Mark needs the mask to speak while under water. Viltrumites can't breathe water, but they can hold their breath for weeks. If he didn't have the mask, water would fill his lungs as he spoke.

Random fat about a different hero hulk actually found a way around that basically he would let his lungs get filled with water to trap the air inside them and allows him to breath and speak underwater down side is man had to violently throw ip said water

Mark's little giggle at 0:38 when he goes to faux wrestle with the lure is so sweet. Like it's awkward but he sounds genuinely happy if only for a moment. This poor boy deserves a century of time off

For humans it's cuteness, for depth-dwellers it fakes an easy prey.
The cuteness is really meant to represent defensivelessness.
Humans can only hear specific sound frequencies, and hearing more than necessary is not evolutionary advantageous. Super humans/ Viltrumites are enhanced in all aspects, including hearing, which ironically is a trade-off fault.

@@DromusTH It's actually not that much stronger, but the TV show makes them more like Superman. The issue though is their inner ear is designed to help right them for flight, if you hit it with vibrations it basically causes extreme virtigo.
Yeah I noticed when Cecil tried to help Mark in his fight against Omni Man that while the missiles of course did not damage, the flash of the missiles didn't actually cause Nolan to pause and shield his eyes, and he gave no sign of being able to see through the smoke. So it begs the question, what if you ignored the concussive power of a missile and designed a weapon to just be a giant flashbang? You might be able to blind a Viltrimite for 30 seconds to a minute.
You don't need to be able to hear a frequency for it to be damaging. A loud enough frequency to outside of what we can hear can still rupture our ear drums.
Theoretically a loud enough sound of any frequency can completely vaporize our flesh.
I hope Cecil lets Mark know that he's researching a Viltrumites weakness in case his dad comes with an army. I'm sure Mark would understand and even want to help, and Cecil wouldn't want to actually harm Mark. But I have a bad feeling that if he keeps this under wraps too and Mark finds out, Mark won't trust him, and think Cecil is making it for him.
Of course he is, Cecil keeps more secrets than Nick Fury and Batman combined.
On the surface he trusts Mark and knows he wants help, but underneath it all deep down he believes Mark could be another Omen-man if he's not careful.
At this point, he kinda is making it for him too. Still testing the waters on whether Mark is willing to turn on the Earth.
Cecil was really going to pimp mark out to a fish
knowing what Cecil is like and what he is capable of doing to avoid a future catastrophe...this is not so out of place and it is not the craziest thing he has ever done either.
Now I just can't help but wonder how long it will take for the internet to start appearing nsfw content or +18 fanfics of Queen Aquaria and Mark (and even more so coming from a certain rule of the internet that tends to make this type of material)

Why does Mark need a mask under water but not in space?
It's not that Viltrumites can breathe in space, is that they can hold their breath for a very long time.
A breathing mask just makes it easier for Mark to deal with being underwater for extended periods of time.
Viltrumites have a particular trait in their biology to make so they can go a long time in space, but not underwater

Viltrumites can hold their breaths for a very long time, specially when trained to do so (not Mark's case) and he did use a mask when he went to space, on that mars mission, he didn't use it when meeting Allen and when stopping the meteor because it wasn't needed since it'd be quick

I got a sense of that too there were so many set ups for many different potential future arch’s which I understand is the point but it felt like so much was getting added and a lot of beginnings were crammed in to this episode.

Correct, likely to appeal to a human that might find said lingerie attractive, which would've made sense given that Atlantis pretty much understands humans enough to coexist with them on the same planet.
I personally didn't like the retcon in the episode. It made the atlantians look like hypocritical liars

I’m the comics it’s reveled that Viltrumites’ weakness is high pitch sounds. Even Robot created a suit to defeat a hand full of them with sound.

Good to know somebody noticed that I saw that comic too and this episode wasn’t like the comic to me it feels like that kind of like manga/anime stuff where in the manga story it shows a lot of action and stuff and even some uncensored pics and we don’t see any of that stuff in the anime show of the manga because I kind of notice having those kinds of pics turn into scenes might be too much for the show like it would’ve been too much for invincible knowing when he was going through in the show and they had to change a few things to make it a bit short so we can see ahead of what we can expect
in the comics it was pointless unlike in the show where it's used to reveal the viltrumites weakness instead of cecil randomly finding out

I prepared the omniman was shock along with mark asking how Armstrong escape got pulled and even all this years he said that knewnto him. Kinda lame he acts like someone who escapes like that as nothing compare to the comics
I think they took an otherwise gag moment in the comics and made it connect to the overall theme of the story. It was great.

I imagine you dislike it for one of three reasons.
Reason 1 the writing: Now I personally still like this writing but I can definitely understand if you dislike it.
Reason 2 woke media: You probably noticed the little bit of woke detail's and dislike it, as I do to. Making it where Kate doesn't cheat on Rex was an obviously decision to make it where the woman isn't villainised. Then there's the fact that they got rid of a whole arc and used it instead to show how much of a lady boss she is. But that one has me 50/50 due the fact it actually got rid of an arc I didn't really like.
Reason three the action: You're probably disappointed with the less cool fight scenes.

Not every trope is bad, there's a reason some story beats are used often. Appearances being deceiving is a huge theme in the show anyway
