Dr. Prem Singh Basnyat is a retired General of the Nepalese Army and a Para Commando with a Ph.D. in Military History. He is presently working as Guest Professor at the Leshan Normal University, China; Visiting Professor at Kathmandu University; a Guest Lecturer at Tribhuban University; Visiting Fellow at Tromso University, Norway; Visiting professor at Kathmandu School of Law, Purbanchal University, and several Nepalese army’s and Police’s academic institutions as well. He has written 18 books and more than 70 articles on history, culture, heritage, international security, conflict management, national security, human rights, development, etc.

1. Rani Rajya Laxmi ko teti khera ko right hand General Abhiman Singh Rana Magar was the first to be murdered in the Kot Massacre. This all happened because of the infamous indecisive King Rajendra Bikram Shah didn't take action against the accused while they had the advantage prior to the coup. This left an opening where the Kunwars killed all their unarmed opposition (invited for a dialogue but the real intention was murder) including lots of old houses family names like Pandeys, Magars, Basnyats, etc. This was also the beginning of the decline of Magars in the royal court.
2. Lots of the courtiers that were murdered following the Kot Massacre were Basnyats. That's how Jung Bahadur solidified his power through treason and murders at a large scale.
3. Basnyats would have all the motives to attempt to kill Jung Bahadur, and that's all they had, themselves and motives but in contrast Lakhan Thapa Magar had a rebel army that didn't only have Magars, but all those who felt oppressed in the new Rana regime, that included Khas / Chhetri post Muluki Ain.
In conclusion, Shahid Lakhan Thapa Magars deserves this title among all the other reasons.
P.S. You cannot escape Karma, Jung Bahadur had his legitimate successors killed by their own.
