BASICLY: The show is popular with outcast becouse it presents a belivable "other world" where people are friendly and care for others. It is the perfect escape from reality. The moral lessons are only belivable in the cartoon, not in real life, thought.

His mom is not an innocent party here by any means. Most serial killers have a troubled home life and this case is no exception. His mother literally told his father to hang himself and he did. I don't see how she gets to be called a victim, if anything this is partly her fault.

I feel that the downfall of this kid is not 100% his fault. I've been diagnosed with Bipolar, depression, and anxiety and I remember being younger and having fits of rage. I remember being depressed and angry all the time and didn't understand why. I absolutely believe if it weren't for the love and support of my mother, I wouldn't be where I am today. She had me diagnosed at an early age. She fought with the doctors who said nothing was wrong until we found a doctor who told us the truth. She fought for me to be accepted and treated fairly in school. She fought for me to get the meds I needed despite years of psychiatrists and doctors putting me on this and that. She was never in denial of me. She fought for me like no one else did and to this day I know she still has my back. That kid needed someone to fight for him. He needed a push in the right direction and he needed the support that he didn't have. This kid obviously had mental disabilities that weren't properly looked after. I'm grateful to have been dealt the cards I've been dealt. God bless anyone going through depression or anxiety or bipolar or anything mental illness-wise. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

This case is pretty similar to Randy Stair, a CZcamsr who had an obsession of the character Ember McLain from Danny Phantom. He believed that he was a ghost girl trapped in a boy's body and because of his delusions he shot up a grocery store and then himself so that he could "be with her in the afterlife." Both cases are extremely tragic all around.

The hung mannequin in his closet broke my heart. That kid was broken early on. My mother was murdered when I was 4 years old. I remember holding it all in, no tears, no pain, just nothin. When I turned 17 I received all her last belongings. Her diary, drawings, ideas and dreams, pictures, highschool yearbook, a watch with a scrape on it from a bullet that went through her hand, many letters about how much she loved me and wanted to live to watch me grow. I cried my eyes out for the first time, it felt like all the crying I should've done throughout those years I let out like a floodgate that day.. stuff like this can really break growing minds.. when I found out she was dead I remember my first reaction being to hide under my bed, I didn't want to see anyone.

Mom knew, the therapist and social workers knew the police knew. Not like the ones who didn’t display any issues. He told people, acted out his aggression and made no efforts to hide how he felt. Yet…. Nothing was done to prevent this tragedy. There is such a stigma with mental health issues and literally everyone being afraid of being sued allows this type of stuff to take place. Everyone passes the buck.

However, I would think when he was taken to the mental health hospital, they should of took the time to keep him there for observation and then properly diagnose him. I live in Indianapolis and live actually right near the FedEx and know a few people that worked there this night. This was very much so a tragedy.
I just wanted to applaud the worker Judy since no one is mentioning her. She helped direct her coworkers to get them out while he was firing into it through the turnstile and she also stayed herself and offered to direct the police inside to make it faster for them to look. She had no way of knowing he had ended himself, for all she knew he was there and she hadn't seen an officer yet. The relief of her realizing the approaching figure was an officer and not the shooter was a really emotional moment for me.
Judy was amazing. She did a great job and my heart breaks for her having to experience that. I hope she's well.

She was my little sister’s friend and I’d known her for years 💔 I remember calling friends who worked at FedEx that night and desperately hoping that no one I knew was a part of it, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. RIP Samaria, she was only 19.

This kid has shown so many signs. He's even verbalized his own fights with his mental state and how it affected is personal life as well. He clung on to a figure that gave him comfort during his own battle and after it was ripped away he still gave warning. Maybe as a cry for help in his own way. I don't sympathize with him, I pity him. And I don't like how his specialists, detectives, and parents just ignored it... No one was innocent in this aside from the victims.
True, he was litteraly crying for help, but they kept ignoring it. He probably felt alone and hopeless, it make me mad how most of this could have been prevented with therapy and not isolating him.
He really needed lots of help and therapy! And would have needed only one person who would been interested to know him and direct his life.
He clearly had lots of mental health problems which could been genetic. It would been a struggle for rest of his life to stay ok.
The mother has sought help many times though.
My sister adopted a child who would later show signs of mental illness. You could tell from the start (she was a newborn when they got her), but you could tell pretty quickly something was off with her...I mean like within the first 2 years. Despite her reaching out to everybody and anybody...they gave her no help...including the police, social services, the hospital and the psyche ward. She tried to kill my sister and her husband on multiple occasions. There is no help for those in need when facing a child who is mentally out of control or at least not in PA. She was finally diagnosed with Bipolar (age 20) and lives with her biological mother, who also has bipolar. The funny thing is we found out they knew she had bipolar, but didn't want to label her at such a young age...so no medicine and no help! Unreal!

Natasha's "please don't leave me" really broke my heart. Hearing 911 calls makes these cases so much more real you can just feel the fear. Absolutely devastating, I hope all the victims rest in peace and for the ones who survived this event I hope they can mentally recover and still live out their dreams and aspirations

So many of these true crime stories you hear dispatchers just bring absolute dillholes to the point that I am now afraid to call one if I need to. I'm glad to hear this small hopeful detail in such a sad case

They're EMERGENCY dispatchers, not your security blankets. THeir job is to asses the situation, determine weather there is an emergency and what type of emergency as to send the proper service to the location (another thing they need to learn before hand). Depending on the time of day, your average dispatcher has been exposed to such lovely calls including but not limited to: children calling for help after a parent is injured and unresponsive, domestic disputes (often ongoing during the time of the call), various medical emergencies involving scared panicking people, or just plain old dumb shit, all the while they have more calls on the line. Day after day, after day.
If you are hesitant to call emergency services because you're afraid somebody is not gonna kiss your booboo and tell you everything is going to be alright then you simply aren't having an emergency. When our car crashed and my mother now had a brand new joint between her elbow and her her shoulder, i was relieve when i got into a spot that had a signal. I didn't care about the tone the rando on the other side of the call answered. When my father had a heart attack, the only glimmer of hope my, at the time, 10 year old ass had was a quick response and the ambulance that arrived in a few minutes. One of the nurses that was present at the time, that now works with me, told me that she is sorry that they lost sight of me when that happened. Who cares? THey came to try and save my father's life, wasting time on me would have only decreased their already slim chances of bringing him back.
You're afraid of calling "dillholes" who work as a connection between people in need and on site crews who're supposed to help them? Pray to whatever god you think might be listening so nothing bad actually happens to you because we both know you wouldn't be able to take it.
