Totally agree about firing Marty. If folks recall, a coach named Joe Gibbs also started 0-5, but finished at 8-8. Gibbs kept his job and led the Skins to their greatest era in team history.
He did pretty good in San Diego too following his brief stint in D.C. His criticism was from not reaching the Super Bowl, yet the Redskins choked on that one before they had a chance to get as elevated as he got the Chargers to.... Spurrier was a disaster (I don't know whether to feel more sorry for that coach or ownership but I'm going to go with the former on that one)

Snyder was so toxic to everyone that no one of substance wanted to play for his team. With a new owner, I hope that will change. Maybe we can get a top notch GM and top free agents will sign.
Marty Shottenheimer's contract gave him complete control of the team. Snyder had to fire Marty to gain control again.

I would have to agree he changed the name in an effort to save his own skin. He was in the hot seat for his personal behavior, so he used it to try and save his tail.

I'm not confident they'll get the Redskins name back. When DS caved he lost all leverage to keep it. The Redskins name, image and rights was the leverage to continue that name/brand.
DS wasn't a strong leader and had no moral compass. A real leader and strong man with a backbone would've stood their ground and let any sponsor kick rocks. There are only 32 teams and just about any swinging dik would do anything to get their sponsorship plastered all over an NFL stadium. The sponsorship excuse is just another BS story. DS could've kept the name but he wasn't a real man/leader.
If I couldn't get the name back at this point, I would call their bluff and use the "Chiefs" name the "Redskins" logo on the helmet and see how they handle that. The Chiefs of the NFC, burgundy and gold.
