The way he was acting wasn't appropriate to the situation, so...I wouldn't call that 'trying'. Best I could tell, he was on a Torch map, and if that's a normal Torch map, it means he's working alongside military personnel, someone sensible enough to be hired by EXO or the like. Acting like a dipshit isn't exactly appropriate conduct for that.

Roleplay usually doesn't work out because everyone already knows what kinda crap you're trying to pull when you talk to them (i.e. "Wanna have a talk in maintenance" or "Can you show me the backroom?" etc.)

As someone who does roleplay on SS13 I only like the medium RP servers.
When you play on LRP servers most are just power gaming or valid hunting making it feel like the people you are fighting are just NCPs or some shitters.
HRP takes itself to real (or is just XXX) and does not let you get into a goofy or stupid but fun situation.
If I can have the hole station be part of a debate about whether or not we should call the shuttle with our tech saved in a floppy disk and leave the station for the xeno or let xenos take the whole of science but will be (maybe) be friendly towards us is far more fun then just going in to kill them to "win" or because of "Mah standard operating procedures"
I only roleplay on Colonial Marines and salt in dchat

with how most MRP servers are, they're just better off being a HRP server for what individual admins of certain servers are from personal experience of witnessing/reading the Swiss cheese of rules that are just in territory of an HRP but don't want to be called one or they'll loose a chunk of traffic from individual players who don't wish to be violently barked/breathed down upon for the slightest of slip ups or something of assuming the player has made an Ironic joke **even though i wasn't even making a ironic joke but the admin there cant take anything at all and also making jokes of TG grey tides doing crazy flips and tricks to do some effort posts of some kind** and mind you the folks there have very short tempers from that one station boat has been banned from for being a man who wanted to do something goofy on a server that says they're a MRP but are a HRP as they dont like anyone who tries to do something fun on a half empty station of over 8 floors of a space elevator that would totally not get ruined by a lone grey tider who could brick the server in one go with proxys and vpn.

thats another reason i like goonstation. the admins are based (for the most part, one dude asked about building a singularity in game on the discord server and since he asked a question about it on the discord server and he was doing it in game it counted as meta gaming and he got a warn for it. its apparently so they enforce all rules equally even if its not hurting anyone. they do this so all cases are dealt with equally. kinda based but kinda not based), they don't care if you give out all access for a gimmick as head of personal

hey i worked hard on replacing everyone's belt with missing textures
This struck a note with me, my first role play game and I’m being called cringe or whatever becuase I try to do something interesting and not scripted. I don’t know if I’m the cringe one but I spent the rest of my time in that game not trying to have fun with others but instead putting plasma in the air, blowing up science, putting slimes in lockers, and giving people in surgery mute and blindness. I don’t think it’s cringe, I think I’m the only one really having fun here.

one time i did have a good roleplay experience, i was a curator and had an eager assistant. a clown kept attacking us in the peaceful library so we put the boots to him and left him to maintenance. we got arrested but after questioning and some actual rp we got off as it was more or less self defense

Lrp is a more chaotic arcade take if you enjoy that. Hrp is more of literally arpee if you enjoy that or looking to lay off from a burning space station.

Shame about how TG is going down the damn drain, despite being the most popular server group in all of SS 13.
The best days of TG are behind it. I can only hope the spirit and code live on.
Even the single largest server I knew of, Colonial Marines, had its code leaked in the end, and it ultimately saved the code when it too, went down the drain.

@@arkan5000 I feel like the only time I'm ok with Valid Hunting, is when it's an extremely powerful vampire or a cult that's gone higher in the numbers because at that point, it's a fight for survival. But you're right, it's kind of cancer still. Me, if I see traitor gear I won't even say anything. I'll heal the guy and just let him go, won't even tell sec because I want him to not kill me or maxcap medbay.

The problem with SS13 is that it doesn't allow for roleplay at all. This is mostly due to Admins and Mods.
Want to do something outside of your role just for a light chuckle? BAN!
In fact, doing anything outside of your role is usually grounds for being banned.
Can't antag unless antag role. Not even light antag. Not a "you can't kill without provocation" ban. Oh no, a "you can't kill at all, 'cause you're not antag" ban.
Yeah, way to give Sec nothing to do all round except be shitcurity. Have them solve actual crimes? Nope! Too much work! Solve actual disputes? Nope! Too much work! Have Sec try to keep order on station? Nope! Too much work! Instead, their only purpose is to screw over regular players and ignore the antag. Probably why so many people antag... It's at least more fun to screw over the entire station in creative ways when you can't even do anything fun or interesting in most servers because "Ban for not doing your job".
Nevermind that the vast majority of jobs on these servers are utterly pointless busywork that you accomplish in the first five minutes of gameplay and then look for ways to invent your own fun.
The goal should always be "to have fun" and to keep people from being extremely malicious to each other. Let the clever asshats do clever asshattery. Ban the dumbass asshats just out to make a shit-show. Someone running up and down the hallways killing everyone they can while not being an antag should be banned... Someone who rewires the oxygen delivery system to pump out plasma instead should be appreciated for at least making the round interesting.
Rewiring the oxygen delivery to pump out plasma is not "light antagging". If everyone was allowed to do that kind of shit that destroys the station I can assure you none of it would be interesting because when behavior like that is normalized the station just rapidly becomes unsalvageable and not worth saving and the shuttle gets called less than 30 minutes in before anything develops out of it

And yes, it does make the round interesting. Engineers didn't report someone mucking about with oxygen supply? Well, I guess they should be actually in Engineering instead of at the bar drinking, 'eh? Or, maybe it was the engineers doing it and someone should've reported them to Sec?
If that behavior is normalized... guess what? People actually roleplay their jobs and actually do their jobs on shift! They don't wander around looking for fun things to do! They'll actually report suspicious behavior to Sec, which gives Sec something to do other than harass everyone or provide guns to antags since Sec is never in Sec. If clever antag behavior is normalized outside of antag roles, then it means that players actually have to be active in their roles and doing their roles rather than finishing their jobs in 5 minutes and then wandering the halls or sitting at the bar or looking for job changes...
Also, why should a round of SS13 last more than 30 minutes? Is it fun to do your job and then nothing afterwards while you wait for something interesting to happen? I've played more than my fair share of rounds and the roleplay is so light, even in RP heavy servers that 30 minutes is MORE THAN ENOUGH time for a session to actually become interesting. Most sessions don't even become interesting in 30 minutes, either. Not unless you're playing on some of the far more lenient servers where crazy stuff can happen incredibly frequently.
If you need more than 30 minutes of roleplay, just get into a chatroom. SS13 is a game that should be fun. It shouldn't be the next version of "interactive chatroom". If all you want is "interactive chatroom", then you shouldn't be in SS13 anyway.
Welp, you should try Beestation on MRP, it's tg code anyway and you can do fun shit, the motto is "everyone should have fun". There is no light antag as civilian and it's good to let do your own thingy. If you ever tried, don't listen to the memes

Me and my friend had partook in le second amendment , my friend pumped up kicksed the station and got his brain implanted in a Borg, he didn't get bwoinked or anything for shooting up the station.
As a Borg, he changed the access to every dorm room so no one could get in or out.
He was swiftly banned after doing that.
