I was shooting 110-120 and after finding this channel and binge watching every video I quickly got that below 100 regularly. My last 15 rounds I shot a high of 98 and a low of 91. I just can’t seem to improve my putting and that is keeping me from breaking 90. This guy should write a book and cash in because this stuff works.
@@corydanielson7369 It was 100 degrees so that forced me to take my time, which helped. Also, I played to my slice on open holes and ditched the driver all together on narrow or "dangerous" holes. This helped me avoid any 2 stroke penalties that I commonly run into. Aside from that, correct club selection and luck.
Your golf philosophy has not only helped me improve my game but made me enjoy playing again. Like when I first started playing. I got so caught up in the rat race of trying to hit certain shots so that I could feel like a good golfer but I always just hit them bad and made my golfing unenjoyable. Thank you for what you do I'm back to fun relaxing golf
Another great video I've watched more than once. On your 50 yard shot(s)--the one on No. 7 in particular, I've found the best way to hit shots from 30-75 yards is to really focus on rotating left once you've got your backswing to where it needs to be. I paused the video at 10:48 where your impact is on that "My worst: 50 yards" shot on 7, and you can see that your hips and shoulders are still square to the target after the ball has been struck. This was my problem forever until I started watching countless tour pros hitting these low 1-2 hop lasers from 40-75 yards and they all do the same thing: fire the hips and keep their body rotating making the arms and hands complete passengers on the shot.
Conversely, on your pitch on the very next shot, you will see that you rotate exactly like I am saying to do on the 50 yard shots. Just take your pitching technique and apply it to those 30-75 yarders and all your videos will be "Breaking Par" videos, playa!
Faithful viewer here. I thought that I understood what "stress free" meant. Not really, Last night in my league, I had maybe the most stress free, easiest round of my life. Got there early and had a great warm up. Temp was great. Playing partner was pleasant without being intimidating. I didn't have the best round of my life -- although it was very good. It is just that every shot was easy. I bet I swung hard twice. Two stressful shots. One was partially behind a tree and one short sided in bunker. My misses were in the right places, so I could swing easy on the next shot. I two putted every hole, but never holed anything longer than 2 feet (I dont know the meter equivalent off the top of my head). It was so much fun -- almost zen. Thanks for the help.
Yes the ultimate goal is to be in a state of Zen. The day you think of nothing, with no doubts and no fears ever creeping in, is the day you go low. This is the hardest part, the trust that we can just swing and just stroke and putt and the ball will go where we want. We always want to get in the way and create scenarios where we fail in an attempt to cushion the blow of when we do "inevitably" fail
Playa, I took your advice again and hit a club I know I'm confident keeping in play. Played 6100 yards yesterday, 4i off every tee... shot about 8 strokes under my HC. No doubles at all, had 2 birdies.
Cut off 7.2, In a month! Was stuck for a long time, nearly two years. Was making bad decisions, shot choices. Practiced my short game and eliminated those silly shot choices I was making. Took your simple idea of taking stress free shots with clubs I’m confident with. Simple as that. Was like a eureka moment.
What I love about your philosophy is that it’s essentially the ultimate “Dumbo’s feather.” 1. Practice as much as you can 2. Only hit the shots you have time to practice 3. Play smart when you’re on the course. You’ve packaged what should be obvious into something people can really get excited about. And while I’ve intuitively known it to be true as long as I’ve played, I still walk around planting feathers and yelling “whaddaplaya!” every time my son hits a good shot. And I’m having more fun playing and shooting better scores.
Matt thanks for all the advice I really like the videos, it has improved my game immensely. Since watching went from a 12 to a 7 in a matter of months, no swing change just a mind change. My tip to you is, make your weakness your strength. If you struggle with 50 yard shots, hit them at the range until you get them to perfection. I used to struggle with 50 to 70 yd shots, I practice them for about 3 months, and now I love them. Thanks again for all the advice, it truly has made a huge difference.
I can only make a weakness a strength if I practiced enough. Between work, making videos, creating products and playing golf, I haven't got much time. I mean I can jam those shots and I do exaggerate a little on them that I am useless. I want to show playas there is no need to focus on what you CAN'T do as so much golf "destruction" not instruction focuses on. I did practice these shots while in Malaysia and I can only really do it on a grass practice facility because the artificial turf mats turn me off. In Bangkok. no real facilities, so will be looking to move to a new location where I have a good facility nearby and work on a few things. There is a lot to work on for me to get to the scratch level
using your 6 6 6 method i shot a 77 and a 78 the following week as an 18 handycap im now playing of 13 and your videos are amazing they make a very complicated game seem so simple Keep up the great content
My Golf game has become enjoyable again - reduced stress equals more fun - I will never break par again but made a few pars and a birdie last night while playing to my handicap exactly and having a great time. Thanks for the attitude adjustment.
Excellent news playa. The fact that you made a few birdies and pars means you could do that more often which means you could get closer to breaking par. Your capability is infinite if it is a priority and you are willing to do anything big poppa. No doubt. The streaks guys go on where they make 5 or 6 pars and a birdie (while playing off a 16 handicap) is a glimpse into their true potential. We have been conditioned to believe this si a fluke and that we will surely fail eventually and then the head worms come in and the guy makes 3 doubles in a row expecting the implosion. Keep going playa, you will be better than you can currently imagine and don't be embarrassed to have lofty ambitions that others laugh at, while they smash another 300 yards Oscar Bravo.
For some reason hearing you talk about golf not being a game of perfection got me over this weird obsession I've had at the range of being perfectly consistent before I go play any more games. It's caused me more stress and that just breaks the first rule ever. Maybe if I'm really good at rescuing my shots, I don't have to have so much pressure on each shot to be absolutely perfect. Thank you!
Seeking perfection and expecting perfection in golf is the best way to eventually give up completely. Keep that philosophy of confidence that no matter what happens on any given shot, you are the man from there on
Well guys!! After 3 years of shooting 72 or worse... Over and over and over again. I finally broke the mental block of 72 and shot a 1 under 71!! A 12 foot birdie putt that lipped in... Waddaplaya! Thanks for great content... It helped me get mentally strong to finally go under. Thanks buddy, from Canada.
Brilliant advice playa, I've been playing golf for over 40 years, when younger played with feeling not technical thoughts now however with watching CZcams videos and reading mental books I've gone from a 1 handicap to 6 I'll be using this concept from here on, thanks a once upon a time #playa 😉
I freaking love your content Matt! I love watching you and Fat Guy Golf so much that I'll probably try and put together some videos too in the future. Would love to play a round if you're ever in Canada.
Thanks for all your great videos. You describe game changes that work around the swing the player has and make it easy to understand. I have been playing for about 10 years and would rarely break 90. I have been watching your videos for about a month now and played about 10 rounds. I now consistently shoot in the low 80's and the last two rounds I played I shot a 79 and a 76. Thanks so much stress free golf like a bauss works amazing, when I make a bad shoot now I'm not even thinking about it 10 seconds later. That has alot to do with more striking consistency so my bad shots aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. Anyway course managment, playing to your strengths, and avoiding hazards at all cost even if it means not getting on the green, chipping, putting and not stressing out, these are things you preach over and over and brother you have converted me and I am more than thankful. I was about to quit and you saved my game and when I play now I feel like I'm actually playing golf and pretty good at that. Keep the great content up and the stress down, thanks for everything your doing.
A tip that helped me with feel on putts. I notice you start walking away as soon as you hit a putt. Instead, stay still and allow that visual feedback to absorb into your mind and link up to the physical feedback you just experienced when you hit the ball. Walking throws more physical data at your brain when it should be absorbing visual data and relating it to the physical data. You can do this with all shots, stay still, hold the finish, and link the visual to the physical. Great video as usual.
Great video Matt. Simon from SAS golf channel mentioned your channel in his vlog saying your an underrated channel he likes how you helping people with your course management. So keep up the good work
Thanks man, your golf management lessons are wonderful. Continue to do what are you doing now cause you've made a nice job till now. Don't look at the negative comments. Regarding to your problem, hitting up on the club face, don't change your stance just grip down the club 1 inch. Try to see what's happen and then let me know.
Good point about yards v meters. I just realised my Garmin watch gives distances in meters!!! Bloody that has made some difference to my game over the last two weeks!!!
Thanks playa. swing mechanics belong on the range, NEVER on the course unless it's a pure practice session implementing swing mechanics with 5 balls per hole
I wish they had that greenfee prices like that here in Germany!! With putting I think that is how John Daly did it to not too much time see the line pick it and putt it!! I used your risk free approach last week when I played it help a lot!! Great advice Matt!! Keep up the great vlogs!! Great drive on hole 6!!
Love these videos man, after coming off of a bad round and hating golf for the day I come home watch your videos and fall In love with you.... I mean the game, waddadream
Great vid as always, the "stress free" golf approach is really helping me. I have tried to really focus on my confidence and dedication to shots, based a lot on your tips and ideas. Latest update is buying a range finder, exactly as you are saying I feel so much more confident now on new courses since I know exactly what I can and cannot reach/hit barring extreme circumstances. Thanks for the content!
Matt, I love your golf instruction and downhome video style but you really should start an episode with you and J-Mac and Teaski sneaking onto the course at 4:30 in the morning. The playa as non payer.
Respect for rocking the oldschool Cleveland Launcher still. As far as your 5 points at the start - all good objectives, no score-focused stress involved.
When I hear your ending music, a part of me dies. 😢😢😢😢 we need tonnes more videos Matt. Top 3 things to watch. 1, game of thrones 2, golfsidekick 3, stranger things
What is game of thrones and stranger things? Sounds like different variants of Golf Sidekick to me! Game of Thrones when my game goes down the toilet. Stranger Things: Teaski
Golf Sidekick 😂😂😂 keep these great videos coming thick and fast Matt. I had my best round earlier this year using hybrid off tee after watching your video how to break 90. It worked a treat. As soon as I put driver back in the bag I’m back in mid/high 90s 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Waddanine! Excellent stuff, j Mac really trusts you too! If that was any of my buds I'd be hiding behind the cart or moving way up! Can't wait for round two! Not gonna lie, it's tough setting up the camera and shooting, did it for one hole and it was stressful, not even a full round! See golf sidekick Facebook page........
Just a note from what my coach says, something like a 2 iron you almost want to be playing in the same stance position as your driver. Like a ball width back from the instep of your leading foot (or 3 ball widths forward of center, whichever is easiest to visualize for you :).
A back story would only be in the works if it furthered the mission and message to reduce the world's collective handicap by 3 shots and keep more playas on the course, more often, having more fun, shooting lower scores!
Crazy, I broke 90 once this year and I finally decided to be disciplined enough to stick to playing only 6 iron off the tee and hit stress free shots. I had 4 birdies (record), hit 79% FW (record). Still managed a triple on the one hole I challenged (sigh), but it didnt blow up my round the next hole went back to the 6 iron and got back on track. Shot my lowest score of 82 with a triple on the card...I'm a believer. If it happens again, I'm buying some merch. #stressfreegolf
i follow you from the start, like your way to play your own golf, hope one day we ll play together , i just started play 3 years ago.. and more on winter cause work, cheers
So, there I was following the way of the playa. 3 wood off the tee, low-90s dropped to low 80s with a personal best 81 on my home course. Handicap down, life was stress free. Had a lesson, worked on swing and emphasized driver. Back to course and mid-90s. Bye-bye driver, hello way of the playa. 3 wood city boyfriends.
Waddaplaya. I hit 2 iron off most tees today and only 2 drivers. Stress-free 77 and with proper putting and without a couple mental problems on par 3's - I would have been on a 72 easy peasy. Just pure stress-free golf waddagame when it is relaxed and fun!
I hate the fact you can hit a drive and literally turn your back and walk away. Those drives I’d stare at like I saw a unicorn going through the sky. Wish I could hit as well as you. Nice job!
I played two rounds in Burma this weekend. One stressful while learning the course - 86 shots Today, stress-free trusting my 2 iron - 77 but could easily have been 73 Waddadifference.
@@GolfSidekick a few friends and I are going on a golf trip. Haven't played any of the courses before. They look and read really challenging. 8 iron and up I hit really well, the rest are... Inconsistent at best. Split all the fairways 140 - 160 with the 8 you think?
With you pitches from 70 yards and inside, keep your left arm close to your body and the consistensy will come, I played it like you did in this video before and struggled so hard on those type of shots mainly cuz of poor ballstriking.
Been looking into them, may just go ahead with it. I will be testing some in the next couple months and they may become a thing. I have never used them but why not!
I’m gonna try the fairy dust thing next time I’m at the range 🧚♀️. But in all seriousness I heard that’s why tour players do the twirl, so they can lock that swing in their memory banks if it’s a good one.
With respect, may I please offer you some advice on the 50 yard shot? You see, it's down to psychology. You need to be clear with yourself about how you intend to play the shot. What I see is that you may occasionally decelerate a bit. But it's likely because your trying to play a touchy, half swingy, slow swingy, handsy finishy shot? Am I right? I think your better approach might be to view the stroke as being a long pitch that's stroked more firmly with good chest rotation. Emphasis on firmly. Play a lower, more driven pitch with some zippy speed. Speed from the chest and shoulders. Finish Iow left, and rotate with speed. Your short game is already sooooo good. You own that pitch. Just make that same pitching movement with a slightly bigger, slightly faster swing. Then, you will find that control your looking for. From 40, 50, 60... and so on. It's all about the acceleration, and leading the handle. Just play a long firm pitch, Playa! ;)
Yes sir. I do exaggerate a little bit. I prefer to show people you don't need to focus on the weakness if you have enough strengths. I can get great at the inside 70 yarders - I just don't practice them. It used to be the best part of my game. When I am able to move to a place with decent facilities around, I wil surely work on every aspect of the game!
Hey Matt! Love your videos and appreciate all the advice you give. I’m in the market for a reasonably priced rangefinder and was hoping you could give me some suggestions. Thanks playa hope to hear from you.
At 13:30 Every single time swing mechanics pops in to my head out on the course I screw up the shot. I try to keep them out but sometimes they pop in anyway
The 8th hole peek a boo cracked me up. But couple questions if you dont mind. 1. Is your wedge setup 50, 52, 58 or am I mistaken? no 54? 2. I see you can easily work the ball both ways, but you said your natural shot is a fade.. so when you hit a draw, do you strengthen your grip or do you just change your stance setup and/or swing path? Thanks man, love the vids!
1. I was in the process of receiving a new wedge from a subscriber who wanted to sponsor me a wedge. That 52° was J-Mac's as I was testing if I wanted that one which I did end up getting (Taylormade Milled grind) I now have a set up of 45° 47° 50° 54° 58° 2. I don't think of working the ball with any technique. I merely think it while I take practice swings. I over-exaggerate the movement I want on th epractice swings, so when I stand over the shot, I hit my normal shot and just accept that my body will do what I encouraged it on the practice swing, just a tamer version. The driver is a natural fade. For a draw, I want to finish with my hands almost resting on my left shoulder. That's what I focus on. Irons have always drawn, I guess because of my rotating clubface through the ball. To fade it, I keep high hands which is a feeling I found on the range. I don't focus on grip, swing path, technical. Just feelings
Thanks for that info.. quite eye opening! Don’t feel obliged to answer this follow up on your shot shapes... But if an approach shot calls for a fade, do you attempt to fade the iron? Or just do what you can with your natural draw? Thanks Brethren!
@@jpm7049 I faded one on the 8th hole and the 18th hole. I don't really see much value in it. On those holes, I think it's best to just playu your shape to the center of the green. It brings in too much uncertainty and stress hitting a fade with the irons for me because it almost NEVER works out the way I want it to.
yo BF. i've been using an adaptation of the "nail in the back of the ball" swingthought with my irons and it helps me clear my hips. however, when i try "swinging through" as a swingthought i often start topping the little fucker. you dig?
I typically hit high 90s or low 100s. I've been watching your videos about course management and managed to hit 85 last week.

Regarding to your problem, hitting up on the club face, don't change your stance just grip down the club 1 inch. Try to see what's happen and then let me know.
Whats BDE?
JMac walking out from behind the golf cart during your backswing highlight of this video 😂 great video Matt!!
"OK...PEEKABOO!!!"
Howdy!
@@The_JMac Haha...the man himself! What went through your mind when you poked your head out from behind the buggy?
@@tonyp.6246 Last time J Mac went for a CAT scan, they found nothing in there

Wadda baus! Stress free golf is an movement changing CZcams videos about golf. Keep up the good work
Good point about yards v meters. I just realised my Garmin watch gives distances in meters!!! Bloody that has made some difference to my game over the last two weeks!!!
Loved how you included price ect.
I think more people need to visit Asia because the golf is amazing for a good price and great experience
New sub here. I find myself hearing your voice in my head now when i golf. Eazy peazy. 🤣👍🏼
this channel has helped my game tons..love watching this..WAY OF THE PLAYA!
Couldn't agree more about swing mechanic thoughts messing up a swing feel at 12:42. Keep up the great work Playa!
I think you need to move playa!
Honestly one of my favorites that you have done. Love your vids mate!
Golfsidekick I've watched this video 3 times in the last 24 hours waiting for part 2.
Nice Vid! Let's figure out a way to play together soon.
Go mrshortgame!
Love these videos man, after coming off of a bad round and hating golf for the day I come home watch your videos and fall In love with you.... I mean the game, waddadream
Waddafallerinlove
A lot of times I focus on a specific mechanic in my swing and get that one thing right and the other things usually fit into place
Commitment = necessary information + analysis of landing area + anticipated shot shape + balls of steel and an iron will power
You are such an inspiration
Thank you sir, and I agree!
Which one is the launcher sir? I would love to be smashing a Launcher 460 driver but I don't have any Launcher anymore. I do love Cleveland though!
You knocked your drive 330+ yards on 6? Holy mackerel, waddarocket!!!
Making Golf Great Again!!! I remember when I first said this..!!
Matt I live on the Sun. You can’t hit that 2 iron and expect to get a parski. Your club will melt and you’ll end up hitting it too thinski.
Dudeski you talk too much sense-ski
When I hear your ending music, a part of me dies. 😢😢😢😢 we need tonnes more videos Matt. Top 3 things to watch.
1, game of thrones
2, golfsidekick
3, stranger things
I practice my under 100y shots on a baseball or football field, by playing “catch” with a friend at different distances
This is the best possible practice. It's fun, it's conscious but it's also sub-conscious. Waddadrill
He trusts me, then walks in front of the cart which I saw on the downswing - it could have really been ugly!
Wadda notification. 😎
I absolutely love the course
Me too! Back nine is even better
Just a note from what my coach says, something like a 2 iron you almost want to be playing in the same stance position as your driver. Like a ball width back from the instep of your leading foot (or 3 ball widths forward of center, whichever is easiest to visualize for you :).
Best golf channel on CZcams handsdown. When’s the backstory video coming? Awesome content!
A back story would only be in the works if it furthered the mission and message to reduce the world's collective handicap by 3 shots and keep more playas on the course, more often, having more fun, shooting lower scores!
Golf Sidekick well said! I appreciate the time you take to film and instruct. Keep the vids coming and as always - play on playa
That 'tee pop' at 2:45 is the stuff of legends. Waddarightinthepanty!
Waddapantystriker! Wait til you see FOrest City where it pegged back in the ground!
A new golf sidekick video and a glass of red. Job done. Happy Friday!

I’ll call you.... a liar 😭. Love your videos Matt 👌
Best driver swing I’ve seen from you on #3
I need part two playa!
Me too
I've watched part one 3 times
Wow, those patches look great, can't wait to get my feather patch!
Enjoyed your gold video.
Your snooth swing with the 5 iron on 9 was shot of the first half. 180 out long irons are never fun to hit but that is golf
Really love the groovy beats excellent👍
Love these videos. Love your ideas and philosophy. What’s the tune you close with ? Adds to the atmosphere.
I think that one is one I paid a license for "Purple Planet - Time of Your Life"

Great video, as always! Can't wait for my Waddaplaya merchandise to arrive! 😁
In the process of being made for you big poppa
The hammer the nail concept came from Adam Young!
I think it's probably from a lot of guys. I like my man hogansbooklied on Instagram and is the inspiration for the improvement in my driver!
i follow you from the start, like your way to play your own golf, hope one day we ll play together , i just started play 3 years ago.. and more on winter cause work, cheers
Absolute great videos love your tips
Hi Matt! Another outstanding video! My hero! 🤗😎😀
Nice 9!!! Lets see these birdies!
Coming soon
The early finger......dreamland!!😍
I hate the fact you can hit a drive and literally turn your back and walk away. Those drives I’d stare at like I saw a unicorn going through the sky. Wish I could hit as well as you. Nice job!
Waddaplaya! Stress free golf is what I think every game now
I played two rounds in Burma this weekend.
One stressful while learning the course - 86 shots
Today, stress-free trusting my 2 iron - 77 but could easily have been 73
Waddadifference.
@@GolfSidekick a few friends and I are going on a golf trip. Haven't played any of the courses before. They look and read really challenging. 8 iron and up I hit really well, the rest are... Inconsistent at best. Split all the fairways 140 - 160 with the 8 you think?
For the moment the swing is masters
Lmao at “ok boyfriends” hahaha
I need that hat!❤️
With you pitches from 70 yards and inside, keep your left arm close to your body and the consistensy will come, I played it like you did in this video before and struggled so hard on those type of shots mainly cuz of poor ballstriking.
Usually takes me 200 balls and I am ace. I just don't have any facilities nearby in Bangkok
Great video as always
For alignment off the tee, I use the ball's name to align similar to when aligning the ball for putting.
Works every time playa - me too.
50k should be waddaplaya iron covers!! super pumped to get my polo AND i ordered TWO of the bucket hats haha
Been looking into them, may just go ahead with it. I will be testing some in the next couple months and they may become a thing. I have never used them but why not!
Love your videos
Come play Lee Valley in Ireland, plenty of doglegs and when it is straight there is a lot of traps or slopes to consider
Love it. I hope to be in Ireland soon
What’s your putter??? Looks great ! Do a what’s in your bag playa
I’m gonna try the fairy dust thing next time I’m at the range 🧚♀️. But in all seriousness I heard that’s why tour players do the twirl, so they can lock that swing in their memory banks if it’s a good one.
The triggers we use to remind ourselves can put us in the zone. You need to be in the zone where you feel good, otherwise you're in for shit.
Outstanding
Just here; living for the birdie music
Nice swing.Hands are quite low at address compared to mine.Im gna try lower hands at range 👍
That 52° was J-Mac's as I was testing if I wanted that one which I did end up getting (Taylormade Milled grind) I now have a set up of 45° 47° 50° 54° 58°
It brings in too much uncertainty and stress hitting a fade with the irons for me because it almost NEVER works out the way I want it to.
yo BF. i've been using an adaptation of the "nail in the back of the ball" swingthought with my irons and it helps me clear my hips. however, when i try "swinging through" as a swingthought i often start topping the little fucker. you dig?
nice, how many greens did you hit?
