  • My craniotomy was 7 weeks ago and this is where I am with my diagnosis and waiting to find out what type of brain tumour I had. Recovery and waiting for the results has been such a long, stressful process so thank you to everyone who has reached out ❤️
I'm sorry if this video seems negative I'm still feeling a wee bit down but since filming this video I'm feeling very positive about meeting with my neurosurgeon on Thursday :)

I discovered I had a tumor in March last year, I had a craniotomy and I experienced what you are going through. It's very difficult not to know if you have cancer or not and I know that all the torrent of thoughts eats away at the soul. After six weeks, I received a soul-soothing message: I didn't have cancer. Even better: I didn't have a tumor, but rather the rupture of a gigantic AVM that, unfortunately, killed part of my brain and made my neurosurgeon believe that I had a tumor that was bleeding.
Everyone who goes through similar episodes (tumor, aneurysm, AVM, bleeding or any other event that affects the brain) begins to see life from a different perspective and reconsiders priorities and thoughts.
I really hope that you have the best prognosis possible and that, in the future, you can look back on everything you've been through and be proud that you won this battle.

curious neuroscience student here, but what part of your brain died and what has it been like dealing with that?

    • @DiesIraeJC
      @DiesIraeJC Před 7 měsíci

@@casw1883 When I had the hemorrhage, the auditory cortex and Wernicke's area were affected. I couldn't understand spoken language, and when I tried to speak, the words didn't make sense. My internal monologue was intact and I was able to think normally, just a little confused due to the seizure and the medications (they started giving me corticosteroids to combat the toxicity of the blood that was in contact with the brain parenchyma). I could also read and understand everything. After 5 days of bleeding, I had a craniotomy and a mass (which, at first, was a tumor) measuring 2.5x2.5x2.5cm was removed. This removed mass was part of my Wernicke's area and auditory cortex (to a lesser extent). Due to the depth of the lesion, part of the white matter was also removed (more specifically, the arcuate fasciculus (AF) and superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF)). With the lack of fascicles, I have a small (nowadays) difficulty in speaking and writing, placing me as a sufferer of conduction aphasia and dyslexia. Neuroplasticity helped me a lot and continues to help me, but I still suffer from paraphasias and it is still very difficult to repeat (I understand everything, but I can't repeat) sentences or understand sequences of numbers (which need to be broken into smaller parts).
There's a good chance I'll become a neurosurgeon. As I mentioned in my original comment, anyone who goes through situations like the one I went through begins life with different eyes. I always liked neuroscience and what happened to me lit a fire in me.
As I ''lost'' my English, there will probably be grammar errors, but I imagine it is possible to understand everything.
I uploaded the first MRI (before surgery) and one post-surgery. Feel free to ask me anything.

Also, I thought of something else…. Every time a dr walks in your room, ask for a business card! In the future, If multiple drs are involved, write down which dr prescribed what medication. When they say cancer patients work around the clock, “they” mean it! We found it easier to get a bound note book and journal each day when there is an encounter with a dr. After years of treatment it got a bit confusing to us all. (My brother, mom and I) I hope they can diagnose you soon. Best of luck. I’m still hanging in there for you and praying for you as well. You got this!! 😊

So frustrating they are making you wait! Good or bad news it is unconscionable to make you worry for one minute longer than necessary! The doctors do this all the time, though. One doctor did it to my husband last year (in the US.) Wanted us to wait a month to get updated results from a CT lung scan and we already knew he was fighting a terminal scarring disease. I just had a thought. If bad news, they probably would not make you wait, because it would be important to start treatment right away. I know you can feel all the good wishes, love, concern, and prayers. May the support give you the strength to function with confidence and peace of mind if the news is not good. If you have to move back to Ireland, I hope the process is not complicated. I know your family and friends will welcome you with open arms. And you now have friends all over the world! Thinking of you and hoping for good news. ❤️

Today I watched your vlog while my daughter was undergoing chemo. She is 26 years young. And today she received amazing news and she only has 3 more days of treatment! My advice to you (which you can take or leave) is to rest (ad you are still healing from a big surgery), pray, eat something delicious, hug your pets and your sweet Devon, journal and stay as calm as possible (not easy) as you await your appointment. Receive all of the positive energy being sent your way from around the world! I pray that you are able to withstand the long waiting game…you are almost there. Everything will fall into place for you, even if it doesn’t feel like it at this moment. God will take every little worry and turn it all around for you. Prayers from Ohio, US…just a few hours away from you! 💛🙏🏼🫶

If not I highly recommend you to get treatment in Ireland. I spent 4 years in Canada and my health was significantly declining, I didn’t receive a proper treatment, was misdiagnosed so many times.

Hoping for the best results and a plan to help you.
Not trying to throw a spanner but ask if you can fly after hearing news.
Record your visit to review after. Tend to go numb with all the information and you might be busy reacting instead of clearly listening to everything.
If you intend to fly back, ask for your complete medical file with test results and notes.
It will take time and both Dr and front desk should be told.
They won't forward actual details to another country. The abridged version could lead to details overlooked.
I know personally living in Canada can feel isolated even with a partner when missing family.
Hopefully the pup had current shots three months ago or longer. Red tape to avoid quarantine upon arrival.

For all its many flaws and challenges its still bar none the best healthcare in the world. Canadian pts in my experience are always in shock at the speed and dept of care they receive in the US without constantly being put off and slid to the back of the line waiting for answers that never come. My primary care will do this a lot - randomly saying he needs to speak in person. There are just some things doctors prefer to discuss face-to-face, not necessarily bad things. Just important things! A nurse at my doctor’s office once told me not to worry too much, because if it was something BAD, that he would be like get in the office asap. Sounds to me like your doctor wants to have a good thorough talk on where you’re at in your journey, is all. I pray you are holding up okay, do not downplay your feelings during this time ❤ They are valid. Sending love from my family to yours. I keep checking back frequently for updates - you are not in this alone. We are all with you and checking on ya like a bestie
