2 Years on, Im still using the Benro Mach 3 TMA38CL and G2 Ball Head, and its as good now as it was when I first got it, I really think this is up there with the best when in comes to Landscape Photography Tripods.

Hi Ben
Love your work and style. After your original video and following other research I purchased the exact same combo here in New Zealand and I absolutely love it. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Hope you continue to travel well and stay safe in these difficult times. I have relatives in the UK and understand you are having a much tougher time than we are here in New Zealand.
Keep up the great work
Wayne Henson
Hi Wayne. Thanks for your message! Oh brilliant, it's such a great tripod isn't it!
Yeah the UK is pretty strict at the moment but it needs to be, I wish I was in New Zealand! Stay safe, and keep in touch
Ben
Love mine! Have had it for about 2 years.
Great! :)
Thanks Ben, I have recently been looking at moving on from my 3 legged thing Albert and I noticed your tripod so I placed my order and it arrived today, it is very impressive from what I have seen so far, feels like awesome quality for sure 👍
Glad I could help! You wont be disappointed
Perfect timing. Literally only 30 minutes ago was looking online to buy a new tripod. Tempted by the Benro new Tortoise series but will look at this one as alternative. Looked on your website but couldn't see a list of equipment you use. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place :-)
Yes the new Benros look fantastic don't they!!
They are all brilliant tripods!
great video , thanks for the tip
Love mine. I use the BENRO geared head as well for architectural shots 🙂
Just ordered this same one off amazon today as I'm off to pembrokeshire & skomer Island week after next & need something lighter than my manfrotto MT055XPRO3,
Im hoping my MHXPRO-BHQ2 ball head is going to fit straight on these legs.... thanks for the 2 year update Ben
I have a Benro similar to yours, probably an older version (around 10 years). Excellent tripod, but it never leaves my house except in a car. For everything else I have a travel tripod. About half the weight and when used carefully - stable enough.
Great 👍
I use the aluminum version of this tripod for astrophotography and it's EVEN HEAVIER! But it makes a rock solid base for my tracker and camera setup. No regrets whatsoever. Plus aluminum is less expensive than carbon fiber.
So good aren't they
Can you clarify the height WITHOUT the center column? I am 6'2" tall so getting a tripod close so that height would be good.
Perfectly timed with some Christmas money burning a hole, I was mulling over this exact tripod...although now I feel that cleaning my current tripod with a towel and hot water is now woefully insufficient! :D
Wait till you get the Benro, it's so easy to take a part 😁😜 enjoy it! You won't regret it 😁
I just bought this exact set up on ebay open box, new for 350.00 Cant wait to use it and do my own review of it.
Very helpful and informative, especially about the stability. A year ago, I looked for a carbon fibre tripod for photography on beaches in Scotland (in normal times), so compatibility with water rather than weight saving was my main focus. Those that I tried seemed rather flimsy and would be unsuitable in soft sand and also for astrophotography, another interest better done in Scotland. Thought that I was making too many demands on one piece of kit, but this looks like a really good option. Just wondered whether you had ever tried it on very uneven ground, such as round rockpools, where the legs might have to be splayed out and that unused central column brought into play?
I have tried it everywhere, and like I said, its the best tripod I have ever had, it wont be going anywhere :)
Has anyone mounted the artcise mb52 ball head on this tripod? Thanks in advance
Great video, Ben.
Thank you ever so much 👍
Hi Ben. Please may I ask you a question. Would you know if the Kenro Ghc1 Gimbal fit on this Benro tripod. Was just wondering if the base plate bolt would be long enough to take the gimbal head. Whatever help you could advise me on would be much appreciated.
Is it possible to convert it as a monopod
Just wondering do the twist leg locks need a grease/ lubricant on them after cleaning? I currently use a Gitzo GT3543XLS and their leg locks need a grease, but despite that they still seize up and refuse to unlock. It has to be the worst tripod i have ever bought.
I have the TMA47 aluminium one paired with the geared head, all in for £250. It's an absolute beast. You definitely know you've carried it after a long hike, but it is rock solid. I love it.
Yeah that thing is a beast!
Subscribed! Ben I would love to talk to you regarding the maintenance and the mechanism of the twist locks. I just bought one of these myself and I'm curious about the experience of twisting the locks, extending the legs and cleaning the mechanisms. The twist locks seem to catch just barely after trying to untwist them and I have to turn past the point that they catch in order to extend the legs. Also, some of the legs require more force to extend and push back in... which doesn't seem right. I wonder if I were to clean/oil somehow... the experience would be smoother. I haven't seen a single review mention the fact that the twist locks catch when trying to untwist them... all of the videos show the untwisting to be super smooth.
I just won the Benro Rhino 34C with the VX30 Ball Head. To be fair it is very similar to the one that you have, except it does not come with the stubb central column. Can you tell ne what diameter the central column is on that tripod, mine is 32.4mm if that is the same size I should be able to get one of those. I have seen you around a few times, and should have said Hi. I live in Poole, and I too am a landscape Photographer, missing being out. Ohh well.
Agreed. Got same set up too. Outstanding.. only bloody problem can’t find the long metal spikes to add to it. No one sells them. Out of stock tine after time.
So good isnt it!
Hi Ben. Christmas Day and I have just opened my gift to find this tripod within. I have a query. Located just between two of the leg-securing hex head screws is a small retaining hook of some sort, freely rotating and with a knurled grip on the inboard edge. I cannot see any reference to it in the supplied instructions sheet. Any idea what it is for? Cheers Ben. David Bailey.
Have you tried the GD3WH geared head? Really love mine over a ball head.
I have had geared heads in the past and stray away from them really just due to their size. They are however fantastic 👍
I am thinking of getting this geared head for my Benro Travel Angel which is a brilliant tripod too, but could also use the bigger tripod for certain situations like long exposure when there is wind, for example, so might in the end have both and then use any combination of the two tripods and two heads depending on the situation!
Great info.....do you use a leveling base for this tripod?
Thanks! No I don't
Good tripod for the money. Fits in my checked suitcase without the head. But, I am replacing it with a slightly smaller and lighter tripod for travel.
I've seen you on the Cobb at Lyme Regis before, shooting the same sunset as me!
Hello Ben..
is that suitable for Wildlife with Sigma 150-600 lens and 80d camera.....
Yes 100%
All you'd need to get is the wildlife head rather than the ball head 👍
How does this compare to the Rhino? I have ordered the Benro Polaris head. Need something to mount it on.
Much the same, I have the biggest rhino, but the Mach 3 is a bit bigger and chunkier, and for that reason I use the Mach 3 alot more 👍
@@BenKapurPhotography Cheers! While I wait for the Polaris I want to get a cheaper more portable head (potentially to mate to a more travel friendly tripod down the track when we can get away). How does GX ball heads compare to the G2? I cant pick them apart from load capacity. My manfrotto compact just cant deal with the A7Riv + sigma....
@benkapur What happened to your three legged thing tripod?
It was okay, but not big enough and sturdy enough for my liking also I got 2 new Benro Rhino tripods too so didn't need the TLT
Maybe a video in the future on exactly what you do to maintain your tripod?
I have taken mine apart a few times to get dust and sand out, especially if I've been to the beach.
Like I said in the video, I use hot soapy water and cleaning alcohol to clean all the bits and bobs every now and again 👍
