- A montage of the work that will happen on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass this summer, showing you what happens behind the scenes during closures Monday through Thursday an hour before sunset. These closures are planned for an hour, but could take longer due to the nature of the blast and the amount of debris that comes down.
Oh - thanks for posting this great video by the way. It's really helpful to see what's really going on.
Honestly I was curious
I love how there are all these self-proclaimed explosive experts judging this video.
I love how there is a self-proclaimed expert expert 10 year old judging the "self-proclaimed explosive experts" who actually talk sense.
Btw I’m pretty sure this type of work is called surface blasting
I'm pretty sure whoever laid out the the blast pattern and was in charge of the shot should have been embarrassed that it was even put on CZcams you have huge Boulders lying there's rocks flying everywhere. My dad was Ray Simmons and I grew up in quarries and Road construction since I was a toddler
This is stress relieving
They should sell seat's, I'd pay to see that up close, awesome!
Never hire an explosive's expert who's nickname is "Oops!".
You are not going to use anfo to blast singular rocks. You need something that fractures better, high velocity like dynamite, etc. The charges they used are for pushing the rock, and material so it can be removed.
Good god, it’s so wonderful that you knew so much more than the blasters!
Well done video. Thank you
Haha, love that effect at 1:51
This is wild. Great footage
Wish we would have checked the web site before going over the pass. It was closed for about 2 hours last Wed night. Stopped in Roslyn and had a beer at "The Brick". Great place to check out the oldest running tavern in the State.
Watching this...while listening to metal >
I love it, old pavement that can be removed normally? Nah just blow it up!
The old roadway was built on top of rock. In order to start building the new roadway, we had to blast the rock to get down several more feet. The blast not only broke up the rock, but the concrete as well.
Owned
The detonation cord sounds like a gau-8 or a tesla coil
More like a fart.
Nice blast...nice controll
ANFO + hard-rock = flying rocks.
ANFO lifts, doesn't have a lot of shattering power.
Dynamite shatters hard rock, has modest lift. Shower of gravel.
RDX/PETN shatters everything, but not much lift. Shower of dust.
Then again, if all you have is ANFO...
Greg Gallacci
I do believe it was a budget issue.
.....at least that's what I was led to believe
Dynamite hasn't been used for almost 100 years due to it's instability
You yankeees and your stupid acronyms... Nobody is understanding you!
great video :)
‘Did somebody say boom??’
Everytime they would blast, I would get a call from senile old Mrs Vickers. No Mrs. Vickers, those arn't Yankee canons comming down the road, we're still holding on to Richmond.
wow fire in the Hole Looks fun! I did some fireworks Myself this 4th but not as cool as that!
What's up with the bordering width of the letter S? from 1:30 on it becomes pretty apparent.
I'm a mining engineer (or soon to be really XD) and this video is the perfect example of what not to do in a blasting
This isn’t mining blasting, dumbass.
I don't think there should have been a huge boulders they should have been pulverized smaller. And then one shot you had rocks flying everywhere
We need you here. Colorado DOT is an utter failure.
เริ่มเปิดหน้าดินเขาไม้ไผ่
My favorite part is when they blow up the big boulders "so they can truck them out".
How it actually went:
Earl: "Well Fred, we've got 20 pounds of anfo left over. Blow up random rocks?"
Fred: "BLOW UP ALL THE ROCKS!"
Crazy how they let the shot walk past the site.

The titles over the explosions are distracting. Spoils the fun.
lol looks like someone is firing a mini gun at the ground in a movie and those are the squibs going off.
ขุดไปเจอถนน
ต้องใช้ระเบิด
The video is very interested thank you, but I leak to no the material anyone with information let me no

bad bad
Wow some of the most poor blasting I've ever seen!
and then the Next thing ya know there is a under ground yellowjackets nest with 30,000 Mad Bees what are you going to do if that Happens Blow em up try runing away first Just Kidding folks there is No YellowJackets to speak of I was Just saying what ifs! thats all!
so many rifles and poorly judged loads. you make our trade look bad.
So many people who know what they're talking about. I have no idea what I'm looking at!
1:13 : fart.
This would have been sweet, if you had not put that gay white text on the video!
Terrible blasting. Way too much flyrock. The rocks from the 1:50 mark on all could have easily been handled by a 800 komatsu. No need to re-shoot them. I think they just wanted some good video. Also to have a road closed for an hr after the shot is a downright embarrassment. We have shots twice the size of those and only have the roads closed for under 10 minutes. 10 minutes is usually a longer closure than normal.
a li yea but that's probly using mats no?
Nope no mats
a li company I work for no one has any ballz anymore shame we over mat
When you have tons of material to remove from the road due to blasting the cliff above the road, it can take a while to simply remove the material.
And while a larger excavator might have been able to move the bigger rocks, they have to be loaded on normal size highway dump trucks for ten, so they need to be broken down.
And they aren't going to spend thousands of dollars on additional blasting just for a video lol
Very bad work. Nearly every blast is overloaded mutch too mutch.
ow hello professional
Yeah there were quite a lot of material thrown over some distance; and the shot rock debris was huge. I wonder if the budget called for an existing road replacement as well.
in the enlargement of busy roads the priority goes to:safety at work, safety of things, speed. To speed up, organize excavations with the machines on site. The overloads are used to reduce the size of the material knocked down to use road machinery and not quarry machinery. Road builders are not pharmacists
I can do better than that,
