In 1976, you could not escape this song. It sat in your head for the entire year. It was positively catchy and infectious.
I was 9 at the time and fell in love w/it instantly
Remember it was actually used in the hilarious movie "Slap Shot" with Paul Newman?
She had TWO big hits in the USA. This one & "Lead Me On." One is fast, the other is slow. BOTH are bangers!!!
Ah, “Lead me on” was actually my favorite from Maxine Nightingale.
I was in the 6th grade when RBWWSF came out.
I love Lead me on
Fantastic memories
The writers of Lead Me On, were inspired by the song Emotions, which of course was written by the Bee Gees.
I remember this song well , I think she was on the Midnight Special show. Please also try “Knock On Wood’. By Ami Stewart . I think Jay will love the drum beats in that song .
❤❤❤
This is a groove! A huge hit and a big time disco tune. You cannot help but move to this tune.
After disco was dead? Girl, disco never dies 😉
Many disco artists felt pushed out of the USA…..moved to uk and europe where disco never died….it mingled with everything else….a good example would be Odyssey
But it was comatose by the dawn of the 90s
This song was prominently featured in the hilarious hockey movie, "Slap Shot," which needs to be on your movie reaction list.
The NY Islanders and fan base still play this song after each Islander win!
Old time hockey just like Eddie Shore
Dave's a killer! Dave's a mess.
Slap Shot was Newman's favourite movie and would make a great reaction.
"Puttin' on the foil!"
"Every game."
I love this song! I was just a little kid, 1975, and I remember my aunt playing the .45!
Disco isn't dead... it'll live in my heart forever !!!!
This is not disco though.
mine too.
I really don't know how everyone in the world has not heard this song--at least a hundred times. This is part of my DNA at this point. I never saw the cover art for this, but I love it.
This song was in the movie Slapshot with Pual Newman , and yes she has many more cool songs this one is in my play list on Amazon Still a great toon today :)
Who own da Chief? Owns, owns!
Slap Shot would make a good movie reaction
Slap Shot will always be the best Hockey movie ever made. This song always makes me think of the movie. Everyone should experience the Hanson-Brothers.
Putting on the foil!
What’s his name?😁
This was a huge, huge hit in ‘76. I have never heard this in mono. I think if you heard the stereo version you’d appreciate it more. It was sure disco!
This was never in mono. Even the 45 was stereo. I think it's mono on the Rob Squad video because the way they recorded it.
This was a SMASH hit in the 70's. Love this song !!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy crap! This takes me right back to my childhood!
Same here, total flashback!
Fun fact - in the 80's Maxine came to my City for a concert and I was her bodyguard for the day. She was very nice and pleasant 😊
Always a bright ray of sunshine whenever and wherever it played.
A MUST HEAR Classic featuring a SAXAPHONE MASTER,, Junior Walker & The All Stars "What Does It Take"
Maxine Nightingale is awesome, this is still one of my favorite songs! As for disco balls made it into the 90s and are still lurking around - Disco will never die!
I was maybe 13 when this song came out in 1976 and it was a big hit. It was a magical time for all genres of music, pop, rock, metal, punk, country, disco, R and B, funk, soul, gospel and Pavarotti.
The beat and sheer danceability made it a big favourite on the UK Northern Soul circuit (and it still is today). Great song.
You can’t hear this tune and not think of Slap Shot. I swear they played it in the movie like half a dozen times.
The NY Islanders and fan base still play this song after each Islander win!
I love this song. She has a ballad from 1979 called Lead Me On. I know that y’all will love it. Maybe one day you can play it.
Lead me on was a hit here in Brazil due to a soap, opera.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "Lead Me On" !!! Another top 5 hit, 3 years after todays song (1975/1978)
Fond memories from 75-78 The Slyvers and Switch.
This was such a vibe back in the day!
The Hues Corporation "Rock The Boat"
One of my favorite songs that was played at the roller skating rink when I was a kid.
Same here ❤️🛼❤️🛼❤️🛼❤️
And we had to go as fast as we could during this whole song, Lol 😂
Yes
One of those songs that was just a lot of fun back in the 70's.
One of the ultimate fun songs. Also one of the few pop songs that features a baritone saxophone not the more popular tenor and alto saxes! I recommended this to kids in school band who get assigned the baritone aax for encouragement! 👍
The joy of sax.
@@stevenkarner6872 Ah yes! I'm a saxophonist and I love it. Saxy was my nickname. To me, the saxophone is like the human voice. It can make you laugh, it can make you smile, cry, and it also sets a mood. The sax is versatile enough to fit in almost every musical genre. I'm blessed to be able to play by ear and this was one those songs since the Alto and Baritone saxes are basically identical except is size, mouthpieces, and tone. In HS when the Band Director chose this song and needed a volunteer to play this, I did. I knew the recorded version, but quickly adapted to her new arrangement. It was fun. I recommend Gerry Mulligan, Nick Brignola, Tom Scott (session work), Doc Kupka (Tower Of Power) Jim Horn (session work), and James Carter (he like Tom Scott) plays the 4 main saxophones, and Lars Gullin are the best examples on baritone sax. For swooning the ladies, I recommend "The Real Quietstorm" by James Carter. The baritone saxophone there will blow you away. Also his bass clarinet. Check it out.
This song had real spirit. I love her talent.
This song charted on Billboard's Hot 100 Charts on February 14, 1976 And It peaked at number 2 for two weeks
3 years and still can't get but one of these women on female Fridays! Where's Soul Train when you need it? Come on Amber and give these awesome soul singers some love at least once.... Check out Stephanie Mills hits "I Feel Good All Over" " Comfort Of A Man" and the duet with Teddy Pendergrass "Feel the Fire" Still waiting on you to do other awesome soul singers like Phyllis Hyman(Living All Alone) and the most powerful singer Jennifer Holliday(And I'm Telling You) Betty Wright "No Pain No Gain" Lisa Fisher "How Do I Ease the Pain" Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Angela Winbush "Angel" Evelyn Champaign King "Shame"

They played this song at the local roller rink every time my HS GF and I were there more than 40 years ago, so you guys were absolutely right about the time frame. I have a lot of really good memories of this song 🙂
I always loved this "disco" song because it's actually more of a pop tune than straight disco . It has that impossible to not like snap to it of a classic pop song from the days when the boom box ruled. 🙂
I swear, somedays I tune in just to see JAY'S reaction and his playfulness and moving around LOL Good work guys!
Loved this song growing up! Wish you could see Maxine's actual performance. Please do Ami Stewart's 'Knock on Wood'; Evelyn Champagne King 's 'Shame'; Vicky Sue Robinson's 'Turn the Beat Around'; Teena Marie's 'Behind the Grove' or 'I Need Your Lovin'. React to their performances if you can.
Fantastic suggestions!!! 🥰
One of my favorite Feel Good upbeat songs! Makes me smile! Yes, i went to many dance clubs in the 80s into the 90s and disco balls were everywhere! I lived in NY and disco never really died. There were always dance clubs playing disco and it was a blast!
I've always loved her singing on this song.
Most definitely 70’s and one of my favorite songs…this is a pick me up song!!!! Can’t but be happy listening to this song.
If you like this, you probably would enjoy Evelyn "Champaign" King's 1978 track "Shame" more. It has cool saxophone parts, and it's "danceable".
Yes, we had Disco balls in the 80's. I don't think they disappeared until the 90's came along...
I have suggested that several times.
@@blackblake3658~ I've suggested 'ECK's "Shame" before too...👍
"Shame" certainly got people out of their seat & into the 💃 dance🕺floor. ...so why should I feel ashamed...
@@MuzicTunes-lk6np ~ 😁👍🎶🎷
Also the theme song to the greatest sports movie ever made "SlapShot"
🙏❤️🇨🇦😎
HEY guys this was a big hit for Maxine this song just missed being number one stayed at number 2 for two weeks in early 1976. Amber here are other songs from that year Gwen McRae Rocking Chair Dorothy Moore Misty Blue Melissa Manchester Midnight Blue Yvonne Elliman remake of Hello Stranger these are all very good songs hope you consider reacting to them. keep up the great work guys.
Great suggestions 💖👍
This classic hits different,, but in the best of ways,, Reunion "Life Is A Rock" (But The Radio Rolled Me)
absolute banger- one of my all time favorites from the disco era
This is what I noticed about the men who react this song. They are not much into just listening to it. But put on the video with her singing, they are in Love with the song. Or is it looking at her. When I saw that it was audio only, I knew it wouldn't ne Jay's cup of tea.🤣🤣🤣
I've got a cd collection that my dad started years ago and I inherited...and it's EVERYTHING from the 60's to the 80's...and I was just listening to this song yesterday....LOVE THIS SONG!! This collection is SO extensive that I can literally think of a song....and it's there. Although...with the internet...we don't need the cds anymore...LOL!! I can't wait to go thru all the vinyl albums that he had collected back in those years....he kept them ALL......there is no telling what some are worth...Elvis, Chuck Berry...Jerry Lee Lewis.....up to the Eagles, Fogat, Aerosmith..REO Speedwagon...the list goes on and on.
Cool 😎 💕💕💕
Another song that's on my phone that I turn up when it plays. Maxine in the 70's was (and is) a very attractive lady with a lot of energy when she performed. Just a catchy tune that makes you want to move along with the music. Her voice is perfect match with the lyrics and the music. Glad to see you two react to it.
Great song by Maxine Nightingale 1975.
this track is all about the handclaps!! - genius!
This song was so much fun to dance to. I'm so glad you reacted to it! 🎶🎶🎶😁👍🎶🎶🎶
The Stylistics "Heavy Fallin' Out"...Nuff Said.
This song is an instant mood booster and reminds me how lucky I was to grow up when this great music was new.
This song is from the Spring of 1976. I remember singing this on the bus on our 8th Grade field trip. This was out around the same time as "Boogie Fever" by the Sylvers.
Had this in a single 45. 1975 I was 9 and played it everyday. Miss 70's dance music.
Also Vicky Sue Robinson ...turn tbe beat around. Another good one!
This song is in my top 5 songs from all times. If I'm not mistaken, this aong cane out in 1973 and was featured in the movie "Slapshot"
Such a happy sound that spring / summer. Hearing it tonight takes me right back :-).
That song was made famous by the 1977 movie Slap Shot starring Paul Newman.
I have never considered this song disco, but it's a catchy pop tune. Maxine Nightingale had some really good songs. She deserved to have more hits.
"After Disco was dead?" Bite your tongue, missy! Disco will never die! 😁
Man this is such a great (and super catchy) song. It will be running through your head non-stop for a while. Also prominently featured in the movie SLAP SHOT (Paul Newman) which you guys really need to react to. Hockey film ... I'll leave it at that 🤪
Slap Shot is one of my favourites. It's just too good. 👍 I used to play soccer like the Hanson brothers played hockey. Needless to say I never lasted that long. 🤠
The NY Islanders and fan base still play this song after each Islander win!
The Hansen Bros!
@@paul5589 That's about the only way to make soccer worth watching ;)
I came to see if anyone else thinks of "Slap Shot" when you hear this song.
I am 59 Years old. I danced to this Song Many Times at School Dances and at Parties. This song was played at the Skateing Rink as well. I skated to this song as well. This Song was from the 70's. Disco Balls were everywhere!
..."Class of 76"...Both a Radio and Dance MAJOR HIT!
When I first heard this record on the radio, I thought that this was an obscure early-1960s girl group Rock song produced by Phil Spector. It is a great song by Maxine Nightingale.
This song has an infectious, piano-driven, mid-70s vibe that reminds me of Captain and Tenille.
Guys, I danced to this song every weekend back in the 70's. It was GREAT!
Love this song!
The SOS Band - Just be good to me / Take your time
This one BLASTED out of the box in the Spring of '76 and went all the way to #2. We were all sure this was a million seller.
‘Kin love this tune! Every time I hear it……I think of “Slap Shot”!😬✌🏻🏴
Sir James Paul McCartney (Old Siam, Sir) I think you both will get a kick out of this song (1993) It was a hit for Paul McCartney and his band.
Amber, You look and act just like my grandaughter.
I just love ya'll show, Keep kicking the songs out, We all love it
This is such a catchy tune that it was everywhere in 1976 and beyond! She has a great voice but I think the song was a bit overproduced but that was the seventies! 😂 ❤❤
I wore out my younger sister's 45 rpm record of this song by Maxine Nightingale when it firs comes out. The Baritone Saxophone is a bit reminiscent of early Supremes hits. This was released in 1973.
Oh, the memories this song brings to mind!
Check out Yvonne elleman "if i can't have you" and the Supremes "stoned love" (original version) for female fridays. Another good choice is a band called Smith "baby it's you". Female vocalist is amazing.
All right my babies.... This artist is most definitely one of the "Sisters of Soul"‼️Lead Me On, is another one of her wonderful tracks you should check out ‼️💯🔥😎👍🏼 P.S. I think after the mirror ball and lights came lasers and explosions‼️🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I remember this one being all over the radio when it was a hit - roughly around late 1975, early '76. It's not a disco song per se, but it was a product of the disco era and had some of the same production features heard on early disco records, such as strings, horns and prominent percussion. I imagine that it was produced to fit in with the disco pop sounds of the time in order to get airplay - and obviously it worked.
I remember skating to this song, I was 12 yrs old. I was 16 in 1979. Probably the best years of my life.
This was a fun and easy song to dance to! Yes, it was the great 70's and the great Disco era!
Esta cancion fue en 1975 , posicion #2 en US Billboard Charts . Lo sorprendente es que participaron 2 ex Electric Light Orchestra , en guitar bass Michael de Alburquerque y en Violin Wilf Gibson.
Saludos y buena reaccion.
From Santiago Chile 🇨🇱
Along with ABBA's "Dancing Queen", this tune was always played by late-night talk show host Art Bell on his radio program. It was one of his standard choices for bumper music!
This song is best remebered from the funny ice hockey themed movie "Slapshot", which You should definitely include in Your movie reactions. For some 70's disco favorites, check out Amii Stewart: Knock on Wood and Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive. For the more light hearted "euro-disco", check out Tina Charles: I Love to Love and Baccara: Yes Sir, I Can Boogie. These are all also good for female friday :)
Love this one!! 🙌
Summer of 1976. This song bounces like an over-inflated beach ball. So much fun!
The Dramatics "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get"
70's golden divas also "I will survive" Gloria Gayner. "Lady Marmalade" Labelle featuring Patty Labelle. "Half Breed" Cher (video). "Whenever I call you friend" Stevie Nicks & Kenny Loggins.
Strobe lights and disco balls......parties on the weekends. Was a fun time. The music was upbeat and jammin' and we knew all the dance moves.
Music like this I great for dancing around the house while cleaning or exercising or with the kids. It's happy music.
I’ll always remember this song as one of the ones that used to be played over the loudspeaker at my sleepaway camp to wake campers up to start the day…back in the 70’s 😅
Many people don’t realize she was British. This is the demo they recorded for £100. Maxine wanted £45 as a one time fee, but others convinced her to take royalties. The original song was actually “Goodbye, Nothing to Say” recorded by the Javells featuring Nosmo King. czcams.com/video/hGqzZRghpTU/video.htmlsi=mklRRjSkhhhkFG-X. It was big in clubs that played Northern Soul music that were played in bars and clubs up in Birmingham etc. So it’s basically a copy of that song.
I was 14 when this came out and 50 tears later i can still see myself roller skating to this song many times.
She had a couple of huge hits this brings back memories
This song has a very strong 1960s Motown vibe.
A little Phil Spector wall of sound influence too.
Motown meets disco with a touch of wall of sound.
This is the theme song to the 1977 sports movie classic, "Slap Shot". It is played throughout the movie, and is played over the closing credits. More hockey players know this song than perhaps anyone else.
Mirrored "disco balls" weren't around so much during the eighties. The dry-ice smoke and flashing lights were still around, plus new effects like a lot of eerie green lights and giant descending video screens, but not so much the mirrored balls. Those mirrored balls were actually first introduced in the 1920s in the Big Band era and remained popular into the 1940s. Back then, they were called mirror balls or glitter balls. They were revived in the seventies with the disco era. The word "boogie" to mean dance was another thirties-forties thing that was revived in the seventies. About the only thirties-forties-revival things you saw in the eighties were big shoulder pads and sort of 1940s-looking men's hairstyles.
On a different subject-David Bowie "Sound and Vision."
His most popular song in 1977 was "Heroes", but this came out the same year. It's so totally different, you won't believe it. He was a master at evolution.
Famous for being in the great hockey comedy Slap Slot with Paul Newman. The Toronto Maple Leafs used to use this after every goal they scored. Unfortunately they switched it up for 2023-24 season. I'm a Leafs fan and a Slap Shot fan so i will miss it. Great song.
The Chiefs!
My sisters and I use to dance in the kitchen to this record back in the day! 💃🏻🪩💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
My grade-school friends and I spent many Saturdays roller skating to this 🛼🛼🛼🛼. Great memories ❤️❤️❤️
Jay /Amber antherone is by a guy named MECO the song Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk is a disco and jazz fusion album that consists of two medleys; "Star Wars" consists of nine sections and recreates sounds from the movie and "Other Galactic Funk" is made up of three sections.
Its great
This song was so fun to roller skate to back in the day! You would stomp on the Get Right Back parts! Lol
This song was in the 1977 hockey movie Slap Shot with Paul Newman. I loved this movie. This song played a major role in the movie. I bet you would like the song more if you watched the movie, which you should.
Maxine Nightingale is pure class. This is a, stone, disco classic!
-But this reminds me (makes me want to ask -also, since: J likes the "big show-off" style songs and vocalists quite a bit more! 😝😜- ): have you guys hit
The Emotions, yet??
"Best Of My Love" is one of the biggest '70s club bangers, EVER! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you have not, yet; you need to get to it
IMMEDIATELY! 🤘🤘 ⚡

This is a great song, remember it well, love it! ♥️♥️
They called them disco’s because they played records which is a disc that you danced to.
