What a loss When Tim Russert died. Nobody seems to have his way of dealing with people so genuinely. There is a void that cannot be filled by the people doing interviews today.
Phil is one of those people that as soon as you see them or hear them a huge grin comes on my face and I just feel good all over. I miss hearing Phil and Bill on the Yankee broadcasts and all of the birthday wishes and Holy Cows. God Bless you and Thank You.
You just can't fake how genuinely happy these guys were to see each other. What a fun conversation! I would have loved being in the bar after the show with those guys. That's when the REAL stories come out. haha.
WOW!!! I don't know how I missed this on t.v. in 2002! For any REAL baseball fan this Tim Russert interview is pure gold!! I grew up a 'Yankees hater', but these three guys were the best! I was a lefty pitcher in high school back in the 1960s, and I proudly wore Whitey Ford's #16. Not too many ballplayers funnier than Scooter Rizzuto..."I tripped over Yogi's wallet!" LOL!!!
The first time I saw Whitey pitch was while watching on television (with my father and next-door neighbor) the 4th and final game of the 1950 World Series. Ford was shutting out the Phillies, and my neighbor noted with some distain that, after striking out some batters, Whitey (just a rookie) flashed a big smile. Late in the game, the Phillies were able to start a comeback and Yankee manager Casey Stengel took Whitey out of the game. Allie Reynolds got the last out by striking out backup catcher Stan Lopata.
Ted Williams comment about pitchers was during an interview with Joe DiMaggio. He was talking about in general, across-the-board - nobody in particular, and certainly had no reference to Whitey Ford. He also said that Joe D was the greatest baseball player that he had personally seen, and Joe D said that Williams was the greatest hitter.
My favorite part was when Yogi was making an excuse that he was a rookie when he did something wrong and Phil says "owe never mind the first year, you're supposed to be ready when you come to the Yankees". The playful jabber between these guys is golden.
@@michaelmiller2397 😂🤣😂 Pittsburgh is a lively, lovely small city and after 60 years I vowed to forgive… well, everyone in Pittsburgh except Bill Mazaroski who scarred my childhood
This was absolutely awesome....but Jackie was safe at home...Yogi had the glove down but in the middle of the plate Jackie slid across half of the plate to get to the glove...we still won the game but lost the series

This clown, Russert wasn't even listening to what Ford said, i.e., '[Berra] just went by instinct'..in other words, not a lot of thought or certainly no deep thought/''overthinking'' went into his (Berra's) managerial approach to the game . To wit: Interviewer follows up Ford's point with respect to "Yogi's" non-intellectual style of managing with comments like 'smart baseball...it's a thinking man's game isn't it Yogi...you really gotta...' Yogi:(Trying not to embarrass Russert for ignoring what Ford had just stated) "Well, a little bit... '
This is what I loved about Russert. The pure joy he showed being in the room with these greats!
Bless those 4 men, a treasure interview!

Like Johnny Carson on 'The Tonight Show'.
I tripped over yogis wallet .... Great line. What a delight to watch.
Yogi Berra. A national treasure.
Rest in peace # 8 10 16 🙏

Yogi played in 13 world series - a record never will be broken.
Yeah, you can't 'just' finish first anymore to get to the "Series".
Greatness beyond words to describe !!!!!

Yes...the stories containing 'adult content'. LOL!!
Love these guys!
What a historic interview
The Joy emanating from Russert in this historic interview was Palpable ! He was like a kid in a candy store !!...

I love t hese shows
Great show!
As a lifelong Yankee fan, this is the best. RIP to all 4.
I know this will be a simple statement but it’s what makes it profound “ these guys are baseball players”

Unfortuantely all of these guys are gone now.. RIP
I cried when Mazaroski hit that home run in 1960.. but I was 7 years old 😂
I jumped off the top of the sofa and blew out our color tv and pop slapped me...hated not only the Piates but PITTSBURGH ever since.
@@michaelmiller2397 😂🤣😂 Pittsburgh is a lively, lovely small city and after 60 years I vowed to forgive… well, everyone in Pittsburgh except Bill Mazaroski who scarred my childhood
I was 11 years-young, and jumped for joy like Maz did around the bases!! I hated the Yankees!
I was nine -- I didn't cry but I was very upset. The Yankees were an offensive juggernaut in that series, but couldn't win any of the close games.
Yogi gets such a kick out of Phil
Wow! That was great.
I love these 3 all time great Yankees
I was a Brooklyn fan,so I HATED those guys when they were playing, but this interview is the best, thanks
He was out. Yogi and Whitey were right wow.
Yogi had the mitt right in front of the plate ON the ground. Definitely out.
Russert fit right in with these great men. Miss him even though I am Republican!
This is gold..
Unfortunately, they've all passed.
From buffalo the alltime best interviewer
Maybe there were better players, maybe there weren't. What isn't debatable is there will never be a group of fellas that were pals like those Yankees.
Because winning is so much fun!
Precisely.
Did this interview take place in baseball heaven?
COOL INTERVIEW ! SATURDAY 7/15/23 JULY 15, 2023
This was absolutely awesome....but Jackie was safe at home...Yogi had the glove down but in the middle of the plate Jackie slid across half of the plate to get to the glove...we still won the game but lost the series
Please subscribe, 97% of the viewers aren't subscribed and I would love for you to be a part of what I do, that would help me alot, much love guys! ❤️

"I tripped over Yogi's wallet" lol.
Yogi was the smartest catcher...
Can we bring back the term “huckleberry”?
DiMaggio was notoriously cheap. It cost people to be in his presence. That is Amazing
The guy who singlehandedly blew the 64 & 73 WS called a great manager???
Phil "Ruzzuto"
Two YANKEES LEGENDS yogi Berra and Whitey Ford. Awesome
you could not see a better show even it was scripted

Lighten up, Nancy.
Tim was a great man. His death was shocking. 4 legends
